PREFACE
This standard, prepared by the Association’s Committee on Burning Behaviour of
Textiles and Textile Products, establishes a level of fire propagation acceptable for the

TEXTILE FLOOR COVERINGS — FIRE PROPAGATION OF THE
USE-SURFACE USING A SMALL IGNITION SOURCE
FOREWORD
Fire is a complex phenomenon and no single test will provide a full assessment of the
fire hazard under actual fire conditions. In the interpretation of the fire test results,
therefore, any uncontrolled variables relating to environmental conditions both with
respect to a fire situation and the use of textile floor coverings complying with this
standard must be taken into account. To assist in this function, the committee
responsible for the preparation of this standard is also giving consideration to fire
propagation of textile floor coverings under impressed radiation conditions.
