In 2010, about thirty-four percent of the adult U.S. population was obese and the numbers are climbing steadily. Obesity is associated with significantly increased risk of more than 20 chronic diseases and health conditions that cause devastating consequences and increased mortality. In addition to making exercise more difficult on its own, obesity is also linked to depression, further adding to the challenges of staying fit and healthy, as those with depression typically find it more difficult to find the motivation to exercise. Doctors have find out that a combination of calorie restriction and exercise is more effective in fighting obesity than either one alone. But, because of their size, overweight people are often embarrassed to go the gym and need support to overcome this emotional barrier. Sticking to a weight reduction program is difficult for them and requires the support from people around them. -more- 5 | P a g e
