ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
There are many people who have contributed positively to
this assignment and without their contribution it would not
be at the standard that it is. Firstly I would like to thank God.
He blessed me with a healthy brain and the opportunity to
use it for the success of this assignment.

To xxxxx, teacher of Social Studies at the xxxxxxxxx

School, for her analysis, advice, assistance and correction
which were really appreciated.

Also thanks to my parents who gave me the push I needed

to do this research confidently.

Much thanks and Gods blessing.

INTRODUCTION
Living in Cumberland Gardens for 16 years, I have noticed
that males in our community, almost all of them have
another partner, as odd as this was I always wondered why,
so I started this investigation. I decided to do an
investigation on promiscuity in Cumberland Gardens. The

Oxford dictionary stated that promiscuity is when one mixes

together ones sexual habit without restriction or regards for
partners feeling.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

What are the causes and consequences of male promiscuity
in the Cumberland Gardens Community?

Research Questions
The research questions below were used as a guide in
structuring the questionnaire.
Research Question
1How significant is the occurrence of male promiscuity?
2What are the causes of this practice?
3What consequences are there for family relationships in the
families where it occurs?

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION
In order to collect data for the survey, it was decided that
printed questionnaires should be used.
The questionnaire is a tool for collecting data that offers
several advantages:
1It requires little time to be completed, allowing the researcher
to understand what that particular person is thinking.
2The name of the respondent is not required, which will allow
him/her to answer with truth since a particular response
cannot be traced to him/her.
3It can be done at the convenience of the person required to
complete it, allowing him/her to check particular responses
as each person receives his/her own copy.

INSTRUMENT USED TO COLLECT DATA

the questionnaire. Please males, do not answer the questions
directed to females. Please females, do not answer questions

INTERPRETATION AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

Section 1
It was seen from the presentation in figure 1 that people in
Cumberland Gardens community do not find promiscuity in
males to be a problem or an abnormal occurrence. The
figure shows common law relationships had the highest
percentage 10%, they did not believe in marriage therefore
promiscuity is prevalent and likely to occur. 5% were
widowed, they believe in marriage and these people find
promiscuity to be a problem, 5% were both divorced or 15%
respectively married. 0% separated and 0% was single. This
helps to show the level of promiscuity.
The interpretation of table 1 shows the numbers of children
and % of respondent. The data show 5% of the respondents

27

had 3 children, 10% had 2, 10% had 5 children and 15% had
1. The 10% of respondents who said they had 2 children
only 1 of them live with them. The 10% who said they had 5
children only 2 of them live with them, the 5% who had 3
only 1 of them live with them and the 15% who had 1 that
same one live with them.
10% of the respondents stated that they are in several
relationships at one time, 5% each were in a steady
relationship or in a steady relationship and visiting on the
side and 5% said they are in no kind of relationships. This
help to show the presence of promiscuity.
Question 7 asked which house does they partners live in
and 5% of the respondents said they live in their own
houses, 5% said the house in which they live belong to their
family. 5% claimed that the house was rented, 5% stated it
was their spouses house and 5% stated the house belong to
their spouses family. This shows where the spouses live and
whether or not promiscuity can be done at that house.
5% of respondents stated no they would not marry their
partner and the reason why are: They cannot deal with the
jealous behaviour 5%, 5% She is too demanding, 5% each
said they do not believe in marriage or that their spouse is no
longer attractive and 10% said their partner is unable to have
children.
15% of the respondents stated yes they would marry their
partner and the reasons why are: The partner is not
demanding 30%.

28

It was seen from the presentation above that people in

Cumberland Gardens talk about promiscuity when they want
to, and when they saw it happened and these were 5% both
the other 5% said there was no time at all to talk about it
with their spouse.
10% of the respondents had money, and they formed
relationships quite easily, whilst 15% of respondents
claimed they owned a business, so it is fairly easy, though
10% said they were very shy, and found it difficult to form
relationships and 5% of the respondents said that they had
their families legacies to live on and the ladies wanted that
not me. These helped to show how promiscuity can occur.

Section 2
It was seen in table 2 from the presentation what do you
dislike mostly about your current relationships, the table
suggest that 5% believe there is too much demand for
money from the males, 0% had a problem having to commit
to one partner, 0 % believe that the female watches and
follow them too much,0% said there partner cannot produce
children, 0 % believe the outside children are disrespectful
and 0% spouse cannot produce children,5% said their spouse
is not supportive of the plans I make. This shows the reason
why partners may become promiscuous.
How would you deal with finding out that your spouse
whom you love and live with is in another relationship?
This graph interprets question 13 as follows: 0% of female
were afraid of the man but loved the flashy lifestyle that he
offers and therefore would not leave him. 0% had no

29

education or job so they cannot leave him, 5% said they had

several businesses with him and will not leave him, 15%
believe he loves her and because she is the one with the kids
he will stay with her and 0% believe that other relationships
are friendly relationships and she is the life
How often have these respondents produced a child from a
relationship? The respondents stated: With every woman
they had sexual relationship with 15%, only with woman
who have money and businesses 10%, only with their
present partner 5%.

were that it might separate the family 10%. The child or
children might not feel comfortable around that parent 5%
and 15% of the respondents stated that the child/children
might follow the example that that parent is setting.
How would you deal with contracting a STI or STD?
The graph indicate that 0% of the respondents would share
the disease with other people; 10% would isolate themselves
until death, 5% would commit suicide and 15% claimed they
would take themselves and their partners to get medical care
Figure 4 showed How respondents felt promiscuity should be
dealt with: 10% of the residents in Cumberland Gardens said
they would leave it as it is, 0% would want to vasectomies
the promiscuous male, 5% wanted to castrate the male, 5%
said they would label as bigamy and 10% said the
government should step in and create a law to stop

30

promiscuity.
This show how irresponsible males are and it shows how
little they care for their partner, also males are careless and
reckless they do not care for the partner health because they
would rather have sex with a lot of women and share STI
with them. They would rather the woman die than take that
partner to get medical attention. To show how little they care
about promiscuity the respondents strongly believe that
promiscuity should be left alone. Even in a family they
would still be promiscuous and let the children hate and
detest them, young children liked the idea of both parents
together but because of their reckless behavior they would
do it none the less and make the family separate these are
the type of males in Cumberland Gardens.

the plans he makes these thing drives the respondents to

cannot leave him, so even if he is promiscuous they would
not leave him. 0% of the males have produced with every
woman they had sexual relationship with.

32

children might not feel comfortable around that parent 5%.

leave it as it is they do not have a problem with promiscuity
and 5% of the respondents would share the disease with
other people; 15% would isolate themselves until death,
these are the consequences to the family in which it occurs.

Recommendation
1.The people in Cumberland Gardens should have a
community meeting and discuss what they have seen and put
into place a community awareness group to target the
children whose parents are promiscuous and show them the
correct way they should act.
2.The parents should go to a marriage counselor and discuss
their problems, then find meaningful solution to appeal to
the problem.
3.The researcher suggest that the children of the couple should
go to a Youth Opportunity Unlimited workshop where they
talk about the thing they have seen and discuss what their
parents have done and how it will affect them. The children
will how to tell right from wrong and talk to their parents on
that level. The children should now be able to know right
from wrong and learn from their parents mistakes.
