Australian/New Zealand Standard
Water microbiology
Method 16: Bactericidal efficiency of water
disinfecting tablets
PREFACE
This is a free 1 page sample. Access the full version at http://infostore.saiglobal.com.
This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand
Committee FT/20, Water Microbiology, as part of a series of methods for the
microbiological examination of waters for domestic and industrial use.
The method determines the bactericidal efficiency of disinfection tablets used to disinfect
small quantities of water obtained from untreated water supplies or water of unknown
qualities.
This Standard provides a standardized test to determine the bactericidal efficiency of water
disinfecting tablets under laboratory test conditions. Testing is done on the simulated
contaminated water outlined in the test method which shows that 99.99% kill is possible for
disinfection tablets.
The terms ‘normative’ and ‘informative’ have been used in this Standard to define the
application of the appendix to which they apply. A ‘normative’ appendix is an integral part
of a Standard, whereas an ‘informative’ appendix is only for information and guidance.
METHOD
1 SCOPE
This method provides a standard procedure for the determination of bactericidal efficiency
in terms of percent kill of specified microorganisms in a simulated contaminated water
(SCW).
NOTE: A flow diagram of the procedure is shown in Appendix A.
