Monsignor Richard

Father Richard has just returned from his vacation! This is also his first look at our new format for the expanded bulletin. This site is under constructionits a work in progress. Please be patient as we tweak from week-to-week. All positive comments gratefully received. Even negative comments will receive intense rumination. You can reach us at bulletin@st-rita.org. Breathlessly Waiting, Your Bulletin Editors

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Todays Gospel has the crowd asking Jesus three questions. First, When did you get here, to which Jesus responds by rebuking them for their failure to grasp his miracle as a sign, an occasion to put faith in him. Their second question about accomplishing the works of God has Jesus respond that faith is the work that God wishes. Many scholars believe this is Johns answer to the faith-works dichotomy emerging in the early Christian community. Faith is the work of God in the believer, John would have us understand. The third question asked by the crowd is a request for a sign that would allow them to put faith in Jesus, as the manna in the desert allowed the Israelites to put faith in the Lord God. Jesus answers by revealing himself as the bread of life that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One

Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

Sacrament of Matrimony
Contact the Parish Office upon engagement; at least six months is needed for preparation of this joyous sacrament!

Sacrament of Confirmation

SAFEGUARD THE CHLDREN

How is compliance verified? Background checks and fingerprinting of all those who work with children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is used in conjunction with abuse awareness and prevention training programs. These programs help ensure the safest possible parish and school environments for our children. VPIN (Volunteer and Personnel Information Network) is an Archdiocesan background information tracking system. This system tracks employees and volunteers regarding their assignment histories, compliance for fingerprinting, background checks, and mandatory VIRTUS sexual abuse prevention training. For particular help, you may call the Archdiocesan Assistance Ministry, 213/637-7650. Articles from the Archdiocese are also on our website: st-rita.org (select Publications, then Safeguard the Children).

St. Rita GuildWomens Annual Retreat November 2-4 Although its only August, its not too soon to start thinking about the Guilds annual retreat. Mark your calendar and watch for further details.

Are you a registered Member at St. Rita?

Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. Being a registered parishioner is a requirement for infant baptism, school registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor, and even funerals. Additionally, if you are not registered, a yearly tax receipt cannot be issued since any donations you make to the parish throughout the year are entered as 5002/visitors because you have no unique ID number in our database.
