12 Assisted Suicide: Legality v Morality General purpose: to persuade Specific purpose: at the end of my speech, the audience will understand that assisted suicide interferes with morality and therefore should be illegal Introduction Attention Catcher: How many people would actually want to determine when it is time to die? How many people would want the burden of having to determine when it is someone elses time to die? How many people have elderly grandparents?It doesnt whether or not you could answer these questions. Everyone in this room is going to die one day, and while you are living and aging, YOU should want full control of your life. Listener relevance: That is the main controversy with assisted suicide: placing death in the hands of human beings who may or may not have a correct set of standards, morals or belief on their shelves. Speaker Credibility: For anyone who is studying to be a nurse, for anyone who has known someone that has passed away or for anyone who is going to grow old and pass away themselves, assisted suicide is a huge controversy that impacts your life. I am studying to become a nurse in the specific field of working with ill elderly individuals, and now that I understand the controversy behind assisted suicide, it is a responsibility for my future career and as a Christian, to inform others of the truth in regards to assisted suicide.
