About Orthodox Church in Manila

The Annunciation of the Theotokos Orthodox Church is a parish of the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and All Southeast Asia under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Our church was consecrated by His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on March 05, 2000. Three beautiful Byzantine churches have been built with the generous support of Eastern Orthodox faithful from Greece, Australia, the United States and other countries. These churches has become the major centers of canonical Orthodoxy in the Philippines. Six Filipino priests and 2 Filipina monastic nuns under the spiritual jurisdiction of Metropolitan Nectarios, the Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Hong Kong, minister to the faithful in parishes and Orthodox mission stations in the Philippines. It is currently the only canonical Orthodox jurisdiction in the Philippines. Orthodoxy arrived in the Philippines through Greek nationals who came to the Philippines on business ventures prior to World War II. But the local clergy and the bulk of the present day believers came to Orthodoxy independently in 1992 and in 1994. Since that time, and now under the nurturing leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Nectarios of the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and South East Asia (OMHKSEA), the Orthodox Church in the Philippines has grown into a vibrant, growing community. Please feel free to visit the Annunciation Orthodox Cathedral on any given Sunday where you will find a welcoming Church family and Divine services that are filled with rich Eastern Christian spirituality and ancient Orthodox Christian tradition.
