An interesting feature about the school district is that the Leland Bosseigh Public Library is the only school-district funded library in the state. This unique relationship supports collaboration on all levels for the students and community of Leland Bosseigh.

Results for the Maturity Model Benchmarks rubric

I)
The Administrative Filter is one of five categories that will help the District determine the impact of their technology efforts within the District. There are four subsections with two different types of questions in each subsection that will help break down the Administrative section even further. These two types of questions are designed towards Behavioral and Resource/Infrastructure. i) Policy All students and staff sign a network user agreement form that defines what is acceptable and unacceptable use. Behavioral Intelligent Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent

ii) Planning The District has initiated a 4-year technology plan in place with contributions from two committees (consisting of staff, educators from every building, administration, the Curriculum Coordinator, and community members). My understanding is that there is no formal review outside of normal discussion during the committee meetings. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

iii) Budget The District has a Technology Budget that is broken down into six categories: Software; Hardware and Networking; Operation, Maintenance and Communications; Professional Development; Human Resources; and Other. This budget increases over the 4-year plan to account for inflation, unforeseen changes in the cost of technology and the emergence of new technologies. Behavioral Intelligent Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent

iv) Administrative Information Many items and documents are available to the staff on the teacher shared drive. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

II)

The Curricular Filter is the second of five categories that will help the Leland Bosseigh School District determine the impact of their technology efforts within the District. There are five subsections with two different types of questions in each subsection that will help break down the Curricular section even further. These two types of questions are designed towards Behavioral and Resource/Infrastructure. i) Electronic information Many students and staff are very dependent on electronic information. However there are still a few educators who continue to use only paper and book resources. They use technology for depth or diversity but not both. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

ii) Assessment While the District has an online grade book that all staff are required to use, there are still several teachers primarily using the paper version and then transferring the information. There are also a few online programs that the teachers use for the students to submit their papers but only about half of the staff utilize it. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Island

iii) Curriculum Integration Currently, every core area and a majority of the encores are in their second or third year of developing new curriculum designed to align with the Common Core Standards. These new curricula are being designed with an substantial focus on technology and other resources. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

iv) Teacher Use While an emphasis is being placed on using technology every day in the classroom, if something unforeseen were to happen to the technology, the educators could still continue with a majority of the lessons.

Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent

v) Student Use The Districts Instructional Technology Scope and Sequence Plan calls for 9th 12th grade students to demonstrate independent competence in almost 90% of the planned elements. The other 10% has a Practice/Independent rating attached to it. This explains why not all assessed outcomes are dependent upon the use of technology. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

III)

The Support Filter is the third of five categories that will help the Leland Bosseigh School District determine the impact of their technology efforts within the District. There are four subsections with two different types of questions in each subsection that will help break down the Administrative section even further. These two types of questions are designed towards Behavioral and Resource/Infrastructure. i) Stakeholder Involvement Most (if not all) of the staff are informed of the planning and implementation groups, but it usually appears that the same select few people are members of these committees. While technically every school is represented, not every department is. Additionally, extracurricular activities (both chosen and designated) consume much of the free time that could be alternatively used for technology committee meetings. Behavioral Integrated to Island Most of the committees are aware of the planning and implementation procedure, but few are engaged in the process. Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent to Integrated All of the groups are represented in the planning and implementation process. ii) Administrative Support With numerous changes to a majority of the administrative positions in the District (most of them filled internally), the administration has

ensured that there is constant discussion with everyone. They also provide proper time and support to allow the needs to be presented to them. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent

iii) Training In the District, all staff are required to attend a minimum of three technology sessions per school year. These sessions are organized by the District, and utilize several Leland Bosseigh staff members as the presenters. However, it has been observed that most of the staff does not seek additional formal training after the three-session minimum requirement has been met. Behavioral Intelligent to Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Island

iv) Technical & Infrastructure Support Due to budget cuts, most of the technical assistance has been outsourced, and only one person is available for all the schools in the District. The outsourced technology help is centered in one location and they do their best to address any issues remotely when at all possible. Therefore, the teachers use informal help from each other a lot! IV)

The Connectivity Filter is the fourth of five categories that will help the Leland Bosseigh School District assess the impact of their technology efforts within the District. There are four subsections with two different types of questions in each subsection that will help break down the Administrative section even further. These two types of questions are designed towards Behavioral and Resource/Infrastructure. i) Local Area Networking The District is located in a remote part of the state. Therefore, there is no WAN available, but there is an extensive high-speed network that everyone uses. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

ii) District Area Networking (WAN) Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

iii) Internet Access All of the students and most of the staff use the Internet frequently. There are a few teachers who believe that additional technology is not necessary to effectively teach their classes. Wireless internet will become available at the middle school and high school during the next school year. For the first time, iPads will be issued to all incoming 6th-graders this fall. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent

iv) Communication Systems With the high school having a combination of 439 desktop and laptop computers with access to seven servers, email is heavily used. Behavioral Intelligent Resource/Infrastructure Intelligent

V)

The Innovation Filter is the last of five categories that will help the Leland Bosseigh School District determine the impact of their technology efforts within the District. There are two subsections with two different types of questions in each subsection that will help break down the Administrative section even further. These two types of questions are designed towards Behavioral and Resource/Infrastructure. i) New technologies There are a younger group of teachers in the school district who are aware of many new technologies in their subject area. The challenge is either getting their fellow colleagues to embrace these new resources or finding adequate time to integrate them into their curricula. Behavioral Island Resource/Infrastructure Island

ii) Comprehensive technologies The District has many technological resources at its disposal. It appears that if a teacher or group have found one way to complete a

task, they will continue to use that method without looking to see if a new or better way has become available. Behavioral Integrated Resource/Infrastructure Integrated

Final Summary
After completing the Maturity Model Benchmarks rubric and assigning point values for each rating (Emergent = 1, Island = 2, Integrated = 3, Intelligent = 4), the Leland Bosseigh School District has earned a total point score of 117.5 or a 3.1 Integrated in the ratings. This was expected, because over the last four years they have made it a priority to upgrade the technology and utilize it effectively to help equip the students of Leland Bosseigh with the latest 21st Century skills. There is still plenty of room to improve, but the Leland Bosseigh School District is heading in the right direction.
