JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Chief Development Officer Department: NRAEF Reports To: Executive Director, NRAEF Status: Exempt Level Grade: This job description provides a general guideline to the most common duties, responsibilities, and minimum requirements for this position. It is not all inclusive and the actual position may vary as circumstances indicate or as determined by the Foundation and Association. Working hours are primarily normal business hours, although the Chief Development Officer will need to work varied hours to include weekends, as business needs dictate. Summary of Position: The Chief Development Officer is responsible for leading and executing the current and long-range strategies to build a strong fundraising culture and program that meets annual and long range Foundation goals. Working closely with the President and CEO, Executive Director and the Board, the Chief Development Officer designs and implements comprehensive and dynamic strategies and initiatives that will ensure the success of individual, corporate and foundation giving. These goals will be directed by the Foundations strategic plan and designed to meet and exceed the organizations annual goals for philanthropic revenue. This key leader will develop, research, and oversee grant-based funding opportunities as an expanded channel. Works with senior leadership of NRA and NRAEF to articulate plans for program expansion based on funding opportunities and organizational priorities. This position is a member of senior management, and serves on the NRA/NRAEF Management Team. Principle Duties: Develop a strategic plan to accelerate growth over the next three years while sustaining annual and planned giving initiatives, with particular focus on leading operator, supplier and distributor organizations as well as high net worth individuals Oversee a full range of fundraising activities including annual and planned giving, major gifts, corporate giving, foundations amd trusts, sponsorships, direct marketing and special events Supervise and provide strategic direction for staff of fundraising professionals Identify and pursue fundraising opportunities and cultivate potential donors working with the Board, the ProStart Cabinet, CEO, Executive Director and senior leadership of NRA and NRAEF Involve Board members, particularly those on Development Committee of the Board and the ProStart Cabinet , along with other volunteers in appropriate fundraising activities, driving sponsorships, program support and special events that achieve the income goals National Restaurant Association. Attend conferences and events as necessary to ensure visibility of Foundation and fundraising efforts. Lead creation of and direct execution of communication strategy for fundraising Ensure execution and production of events for fundraising are carried out to the targeted successful conclusion. General Management, Finance and Administrative Responsibiilities Include: Supervise, hire, manage, evaluate, reward and when necessary, terrminate staff. Model organizational values and competencies Fully understand the overall financial status of the Foundation including the budgetary process, ensuring that sound financial controls are in place and that funds are appropriately expended to support organizational strategy and advancement Ensure that the Development team operates as a team with shared goals, shared aspirations and high levels of staff engagement in achieving department and organizational goals 1. Ideal Experience: The Chief Development Officer must be a seasoned leader and development professional with demonstrated success in fundraising, management, supervision and strategic direction Experience will most likely have been gained over 10+years in either the for-profit sector, major non profit organizations or institutions of higher education. The successful candidate will have many of the following attributes: - broad. experience in the cultivation and solicitation of major donors; - a broad knowledge of corporate and foundation giving and planned giving; - success in a senior level development position in a complex non profit or for profit organization; - success in securing major gifts; - executive presence who recognizes the potential of the NRAEF and is attracted to and can be passionate about its mission; - experience in working with non profit and for profit boards of trustees; - entrepreneurial, pragmatic leadership style and high energy with a strong spirit of hospitality; - ability to convey a strong vision in a clear and easily understood way with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; - broad understanding of the restaurant industry/business environment. Demonstrate an ability to work with and command the respect and confidence of leadership, volunteers, senior management, program staff and development colleagues. Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and strong marketing and negotiation skills, along with an ability to work in a complex organization.
