Conflict among countries happens when two or more countries disagree with one another over issues which

they think are against their national interest. Point Competiton over scarce resources Description 1. Countries compete for natural resources such as land,water,oil and fish. 2. An example is the conflict between Britain and Iceland. Iceland is a country with no natural resources.Therefore, they depend on fishing for their living. 3. This leads to a conflict when the British threatened the amount of fish in Icelandic water because Britain fishermen were believe to be over-fishing. Several small battles took place between Iceland and Britain in the Icelandic Sea. These were all motivated by Icelands wish to ensure her economic survival. Iceland broke its diplomatic relationship with Britain. 1. A country will claim control over a certain land if it is important to its defence and national pride. If one country tries to extend control by taking over territories which another country sees as rightfully theirs and hence as a matter of pride, will do something to protest, conflict will result. 2. An example is the on-going border conflict between Indiaa nd China. It is difficult to have a clear border between India and China as much of it lies in the inaccessible Himalayas. T The two border regions the Aksai Chin plateau and the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) were the areas of conflict between India and China because they could not agree to the border line between India and China. 3. In 1959, tension between the two countries worsened as fighting broke out in the NEFA and the Aksai Chin plateau.In 1961,there was another outbreak of violence but the war ended quickly. This shows that countries are not willing to give up their land easily because of national pride and defence.These land can be used for agriculture or industries.The unwillingness can lead to an outbreak of violence and conflict. Explanation If source of revenue is threatened and diplomatic attempts with the other country fails,tensions may arise leading to conflicts as national interests are threatened.

1. Differing values and beliefs among countries can cause conflicts. Countries can come into conflict if they think their ideological beliefs are being threatened 2. For instance, in 1945, Korea was divided into 2 halves at the 38th parallel.The northern part was occupied by Soviet Union which adopted a communist system.

Hence, countries readily resort to violence to eliminate or defend against competing ideologies. This is because a different ideology has a direct implication on how economic resources are managed and this can threaten the survival and well-being of a nation.
