PREFACE

This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee
SF/23, Occupational Protective Gloves to supersede (in part) NZS 5812:1982.
This Standard is identical with and has been reproduced from, BS EN 1082-1:1997 Protective
clothing — Gloves and arm guards protecting against cuts and stabs by hand knives, Part 1: Chain
mail gloves and arm guards.
As this Standard is reproduced from a European Standard, the following applies:
(a) Its number appears on the cover and title page while the European Standard number appears
only on the cover.
(b) In the source text, ‘this European Standard’ should read ‘this Australian/New Zealand
Standard’.
This is a free 7 page sample. Access the full version at http://infostore.saiglobal.com.

(c) A full point substitutes for a comma when referring to a decimal marker.
Guidance for the selection, care and use of occupational protective gloves is not covered by this
Standard but is provided in a separate Standard in the series which is in the course of preparation.
In the course of considering adoption of this Standard, Committee SF/23 agreed that the reader’s
attention should be drawn to the following:
Glove size may not be able to be measured to the accuracies specified in this Standard due to
the nature of chainmail. The specified sizes do not reflect hand sizes of the working
population.
This Australian/New Zealand Standard is identical with BS EN 1082-1:1997 and is reproduced by
permission of CEN rue de Stassart, 36, B-1050 Bruxelles.
All rights of exploitation of this document in any form and by any means are reserved worldwide by
CEN to CEN National Members and reproduction may not be undertaken without the expressed
permission in writing of CEN through Standards Australia or Standards New Zealand.
The terms ‘normative’ and ‘informative’ have been used in this Standard to define the application of
the annex to which they apply. A ‘normative’ annex is an integral part of a Standard, whereas an
‘informative’ annex is only for information and guidance.
