PREFACE

This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia / Standards New Zealand
Committee TX/12, Wool to supersede AS 1809 — 1981, The preservation of the integrity of
raw wool samples for display.
This Standard recommends procedures to be used to secure the integrity of wool samples
drawn for display in sale by sample. Its purpose is to preserve them complete and unchanged
from their state at the time of sampling so that they remain fully representative of the sale
lot from which they are drawn. This Standard is complimentary to the requirements for
integrity of subsampling set out in IWTO-7-92, Sub-sampling staples from grab samples.
This Standard lists the essential requirements necessary to maintain the integrity of the
sample. The way in which these requirements are complied with is left largely to individual
organizations. However, the Standard outlines recommended procedures that comply with the

essential requirements that should be considered when a security program is to be

implemented.
The recommended procedures cover handling during sampling; storage, and handling during
storage; display, and handling after display.
The Standard is one of a series of Standards for sampling and testing of wool. Other
Standards in the series are as follows:
AS/NZS
1133 Wool — Determination by the Airflow Method of the mean fibre diameter of core
samples of raw wool
1134 Wool — Determination of wool base and vegetable matter base of core samples of
raw wool
1362 Wool — Calculation of IWTO combined certificates for deliveries of raw wool
1363 Wool — Grab sampling — Greasy wool
1363.1 Part 1: Method for grab sampling greasy wool from bales
AS
1980 Wool — Core sampling of raw wool in bales
2274 Wool — Requirements for the issue of a test result for raw wool
