PREFACE
This Handbook was prepared by Standards Australia and the Australasian Teleconferencing Association to describe the concepts and principles of teleconferencing. It also provides an introduction to the technology involved in teleconferencing, the equipment used and the procedures for setting up a teleconference. The objective of this Handbook is to provide users and potential users of teleconferencing with an understanding of teleconferencing in order to encourage and facilitate its further adoption in Australia and New Zealand.

This Handbook is the result of the joint efforts of Standards Australia and the Australasian Teleconferencing Association (ATA). The ATA provided the draft text and has the responsibility for the technical content of the Handbook. Standards Australia particularly wishes to acknowledge the work of the members of the ATAs Standards and Technical Committee who contributed to the Handbook. The ATA is the independent, non-partisan industry body for teleconferencing in Australasia. It was incorporated in 1992. The ATA aims to promote the development and application of all types of teleconferencing in both the Australasian region and around the globe. Membership of the Association encompasses companies and individuals spanning various industry sectors including telecommunications, computing, education, mining, financial, legal and manufacturing. The ATAs mission is to represent the Australasian teleconferencing industry and to promote the development and application of all types of teleconferencing in the interest of its members. If you would like more information on the ATA or are interested in becoming a member, please contact the Secretary at PO Box 3151, South Brisbane, Queensland 4101.
