THEOLOGY 4 credits NINTH GRADE Sacred Scripture Honors An introduction to the Old and New Testaments and the Churchs teaching on Divine Revelation. Douay-Rheims version. Papal encyclicals include Providentissimus Deus. Main text: Introduction to the Bible, Laux. Ancient/Medieval Literature Honors Classic literature from 2000 B.C. through A.D. 1300. Catholic perspective. Fundamentals of literary analysis. Includes vocabulary and composition. Bible, Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer, Plato, Herodotus, Thucydides, Virgil, Augustine, St. Benedict, etc. Ancient/Medieval History Honors Survey through A.D. 1300 with the Incarnation as the focal point. TENTH GRADE Catholic Doctrine Honors Unambiguous, comprehensive and persuasive exposition of the deposit of Faith. Parts one and two of the Catechism (Creed and sacraments). Advanced Continental Literature Critical reading, analysis, examination and interpretation of diverse literary genres from A.D. 1300 to the present. Catholic perspective. Vocabulary and composition. TWELFTH GRADE Apologetics Honors A solid defense of the Catholic religion. Its aim is to prove from reason the divine authority of the Church. Advanced British Literature (AP English Literature) A literature and writing course focusing on the diverse genres of British literature throughout the ages. Catholic perspective. Pearl, Beowulf, Chaucer, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Dickens, Orwell, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, etc. Prep AP English Literature and Composition exam. Advanced U.S. Government Politics & Economics (AP U.S. Government & Politics) Survey of the foundations of republican government, intentions of our founding fathers and the principles of a free economy. Catholic Culture: Each day students in grades K-12 recite morning prayers (including consecrations to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary), the Angelus and the Blessing before Meals and Grace after Meals at noon, and at the end of the day students kneel and recite five decades of the Rosary in English on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday the Rosary is recited in Latin, and on Thursday the Divine Mercy Chaplet is recited. On First Friday students assist at the extraordinary form of the Mass and benediction; confession is also available. HS students are required to complete twelve hours of Eucharistic Adoration and ten hours of active service. Each year, minor changes are made in the curriculum to improve our program and to better serve our students. The Academy reserves the right to change, alter or amend the curriculum whenever such changes are deemed necessary. Revised 5/07/12
