Competencies that Drive Superior Performance

Have you ever wondered why some companies consistently outperform others? Why some peoples performance is vastly superior to others even with similar backgrounds, job level and skills sets? Individuals and organizations that consistently deliver superior results differentiate themselves through development and application of competitive-edge competencies. Lela Panagides, CEO of Leap Into Leadership, will discuss the Big 8 competencies that differentiate average from superior performance. These are the keys to drive change, create new strategies, inspire people to achieve and form the basis for a competitive edge. Lela Panagides, CEO of Leap Into Leadership For twenty years, Lela Panagides has worked for some of the most admired global companies in the area of management consulting, leadership, learning and development, and organizational change. During her tenure as a management consultant with Price Waterhouse (later PricewaterhouseCoopers) and then Ernst & Young, Ms. Panagides worked with clients, employees, managers and executives in the areas of talent management, development, coaching and strategic planning. In her work as Director of People and Organization Capability at Microsoft, Ms. Panagides led the talent agenda for the Latin America Area, a $1.7 billion business, which included high potential identification, succession planning, manager effectiveness, organizational development and executive on-boarding and coaching. FROM THE PRESIDENT

New beginnings, new paths and new journeys are all thoughts that come to mind as I take on this huge responsibility as your chapter AWC President. I feel privileged to lead our chapter this year. A great manager has a knack for making ball players think they are better than they think they are. He forces you to have a good opinion of yourself. And once you learn how good you really are, you never settle for playing anything less than your very best. Reggie Jackson We are all leaders and can never be too comfortable. As being leaders and roles models, we need to provide ourselves with continued growth, development and constant learning. Each day seek an opportunity to affirm the greatness in others. All it takes is saying something nice. A compliment does things to a persons selfesteem and state of mind that is immeasurable. But what really gives a compliment an even bigger impact is when its unexpected. When someone comes out of the blue to say good job or a person you do not even know gives you a compliment, its likely to send you through the roof. Thats all it takes to make someones day. So if you appreciated a co-workers hard work, tell them about it. Congratulate your JILL RANDOLPH kid, or someone elses kid, about something positive they did. Its a simple but powerful way to put a smile on someones face. With that being said, I encourage each of you to step out of your comfort zone and talk to someone new at the next meeting. Find something out about them and provide a sincere compliment. Provide that extra pat on the back to sparkle someones day. That is what we do as leaders.
