Product Safety Framework Part 3.5: Product safety warning labels and markings

AIM
This Part of the PSF applies to products which require the associated provision of warnings and markings which alert the user to potentially dangerous situations when using the product. The Part suggests a format for these warnings and markings which will maximize their prominence, ability to be read and understood and help reduce hazardous situations involved with the use of the product. This GRM does not require technical expertise. This means that it does not require specialized qualifications, skills, training and/or equipment or facilities to determine compliance.

PREFACE
1 PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING LABELS AND MARKINGS 1.1 Preamble As a principle, suppliers shall always strive to design products in such a way as to eliminate any potential hazards or risk of injury to the user. This may be done initially in the original design, testing and redesign phase of the products development, with the supplier taking into account the intended use of the product and its reasonably foreseeable use, misuse and in some cases abuse. Suppliers should always be aware of mechanisms, processes and materials which, if used or designed into the product, may also help to reduce any potential hazards. Safety features which can be practically incorporated into the design of the product and which minimize the potential hazards associated with the products use are to be encouraged whenever these hazards are still in evidence. Where a potential hazard or safety risk remains identifiable and that hazard or risk can not be eliminated in line with the above processes and the hazard is considered to be relevant in terms of the possible consequences for the users safety or health, a product safety warning label or marking shall be used.
