Lesson Topic: Cooperative Games Length of lesson: 45 Minutes

Grade level: 3-5

Curricular Context / Overview: Students will perform activities today with an emphasis on cooperation, communication, and sportsmanship. Students will use the Omnikinball to participate in different cooperative activities with a focus on personal space and teamwork. Warm Up- dynamic stretching Set Induction/Intro: What we will learn today- why? Intro Game: Move Omnikin ball down the line as a team, dont drop it, work as a team to achieve each task (use hands, use feet, use elbows) Game 1: Space Chase - move the ball together to try to catch the Alien. Communicate to achieve each task (Catch the alien by rolling the ball around the circle). Game 2: Popcorn- Sitting in a circle in the crab position, try to pop the ball up as many times as possible without it going out of the circle ( try to beat previous number, set a goal) Closure: What did we learn today! Equipment needed: Omnikin Ball, Hoola hoops

Stage 1 Desired Results Goals/Content Standard(s): Students will work together cooperatively while playing different games with the ominkin ball.

Demonstrate sportsmanship in and out of class activities. Essential Question(s): Over Arching: 1. Why do we need to work as a team? 2. Why are there challenges when working as a team? 3. What can you do to be a good member of a team? Topical: 1. Why was it important to talk to each

other when trying to keep the ball up during the popcorn activity? 2. What did you need to do in order to be successful during each activity today? Why? 3. Why was it important to think of your classmates when performing each activity? Students will know 1. Cooperation is the key to successfully completing the activities. 2. Thinking of others is essential to the success of the group. 3. Communication can make or break a group. Stage 2 Assessment Evidence Performance Task(s): (Grasps) GCreate a poster advocating for fitness by working as a team. RArtists asked to work as a group APrincipal will choose the best poster SStudents will act as famous Artists picked to create posters advocating for fitness. Each team will consist of 5 group members, each member must participate equally. The poster that is most creative will be chosen by the principal and be placed in a showcase. PPoster SWork cooperatively with other students; demonstrate a willingness to work with other students toward a common goal 1. Develop better communication skills 2. Work cooperatively 3. Work in personal space

Stage 3 Learning Plan Learning Activities: (WHERETO or Gagne) 1. Gain Attention Set Induction: Get students interest up Team work! Famous groups of people who

work as teams...Basketball teams, soccer teams, Olympic teams, etc. How are they successful? 2. Inform students of todays objectives: Teamwork! Students will be able to work cooperatively while playing different games with the omnikin ball. 3. Recall of Learning: When have we had to work as a team? What were some things we had to do? What was challenging? What was easy? Benefits to teamwork? 4. Present Stimulus Material: Today we are working as a team to complete various tasks using the omnikin ball. We will need to communicate clearly so that we can complete each task. As a group, we need to think of others and not just ourselves. 5. Provide Learner Guidance: Tape poster on the wall that describes key to good team work and communication. This will be placed on the gym wall for every student to see during the lesson. 6. Elicit Performance: Students perform each task: Task 1- two lines facing each other. Send ball down and back using different tactics (use hands, elbows, feet) Task 2- Space Chase. Two circles one within the other facing each other, one or two aliens placed inside the two circles as a path for the runner. Students need to push the ball by passing it to the people next to them as they try to roll the ball to tag the alien. (communication, each person should touch the ball). Task 3- Popcorn. One large circle, students sit in crab position, using feet to lightly tap the ball up in the air. The goal is to keep the ball inside the circle popping it up as much as possible and keeping it within the circle. (Count, communicate)

7. Provide Feedback During tasks, be sure to provide feedback regarding teamwork. If a student isnt communicating effectively, refer to poster and help students understand the key to good communication. Have students problem solve to find out why something isnt working or why it is working. 8. Assess GRASPS Assessment (teamwork) Affective Domain: SWBAT work together cooperatively while playing different games with the omnikin ball. (Assess - teacher observation) Psychomotor: SWBAT run through pathway and stay in personal space with partner. (assess - teacher observation) Cognitive: SWBAT describe to the teacher what contributed to making them successful or not successful. 9. Enhance Retention and Transfer Students will be asked to apply their understanding to the GRASPS assignment and continually throughout the course.

Differentiation Techniques: Students with varying levels of ability will be provided modifications if necessary: Slower or faster activities Partner help/Teacher help Peer to Peer guidance
