June 18, 2012 Orientation to the College of Health Sciences

Initially, we were supposed to have this

weeks Duty in Aleosan District Hospitals OR, DR, and ER. However, due to the unforeseen activities and holidays, we were not able to push through with the original area assignment mainly because of the following reasons: 1. The Orientation. ! Monday, June 18, 2012, was the schedule for our cluster to have the orientation to the college. This activity took one day off from our supposedly duty to Aleosan District Hospital. It was held in the Nepomuceno Building in Tanghalang Michael Clark at 7:30 in the morning. Attendance was checked, so were the uniforms. Each group was asked to go to the front and form

a line where the clinical instructors can see whether they are wearing the prescribed uniforms or not. Since we are already in our fourth year of stay here in the university, most of us were not really that excited to have an orientation to the college rules once again. However, the orientation had a lot of new information. Like those about our exhibit forms for PRC and the things we need to prepare for as level four students. In short, the orientation opened our eyes that we.are.fourth years...

This days affair brings us to reason

number 3. 3. June 20, 2012, Wednesday, is a City Wide Holiday. This day is another of the many reasons why our Aleosan District Hospital exposure was cancelled. Due to the Holiday, another day was

removed from our duty week. And because of that, since there are only 2 days left in our rotation this week, we were instead assigned to School Health Nursing in Notre Dame University Elementary Training Department Clinic. We werent required to go to school today so we used this day instead to work on our plans for the Health Teaching we would perform.

Duty Day 1

June 21, 2012

This is technically the rst

day of our duty since the past few days were spent on college and university activities. For the rst part of the day, we had the checking of attendance and then the

nished with their dry run, the group, together with their Clinical Instructor, Maam Imelda V. Javier, RM, RN, proceeded to the NDUETD clinic. There they were able to work with Maam Jamie Daguino, RN and Sir Dan Lester Galindo, RN, the NDU-ETD clinic School Nurses. paraphernalia. And then we proceeded to the discussion of the days activities. After the discussion, we went on with the Dry run for the Health Teaching we were supposed to implement on the same day to the classes of grades 4, 5, and 6 of NDU-ETD. After the two groups were

Activities for Day 1

Initially the group planned to

have deworming for grade I pupils and health education for the rst day of duty, however, they have decided that they push through their plan for the next day instead. So, instead of going room to room for a health teaching about dengue, the group opted to assist in the clinic activities because of a number of students who were not feeling well. We have noticed that most of the students complained about stomach ache and head ache. Some were febrile and there were cases of accidents such as being scratched by a classmate that needed dressing of wound. The students were also assigned to several areas in the university where they take the blood pressure of the faculty and staff. The students also helped in dressing wounds and monitoring the temperature of febrile pupils. Aside from the aforementioned activities, the Team Leader for the Day, Ms. Sinsuat, together with Maam Javier, were able to give the letter of permission for the implementation of activities to Dr. Caburnay, the NDU-ETD and Junior High Principal. The letter of permission was afrmed in preparation for the next days activities. Aside from that, we also decided upon which case we were taking as this week is case-nding week. SO instead of gambling on taking our case next week, we have decided that we will take something new. We have decided to make use of the case we have in the area so we decided to have a school health nursing case study. We looked into the family history les of the grades 3,4,5, and 6 students in the clinic

and tallied the number of the most common illnesses these children have running in the family to nd out which diseases they are most at risk of. And based on the nal tally, the top 3 diseases were Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and Bronchial Asthma(see appendix 4).

Javier decided that we also have our break. After our break, we had a meeting again in the clinic. Maam June 22, 2012 Javier gave us her initial feedbacks about our way of teaching. She told us that we should impart our second day of duty was positive energy to the children so in-deed a great experience for the that they become more interactive entire group. We were also able to obtain the medicine needed for the deworming however, we were unable to implement because of the time constraints. So, the group has opted to leave the supply in the care of the clinic nurses.

On the Afternoon of Duty Day 2

On the afternoon of day 2,

we had our quiz and evaluation exam for the rotation. We had a total of 20 items of quiz and 50 items of eval exam. The quiz was mainly about the Health Teaching we gave to the students about dengue. The evaluation exam, on the other hand, was mostly about our concepts in NCM 206 and NCM 207A. After the evaluation exam, Maam Javier asked us about our difculties for the week. She also gave us her general feedback on our performance, as individuals and as a group. We also reviewed on the answers to the eval exam and the quiz. After all those, she gave us some advice on our case study. She also instructed us on the division of job and of other requirements we should submit later on. She gave us some announcements for the schedules of events such as the mini case presentation and the defense for the thesis.
