Lauren is heavily involved with industry associations for construction and engineering. These associations allow Lauren to to stay in tune with industry best practices and establish meaningful peer relationships with key owners and vendors through events and committees.

Lauren is an active member of the following associations: CII Construction Industry Institute CII is a consortium of leading owners, engineering and construction contractors, and suppliers who have a singular mission: to improve the cost effectiveness of the capital facility project life cycle, from pre-project planning through completion and commissioning. By collaborating on important industry issues and by providing guidance on best practices discovered through research, the CII members are collectively an industry forum for the engineer-procure-construct process. Lauren is proud to be a member of the Construction Industry Institute and serves as an active participant on several of the best-practice research panels. NCCER National Center for Construction Excellence NCCER is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) education foundation created in 1996 to develop standardized construction, maintenance, and pipeline curricula with portable credentials and help address the critical skilled workforce shortage. NCCERs training process of accreditation, instructor certification, standardized curriculum, national registry, assessment, and certification is a key component in the industrys workforce development efforts. NCCER also drives multiple initiatives to enhance career development and recruitment efforts for the industry. Lauren is one of a limited number of contractors in the US that has qualified as an accredited training sponsor with NCCER. ABC Associated Builders and Contractors Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association with 75 chapters representing 23,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms with nearly two million employees. ABCs membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry. Lauren is an active participant in ABC events and maintains a presence on the ABC Health and Safety Committee. Lauren has also received ABC merit awards for outstanding projects in the industrial sector. CURT Construction Users Round Table The Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) was founded in the fall of 2000 by construction and engineering executives representing major corporations all across the United States and the world. Continuing the 30-year effort of the Construction Committee of the Business Roundtable, CURT provides a national and international forum for the exchange of information, views, practices and policies of construction users from an array of industries. Power
Lauren and its acquired companies have been providing services to the electric power industry for six decades. This began with design engineering services only in the 1950s and now includes full capability engineering, procurement and construction services. Laurens background includes design-build services for many power projects, including numerous generation, transmission, and substation projects. Generation projects have included gas/oil fired steam electric stations, combustion turbine facilities in both simple and combined cycle, and coal and lignite fired plants. These have included projects at green field sites, add-on units, repower projects and renovation and betterment projects. Lauren maintains a wealth of engineering and construction experience related to numerous combustion turbine installations, simple and combined cycle. These projects have utilized GE LM6000, 7EA, 7FA and Siemens Westinghouse V84.2, V84.3, V84.3A, 501D, and 501F engines. Transmission projects have included voltages up to 230 kV and substation projects have included voltages up to 345 kV. Lauren has built a reputation for designing and constructing high value, efficient power plants. Our projects have been among the leaders in $ per kW and several projects have been named Pacemaker Projects by Power Magazine.

Alternative Energy
Lauren is a leading EPC contractor serving the alternative energy sector. Lauren served as the EPC contractor for FPLs Martin Solar Power Project, a 75 MW Hybrid Solar Plant located in Indiantown, FL. The Martin Solar Power Plant is the second largest solar power plant in the world. Lauren also served as the EPC contractor for the 64 MW Nevada Solar One parabolic trough solar thermal power generating facility near Boulder City, Nevada. At completion in 2007, Nevada Solar One was the largest solar thermal project to be built in over 17 years and the third largest in the world. Lauren is also active in biodiesel process design, freshwater recovery from brine, and oil sand process plant construction. Laurens experience encompasses project conceptual design studies during the early project development phase through turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction. Lauren is also well experienced in plant commissioning and start-up. Lauren routinely self-performs all aspects of project execution with a dedicated engineering group, experienced site supervision and a large direct-hire construction craft base. 75 MW Hybrid Solar Power Generating Facility Alternative Energy, Indiantown, Florida
Lauren was selected as the EPC contractor to build a 75 MW power generating facility in Indiantown, FL - the largest-capacity solar thermal plant to be built in the last two decades and the second largest in the world. The project was located on 500 acres of land adjacent to FPLs Martin Plant. Using Parabolic Trough Technology to capture heat from the sun, this project includes approximately 190,000 parabolic mirrors, generating 155,000 MWh of power annually enough power for 11,000 homes or 26,000 people. The second largest solar thermal powerplant in the world The largest solar thermal plant outside of California The first hybrid solar facility in the world to connect to an existing combined-cycle power plant

Bosque Power Plant Project


Bosque Power Company, LLC Combined Cycle Power Plant, Laguna Park, Texas
Bosque Power Company, LLC. awarded Lauren a contract for the expansion of the Bosque County Generating Plant. The Bosque Expansion Project involved the conversion of two existing simple-cycle combustion turbine units into a (2x1) combined cycle configuration. The conversion increased the nominal output of the Bosque Plant from 546 MW to 770MW. Laurens scope also included an SCR installation which included installation of the catalyst bed, catalyst and ammonia injections system. The ammonia injection system involved off-loading and storage facilities, ammonia transfer pumps and piping, ammonia vaporization pumps and piping and the control systems.

Godawari Green Energy

50 MW Solar Power Generating Facility Alternative Energy, Gujarat, India


The Godawari (guhd-awe-ree) Solar Project, located in the Indian state of Rajasthan, about 50 km from the Pakistan border, is an EPC contract with Godawari Green Energy Ltd and includes the design, procurement and construction of a 50 MW Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) facility. The Godawari Solar Project utilizes 12m Euro Trough frames with over 161,000 mirrors, combining for a total of 120 loops, which will circulate 1,100 metric tons of HTF fluid. The project is located on 400 acres of land and will provide 130 GWh of power to the national grid annually. The Godawari Solar Project is one of six projects in Phase 1 of the National Solar Mission.

Solargenix Energy, 64 MW Solar Power Generating Facility Project Alternative Energy, Boulder City, Nevada
Lauren was selected as the EPC contractor to build Nevada Solar One (NSO) - a 64 MW power generating facility in Boulder City, Nevada the largest-capacity solar thermal plant to be built in the last 17 years and the third-largest in the world. The project uses the latest in concentrating solar technology. The plant consists of a Power Block area and a 400-acre field of mirror arrays that focus the heat of the desert sun into a heat transfer fluid system. Lime Slaker Retrofit Project

The scope of this project involved the installation of a lime slaking system (slaker-in-acan) that converts pebble lime to lime slurry to be injected into an existing flue gas desulfurization system. The main component of the system is a field erected steel vessel 22 diameter by 100 tall with a solids storage silo, two equipment operating levels, and a slaking tank on the bottom. Lauren installed the vessel, all mechanical equipment, auger cast piles and pile cap, foundations, extended existing pump building. Laurens scope included associated balance of plant piping and electrical systems and instrumentation.

Cogeneration Facility Project


CNRL Cogeneration Facility Project, Fort McMurray, AB, Canada
Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) contracted Lauren to perform Construction Management services to assist with the installation of a new Co-Generation plant in Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Canada. Scope of Laurens work included managing the construction execution plan up to the pre-commissioning activities for all Co-Gen plant facilities, including water treatment, steam and power generation block, natural/fuel gas system, transmission and main substation, and satellite operations center. This project represents a small portion of the CNRL Horizon Oil Sands Project. The entire CNRL project (valued at $7.5 Billion) is focused on developing the available bitumen reserves that are recognized in the oil sands by installing facilities to mine the oil sands, extract the bitumen, and upgrade the bitumen to generate synthetic crude oil to be sold as a product.

Lauren was the General Contractor for the installation of a 550 MW combined cycle power plant. Project consisted of 2 GE 7FA combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, one 200 MW steam turbine, one 8 cell cooling tower, water treatment facility, one 2 million gallon demineralized water storage tank, one 2.25 million gallon fuel oil storage tank, fuel unloading facility, 3 GSU transformers, all underground ductbanks and utilities, 96 circulating water system, piping river water intake pump system, and final site work/roads. The project was located in an existing coal fired power plant facility. Project was a ground up installation through startup and commissioning.

San Miguel Electric Cooperative Lignite-Fired Power Plant Project, San Miguel, Texas
Lauren was responsible for all design and procurement of this green field, single-unit lignitefired power plant for the San Miguel Electric Cooperative. The plant burns Texas lignite and is located at the mine mouth. The plant has a generating capacity of 450 MW. The back end environmental control equipment includes an electrostatic precipitator, SO2 scrubber and flue gas desulfurization waste treatment system. The plant is designed for zero discharge and is recognized for its low $ cost per KW and high availability.

Lauren was responsible for the design and construction of a new 161/230 kV substation and transmission lines for an 834MW merchant power plant, located in Mississippi. Scope of work included design and installation of eight 161 kV overhead lines for connections to plant GSU and Auxiliary Transformers, two 161 kV transmission lines to interconnect with a TVA substation, and one 230 kV transmission line to interconnect with an Entergy substation. Design and installation of the substation included (13) 161 kV Circuit Breakers, (18) 161 kV disconnect switches, four 240/320/400 MVA 161-230 kV auto-transformers, rigid bus systems (rated 161kV and 230 kV), control building, AC and DC auxiliary power systems, protective relay panels for substation and transmission line protection, and a SCADA RTU system.

Northeastern Power Station Repower Project

Lauren was responsible for the EPC work for the Northeastern Unit 1 repower project. The project included the installation of two GE 7FA combustion turbines and Nooter/ Eriksen supplemental fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) to repower an existing 175 MW Westinghouse steam turbine. This repowered plant produces a combined output of approximately 500 MW. Design responsibilities included all support facilities for the new combustion turbines and HRSGs as well as design of piping systems to interface with the existing steam turbine cycle piping. Laurens responsibilities also included overall management of the design and construction work as the EPC contractor.

This project involved installation of a cogeneration unit at Sid Richardson Carbon Companys Big Spring Carbon Black Plant, located in Big Spring, TX. The waste heat boiler utilizing flue gas from the incinerator was used to provide steam to the 24 MW turbinegenerator. The work included design of civil, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation systems.

Polymer Solid Stating Plant Project

Lauren was responsible for the design and construction of this Polymer Solid Stating Plant in Columbia, South Carolina. The design was prepared concurrent with construction to support the aggressive schedule for project completion. A new four-level steel-frame process building [19,000 sq. ft.] was constructed to house the new process systems. The process equipment scope included the installation of large heaters, reactors, and storage bins in addition to numerous pumps, blowers and cyclones. The product piping systems were large diameter [18 to 60] low pressure systems made from stainless steel material. All lighting, branch circuits and control wiring systems utilized the extensive cable tray and steel conduit systems. The project was commissioned for operation thirteen months after the start of detailed design.

Lauren was awarded a Lump Sum contract to build a new ROSE Unit located at the Navajo Refinery in Artesia, New Mexico. International Alliance Group Selexol & CO2 Frac Plant, Fort Stockton, Texas
Lauren has executed four contracts for the fabrication of modular pipe rack assemblies and process skids for the Selexol & CO2 Fractionation Plant in Fort Stockton, Texas. As part of this work, Lauren built and assembled 24 pipe rack modules (900 in total length), with over 17,000 linear feet of pipe and an estimated 638 tons of structural steel. All modules were first staged at the Lauren Manufacturing Facility in Abilene, Texas. Each module, up to 16x16x90 and 100 tons, were then disassembled and delivered for final assembly at the Fort Stockton project site. Additionally, Lauren fabricated 4 parallel pipe rack modules (800 in total length), utilizing over 11,400 feet of linear pipe, as well as an estimated 548 tons of structural steel. The scope also included 24 process skids (60 in average length) and entailed the use of over 12,000 feet of linear pipe, as well as an estimated 537 tons of structural steel. Each skid measured up to 20 x 20 x 60 and weighed in at around 30 tons. Thirteen of the skids were assembled in Abilene, with eleven being shipped loose for assembly at the project site in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Florida Power & Light 75 MW Hybrid Solar Power Generating Facility Pipe Fabrication and Modular Assemblies, Indiantown, Florida
Laurens Manufacturing Facility in Abilene, TX supported the 75 MW Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center with the fabrication of large bore steam piping for the power block area, heat transfer piping loops in the solar field, and fabrication of the process equipment skid that was part of the heat transfer fluid system. Over 2,100 spools of carbon steel (average size 3 inches) were fabricated, using more than 27,000 linear feet of pipe. This facility also fabricated and assembled a Ullage skid using 50 spools, also averaging 3 inches. All materials on this project were delivered on time, with a rejection rate of only 1.37%. This project was located in Indiantown, FL and is the largest-capacity solar thermal plant to be built in the last two decades and the second largest in the world. It is also the first hybrid solar facility in the world to connect to an existing combined-cycle natural gas power plant.

Lauren completed fabrication of all piping for a new ROSE Unit in Artesia, New Mexico. 1,200 pipe spools were completed and shipped to the jobsite, including 5% chrome piping manufactured to B31.3 service. Lauren has a long history and an extensive relationship with Navajo and has also completed fabrication of all the carbon steel piping in support of our Gas-Oil Hydrotreater Project in Artesia, New Mexico. Piping was fabricated to B31.3 severe standards.

Lauren completed fabrication of all 2 and larger piping (including underground) and (24) modular equipment skids for Laurens 225MW fast track EPC Cogeneration II Project in Las Vegas, Nevada. This included fabrication and pre-assembly of a 600 main pipe rack in 60 lengths complete with piping (in position) with supports, guides, painting and insulation. Not including the underground and rack piping, Lauren fabricated 1,330 spools with 8,100 welds within 5 months. Lauren also fabricated all required electrical panels.

Lauren fabricated multiple Pipe Rack and Process Equipment Modules in support of HPDs Produced Water Evaporator Package for (2) Steam Assisted Gravity Drain (SAGD) projects in the Oil Sands region near Fort McMurray, Alberta Canada. Scope includes heat trace and insulation, hydrotesting of piping, bench checks of instruments, and wiring of instruments to skid mounted junction boxes. Additionally, scope included all ship-loose piping with flanged connections to eliminate virtually all field welding, of particular benefit due to the harsh working environment. All Process Equipment Skids and Piperack Modules were completely pre-assembled and trial fit to the greatest extent possible.
