Our Community Initiatives

The Group has been active in a whole range of community areas. We focus on education, sports, community development and childcare areas that mean something to our business and where we can make a positive impact. Currently, our endeavours are focused in two countries, Nigeria and Estonia.
National Campaign on Education and Sports In order to successfully promote the synergy between sports and education, De-United Foods Industries Limited (DUFIL) has partnered veteran sports figure, Chief Segun Odegbami. Chief Segun is a legendary footballer and has been encouraging the development of sports in Nigeria. Chief Segun and DUFIL have joined hands and developed the National Campaign on Education and Sports with an emphasis on football. Through this project tagged Taking Football Back to School, De-United Foods has distributed 10,000 footballs to 25 schools in 25 states in Nigeria. With this initiative, Taking Football Back to School has touched over 500,000 childrens lives.

Indomie Football Club Our devotion to developing football at the grassroots level led to the formation of the Indomie Football Club of Ota. The club is constantly discovering raw talent who are then groomed to become professional players. The success stories include Taiye Taiwo and Muri Ogunbiyi who have represented the country at national and international championships.

Community Development Projects One of the challenges experienced in third world countries, especially in rural areas, is accessibility to potable water. De-United Foods Industries Limited (DUFIL) has contributed to the alleviation of this problem in its host community by constructing boreholes to provide clean water. Residents of Ilata and Idedo communities in Ota, Ogun State now have access to good water. Ijamido Motherless Home Sponsorship De-United Foods Industries Limited (DUFIL) has also been able to contribute to the education of abandoned and motherless children at the Ijamido Motherless Home. Over the years, we have donated computers to the home to help train the resident children and prepare them for a working environment. To help the children appreciate music and develop their talent, we have also gifted musical instruments. Children at the centre also enjoy lunch on a daily basis courtesy of DUFIL. Educational Development Projects A commitment to enable children to achieve their best intellectual potential has seen De-United Foods Industries spending over 170 million naira on education grants to less privileged students in the society to help in the realisation of their dreams. Signboards have also been erected to properly distinguish schools that are part of the programme. Educational materials such as note books, writing instruments and teaching aids have also been donated to support teaching and learning.

Tolaram Foundation Tolaram Foundation, Tolarams charity wing in Estonia, has been created by Sonny Aswani, the head of Tolaram Group in Estonia, to enhance the social fabric of the country by lending an opportunity to those who are shunned by society, to develop their self esteem and be able to add value to their lives. The Foundation has defined a direction that addresses the need to assist handicapped children, by way of establishing a Centre for Music Education. This Centre will allow these children to express and enjoy themselves through music. Tolaram Foundation will be adopting the Figurenotes methodology, a highly acclaimed and proven system that has been developed by Finnish music therapists. This method uses a combination of figures and colours to help the children identify each note and octave. Figurenotes have opened a new page in music culture. It presents a new opportunity to those who are unable to master the traditional note system. Tolaram Foundation has published a special book of Figurenotes in Estonian for mentally disabled people, presenting them with an opportunity to learn and play music. This book consists of two parts: Methodology description and pedagogical advices A selection of songs in Figurenotes Besides this ongoing project, the Foundation has been exposed to many different aspects of the society. We have raised funds through donations and annual events to change windows at Tallinn Diacony Hospital, which cares for the terminally ill. We have also supported the Union of Mentally Retarded People to open their Day Centre in Tallinn. In our efforts to reach out to those who are forgotten by the Estonian society, we are also supporting a soup kitchen run by Mother Teresas Sisters of Charity, who do a fantastic job of feeding and housing the homeless.

Tolaram Group through various charity organizations in India has been supporting and encouraging the underprivileged sections of the society. Mohan Vaswani Family Trust, the philanthropic arm of the Group in India came into existence with the objective of fulfilling the Group's social responsibility. The trust has implemented various projects that provide aid in education, medical facilities, flood relief and other natural calamities.

Eurochem Technologies Corporation is strategically focused on developing low-cost, high-value petrochemical businesses with an international reach. It aims to achieve this by tapping on abundant sources of competitively priced natural gas in favourable locations across the globe. As the leader of an international venture capital funding initiative, the company has selected Nigeria for its first investment. After several years of in-house development, a fully integrated petrochemical complex that includes an Export Processing Zone is now in implementation. Our Pioneering Investment Eurochem Technologies Corporation has set up two Nigerian subsidiaries, Viva Methanol Limited and Axinova Polyolefins Limited, which will operate the methanol plant and the MTO polyolefins production plants, respectively. The investment plan will be implemented in two phases and both will be fully operational by 2009. In phase one, Viva Methanol Limited will own and operate the methanol plant which will be the worlds biggest single line facility with a capacity of 2.5 million metric tons per year. The entire production of the Viva Methanol Plant will be used as feedstock in phase two by Axinova Polyolefins Limited, which will own and operate the process plants. Through polymerisation, these plants will produce polyethylene and polypropylene. Lekki Export Processing Zone The Lekki Export Processing Zone will be jointly constructed by Viva Methanol Limited and Axinova Polyolefins Limited. Plans are well advanced for the creation of the first private Export Processing Zone in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria. Set in a 10,000 ha. area located east of Lagos in the Lekki Peninsula, this project will see the creation of an industrial and commercial centre for West Africa served by a self-contained port.

SoYah! is our brand of soya bean beverage that has recently been launched. The main markets for SoYah! are Nigeria and Iran. Production plants will eventually be constructed in these markets to further enhance SoYah!s market presence. Worldwide Trend in Soya Products The sale and use of products containing soya is growing rapidly in the world especially in Western Europe, North and South America. Soya, being a very cost effective source of protein, means that it could be further used to promote nutrition in developing countries. In addition, soya beverages are a popular alternative for people who need or want to reduce the lactose content in their diet. Soya has been used for centuries in the Far East to promote health and provide consumers with nutritious food and drinks. More recently, in the western world, soya products have been used by vegetarians and as ingredient in other foods. With a growing number of people trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle, the consumption of soya products has increased, especially since the FDA in the U.S. approved a health claim stating that: diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grammes of soya protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Trans Auto
Trans Auto is a company that holds the exclusive agency and distribution rights to Foton brand of automobiles and trucks for the West African markets including Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, Benin and Cameroon. With the co-operation of our sister company, BHN PLC, Tran-Auto has service centres and a central spare parts warehouse for key components in Nigeria. Foton. Motors Co. Ltd., was listed in the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 1998 and has continually grown in the automobile and light truck sector over the past 8 years. Since 1999, Fotons Light Duty Truck has ranked first in both sales volume and market share in China. In 2003, Foton Motors signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Daimler Chrysler which has helped Fotons export growth. As of now, Foton exports to more then 40 countries in the world including Middle East, Eastern Europe, South-East Asia and Africa

Insignia Print Technology

Insignia Print Technology is located in the Lekki EPZ in Lagos, Nigeria and is a 50-50% joint venture between the Tolaram Group and the Salim Group. Insignia Print Technology was established primarily to supply printed flexible packaging to the food and beverage industries of Nigeria. We have seen a steady and high growth rate in the printed flexible packaging sector for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Africa. The company has secured key long-term contracts for its production capacity with multinational companies and will continually look for new opportunities in this sector. The state-of-the-art factory includes a design that takes into account air-conditioning, relative humidity, dust, cleanliness, ease of maintenance, noise and air pollution to maintain and comply with International standards.

De-United Food Industries Ltd. Nigeria Manufacturer of Instant Noodles De-United Foods Industries Limited is a company manufacturing instant noodles in Nigeria. It is a 50:50 joint venture with Salim Group from

Indonesia. The Company has grown significantly since its establishment in 1995. The product is marketed all over Nigeria in the brand name of Indomie. This product enjoys very high brand equity in Nigeria. The company currently has 10 machines that have a combined production capacity of 152 mln packs per month.

Horizon Pulp & Paper Estonia Manufacturer of Sack Kraft Paper & Tissue Established in 1938, Horizon Pulp & Paper was acquired by the Group in 1995. The mill is located at Kehra, which is 40 km from Tallinn, the Capital of Estonia. HPP is an integrated paper mill producing sack kraft papers and tissue products in Estonia. It is one of the leading sack kraft suppliers in Europe and has a significant market share in the industry. (Multi Pro) incorporated in 1997, started marketing and distribution activities of Indomie Instant Noodles produced by De United Food Industries Limited. The primary market of Multi Pro is the entire Nigerian population. To facilitate distribution of its products, the company divided the country into four marketing zones namely the northern region, eastern region, Lagos and growth areas with a network of distributors. LAGOS, NIGERIA Job Scope:

The position, based in Lagos, Nigeria and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of Tolaram Group of companies in Nigeria, will be primarily responsible for setting up from scratch and managing a manufacturing unit for production and packaging of household liquid bleach. Job description: Identify suitable method of production, raw material and packaging materials and recommend cost effective process for production. Set up the manufacturing unit, taking full responsibility for sourcing of equipment, identification of suitable site for the plant, setting up of the plant, commissioning the plant and stabilizing the production, implementing quality assurance system etc. Run the plant efficiently and manage the production facility post project implementation.

Person specifications: A degree holder in Chemical Engineering. At least 10 years of experience in the manufacture of chlorine, caustic soda or sodium hypochlorite. At least 3 years experience in a similar role. Proven track record of leadership, man-management and inter-personal skills. Preference to candidates with relevant experience in liquid bleach manufacture.
