SS Chesapeake Oil Tanker: Fuel Distribution Pipe Rehabilitation

Location: San Francisco, California Situation:
During Desert Storm in the early 1990s, this oil tanker, built in 1964, was rehabilitated in order to haul jet fuel oil to the Middle East. The cost of taking the corroded pipes out and replacing them would have been more than a few million dollars and could have also caused severe damage to the ship.

Year Completed: 1994 Solution:

American Pipe Lining, a Nu Flow company, cleaned and coated the 18", 20" and 22" fuel distribution pipes without causing any destruction. The epoxy protected the fuel lines from future corrosion. The projects cost and completion time was a fraction of what a repipe would have been.
