Alison Baillie ETEC 590 eportfolio proposal

*This is a fluid document*

Purpose:
The purpose of this eportfolio is to showcase the work I have completed during my time in the MET program. Additionally, my hope is to demonstrate my learning throughout the past two years and show how my thinking has shifted, grown and become more rooted in theory. Furthermore, this eportfolio will serve as my capstone requirement for TQS to qualify for a category 6.

Objectives:
To document my learning throughout the MET program To make connections between theory and practice To show my commitment to professional development To attempt to demonstrate my use of technology in my own practice To provide a way to evaluate the capstone project

Audience:
The audience for my portfolio will be fellow MET students and faculty and the TQS board. I also hope that my portfolio will be beneficial to my colleagues to demonstrate how technology can be used in the primary classroom.

Evidence:
I am thinking about using the metaphor of raising salmon in the primary classroom. There are so many important aspects to raising salmon and like the MET, each step is interwoven with the next. Raising salmon is a key component of my Grade 1/2 classroom and an authentic learning experience for my students. It really is the capstone of their year. However, there is a foundation to lay, responsibilities to be kept and finally a release at the end. I originally was going to use the life cycle of a salmon, but this metaphor is more meaningful and rooted in my professional life. I intend to argue that the steps and preparation involved in raising salmon are similar to

gaining an understanding of educational technology. However, each year there are new things to learn from the salmon tank, just as the rapid changes in technology occur.

Tools and Artefacts

I am 90% sure I am going to use UBC blogs to develop my eportfolio as it is a tool I am comfortable with. Throughout the program I have used blog sites and learned the ins and outs of them. I am a little concerned that the capabilities may be limiting. My other option is using wix, a tool I have never used before but am interested in. Wix supports more widgets and will be able to display more multimedia. Additionally, the design of wix sites are more visually appealing. Significance
Constructing my epotfolio will provide the opportunity to look back and reflect on my learning process throughout the program. My understanding has changed and evolved, and looking back at projects I will be able to explain my thinking in the past, and how I would alter the assignment in the future. Before the program, I saw technology as a tool, now I view it as a way to support learning.

Learning through the constructing process

Each step in building my eportfolio will solidify my understanding of educational technology. The process will enable new ideas to be generated, concepts to be applied, and time to connect learning across classes together. Because we are provided with a significant amount of time to build our portfolio, the portfolio is of a fluid nature. Changes can be made as I recognize better ways to display my learning. It is also an

opportunity to display my technical skills. I hope to relate course work to my professional practice.
