Property of Multiplication
All the positive and the negative numbers which can be represented on the number line. We say that the whole numbers with their negative numbers ( or additive inverses ) are called the series of integers. We can perform all the mathematical and the logical operations on the integers, thus it means that the integers can be added, subtracted, multiplied or even divided. Here we will learn about multiplying integers. The closure property of integers holds true for the multiplication of integers, it means that we must remember that the product of any two integers are also integers. Further we say that the integers have many other properties related to the product of two integers. Thus we will take them one after another here. 1. Multiplicative identity: There exist a number 1, which we call as the multiplicative identity, which when multiplied to any of the integer number, gives the same integer as the result. So we say that if any integer n is multiplied with the number 1, we get n as the result. It can be represented mathematically as n * 1 = n. 2. Power of 0 : There exist a number 0, such that if we multiply any of the integer with the number 0, then the result is always 0. So we can write mathematically that if n is any integer, then n * 0 = 0 3. Commutative and the associative property of the integers hold true for the integers multiplication, so we say that if we have a, b, Know More About :- Definition of Real Numbers

c as any three integer, then by the commutative property of multiplication of the integers, we mean a * b = b * a and by the associative property of the multiplication of integers, we mean a * ( b * c ) = ( a * b ) * c Now let us look at some of the rules of multiplying two integers. In case the two integers are positive , then the product of the two integers is also positive integer. So we get 3 * 5 = 15, here the two numbers which we are multiplying are positive numbers, so the result we get is also a positive number In second situation, we say that the product of the two integers is a negative number, in case one of the two integers is a positive number and the other integer is a negative integer.. SO -3 * +6 = - 18 , which is the negative number. We look at the third situation, when we say that the two integers are negative integers, then the product of the two integers is a positive integer. So we write : -2 * - 4 = +8 Keeping in mind the above rules of the multiplication, we conclude that if more that two integers are to be multiplied, then the product of the integers will be a positive number in case the number of the negative integers is even and the product of the series of the integers will be a negative numbers in case the number of negative integers odd. Keeping these rules in ind, the process of multiplication of the integers becomes easy to handle. When we sketch a number line, we come across the set of numbers, which goes on both right and the lift side of the number line and we observe that the more we move towards the left side of the number line, the number becomes smaller and the more we move towards the right, the number becomes larger. SO we conclude by saying that the number line extends from infinite -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 ,3, + infinite. All these numbers are termed as integers. It is the group of All positive and negative numbers including 0 ( zero ). Here we now talk about multiplying positive and negative numbers. There exist certain rules for the multiplication of the positive numbers, we must remember all these rules before we proceed for multiplication. If we have three rational numbers p1/q1, p2/q2 and p3/q3, then according to the distributive property of multiplication over addition we have ( P1/q1) * [ ( p2/q2) + ( p3/q3 ) ] = ( p1/q1 ) * ( p2/q2 ) + (p1/q1) * (p3 / q3 ) Here we observe that if we find the sum of the rational numbers p2/q2 and p3/q3, and then the sum is multiplied by p1/q1, then we get the same result if the distribution of multiplication over addition is done. Which means it is equal to the sum of (p1/q1) * (p2/q2) and (p1/q1) * (p3 / q3). If p1/q1 = 3/5, p2/q2 = 2/5 and p3/q3 = 1/5, then we check if this value of rational number satisfies the equation.
