APHERESIS--- involves removal of whole blood from a donor. Within an instrument that is essentially designed as a centrifuge, the components of whole blood are separated. One of the separated portions is then withdrawn, and the remaining components are retransfused into the donor. ALLOGENIC DONATION--- blood donated with unknown receiver AUTOLOGOUS DONATION--- blood donated for self use (SAFEST) DIRECTED DONATION--- with specific receiver Diphenhydramine HCl--- is an antihistamine. Its use prior to a blood transfusion decreases the likelihood of a transfusion reaction. Hepatitis B--- is the most common infection spread via blood transfusion.
