Why Capesso?

BETTER RADIO NETWORK PERFORMANCE Radio network plans developed and improved by Capesso are significantly better than plans made by even the best engineers using manual methods. Capesso uses sophisticated, purpose-built, optimization algorithms to accurately balance competing design factors including propagation, geo-data, traffic, clutter, antenna pattern, cost and site availability. Capesso produces improved coverage, better quality and higher capacity at reduced cost. Capesso regularly shows design improvements of more than 30% over manual designs. Before and after comparisons have measured throughput improvements of more than 20% on previously optimised networks based only on changes in electrical tilt. GREATER PRODUCTIVITY To deliver the greatest productivity an ACP must be fast. Symenas focus on continual algorithm improvement over more than 10 years has delivered the fastest ACP. Using ordinary hardware Capesso produces plans in practical timescales. A great plan for 50 sites can be generated on a laptop in seconds. For a metropolis? No problem. WHAT ACTION DELIVERS THE BEST VALUE? Identification of the changes that deliver the best value is at the very heart of Capesso. Capesso can assign cost to every action, like costs for site acquisition, a site visit, a special piece of equipment or an antenna adjustment. Capesso mathematically balances each of these potential actions against the improvement it makes to network performance so that you can identify and implement the most effective changes in precisely the right order. EASE OF COMPARISON ACP visualization is all about comparing states. Whats the difference between before and after? How many steps should I implement? Whats the gain delivered by those changes? Capesso Inspector shows these comparisons quickly and graphically using a fast, purpose built GIS.

Case Study: Capesso LTE Planning The challenge in planning LTE networks is the broad range of new parameters introduced for this standard. No longer is the objective coverage, as it was with GSM, or max. coverage and min. interference as it was with the 3G standards. For LTE the considerations explode to include: Multiple carrier and frequency options Flexible bandwidth considerations Vendor specific adaptive modulation and coding schemes Maximum cell edge throughput and capacity Shared broadband antennas, MIMO These features of LTE deliver its most important benefit: higher spectral efficiency. That benefit can only be captured with the best, efficient network design.

Advanced LTE technologies supported in Capesso

Since its release in early 2008 Capesso LTE has let user reap the benefits of these innovations with features like: Unique and effective capacity & throughput targets Simultaneous joint optimization of multiple networks and overlays Inter-system interference minimization. More than 12 base station vendors have chosen to meet the LTE design challenge with Capesso.

Capesso delivers value

HETEROGENEOUS NETWORKS (HETNET) Modern networks deliver service across multiple technologies, frequency bands and cell architectures. Capessos Multi-System functionality delivers simultaneous joint planning across heterogeneous network components. Shared components like multi-band antennas can be optimized to meet shared performance objectives. Capesso can balance objectives between networks to deliver the best HetNet performance. TIGHT INTEGRATION WITH ASSET The Capesso design philosophy is to complement the planning tool and not replace it. Symena achieves this by tight integration of Capesso with ASSET. Tight integration has two parts: firstly there is one click, hands-off transfer of the data between tools. Secondly Capessos calculations are harmonized with ASSET. Harmonization means ASSET and Capesso provide the same view of your network's operation. So Capesso builds on your investment in ASSET, minimizes training and improves productivity. MEASURED INPUTS Capesso Drive Test combines the accuracy and power of measurements with the speed and reliability of Capessos automatic optimization algorithms to deliver practical solutions to measured problems. Data can be sourced from drive test and OSS or MR data to deliver simple, cost effective optimization based on measurements. IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING The implementation planning in Capesso takes a theoretical plan and makes it practical. With an optimized ordered list of network changes its simple to indentify the most valuable so that the highest value changes are implemented at the earliest possible moment.

Capesso Inspector Inspector is a purpose built geographical information system (GIS) to quickly and effectively view and compare the inputs, outputs and results of optimization tasks.

In a click you can compare two plans, before and after the optimisation

Improvement diagrams consider gain against implementation steps (cost). Any two steps can be compared to identify most cost effective solution.

CDF graphs show improvements across values as a comparison between the case before and after optimisation with Capesso

Reliable termination or are we there yet? A key challenge in designing the algorithms for an ACP is convergence on the true optimum. In searching the solution space the program should be designed so that it both converges quickly on the best solution and terminates reliably when the best result has been achieved. One of the things that has made Capesso the market leader in ACP is that it converges on the best and then terminates reliably. As a feature termination doesnt look like much. But the benefits are huge. There is no need for the engineer to judge, are we there yet? When you are there: Capesso terminates automatically Why would you have it any other way?
