Orderton Penrose Farm By Natasha Jukes Chapter 1 Job at Stake Right, that brings us to the end of this period.

. Behind me on the board is your homework, which is to continue reading up to page 52 of Wuthering Heights and at the same time write of any thoughts, or feelings that come to you whilst you read this. This will give you an idea on how Emily Bront wanted the reader to feel while she wrote the novel. Of course Zoe Trevena, one of the newest members of staff teaching at Exeter Grammar School for Science, already knew that by the next period of English that her Year 10 class would come to, if all but 7 of the 21 students situated in the room would even bother to try and complete this assignment. Does everyone understand the task to be accomplished, if I dont find some thoughts, as Ill be asking various people, there will be consequences; and of course none of you would ever dream of standing in front of the hall where Professor Johnstone would be standing with the cane. All of the 21 students in front of Zoe looked startled, remembering that their school was one of the last in the area to still use this type of punishment to those who had been disobedient and wouldnt obey academic rules, so as soon as the bell rang striking three in the afternoon, the students gathered up their exercise books and other pieces of equipment into their bags and headed towards the classroom door, some students already passing conversation on how to write up their assignment. Zoe! a shaky, feminine sort of voice called through the door as Zoe began collecting the schools copies of Wuthering Heights for those who had forgotten them, in this case, was nearly everyone. Tammy! Zoe replied with a weak smile as she looked up from collecting a book off a desk towards the centre of the decently sized classroom. Tamara always trotted in the same style, especially when it came towards the late afternoon, as everyone knew she could not walk in heels, no matter on the style or height of the heel. She wasnt built for them, but still wore them nevertheless. Todays shoes were two inch black stilettos, fitted with a pale blue long sleeved top, black trousers and a teal cardigan, with her blonde bob fitted into a side parting, adding black mascara and white lip gloss to the scenario. Johnstone wants to see us all, and apparently this isnt good news. The almost uplifting corners of Zoes mouth began to slip as she heard the news. Usually if Tamara mentioned something in a shaky voice it could be good news such as a new squeeze, which at the moment that man was called Carl, but when she mentioned the hint of bad news, this was in for the worst. Bad news, as in for all of us, or as in for just us pair? No, as in for all of us, Tamara replied once more. Tamaras sudden news started to spread worry not only across them, but also across all of the staff of the building. Professor Henry Johnstone didnt usually call upon his employees in short notice, if any of sorts this would be within 24 hours notice, but in this case word had only begun to spread around within the last few hours. Of course Tamara Hughes would know the news better than

anyone else, being Johnstones secretary, she was called upon to deliver the news amongst the building. Within a few minutes all members of staff was huddled up in the larger of the two meeting rooms situated in the school, just round the corner from Johnstones office on the ground floor of the school right by the Science Department, as Professor Johnstone slowly walked in, with his usual sour-looking face and awfully coloured tailored suits, this time though, not so bad, casually sporting a light-turquoise full length shirt with a simple black suit. His posture was slouched as he gingerly sat down, noticing the growing concern spread across the faces of his employees sitting and standing before him. Before Professor Johnstone even managed to part his lips in order to compose his first sentence, Dr. Josephine Worthington, head of the Chemistry department, started to blurt out questions such as So this is big news is it, is it good or bad? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? and so on. In this case she wasnt the only one, many others began to join in whilst Zoe just sat heaped up in a corner with Tamara and Geoff Lancaster, head of Sports. Whilst everyone went on a daily rant as if she was watching Question Time on the TV, she was surprised on how first of all everyone managed to fit in the room, never mind the majority finding a seat. Please people if you can just all shut up for a few minutes I will tell you my statement!! Everyone went silent, a cool mild chill vapourised throughout the room, the look of worry started to re-appear across many faces. Johnstone wasnt usually one for bellowing out but when everyone sounds like hyenas on a laughing fit or a bunch of orang-utans chasing another in the wild this was necessary. Thank you, now ladies and gentlemen if I may have your attention please I have a very important message to deliver to you all, Johnstone continued. As you are very aware in two weeks on 18th July all students and staff will be finished for the annual summer holidays. Now as many of you have been asking for next autumns term dates Im afraid I cannot give you those as this term will be the last for the children. No one spoke, everyone in shock by the huge bombshell that Johnstone had dropped. You cant be serious, asked one teacher, this to be Heidi Gregg, one of the many Maths teachers. Where exactly are the children going to be transferred to, its not as if there are many schools open nowadays with the recession admitted another. Where are we going to end up come September? The questions asked by many came pouring out, many still shocked obviously, some whos shock was turning into anger, knowing that they had there families to provide for and the hard hitting recession wasnt doing anyone any favours. Quiet down people, please! If you let me explain, most of your questions will be answered, one way or another. Johnstone continued his address. Unfortunately due to low-funding we cant afford to keep this school open, like many other schools across the country have experienced. Also, we dont have enough pupils to keep this school open, as the numbers are decreasing each year. Therefore come September each pupil will be moved to either a school in Exminster, Stoke Hill

or Matford, depending on each childs permanent residence. As for the staff half of you will be taken on at a high school in one of those three areas, or Im sorry to say but you will be made redundant. At this point Zoe felt the urge to speak out any thoughts that crossed her path. How do we know who exactly out of all of us here will be chosen to be took on at a different school? Good point! Tamara plus many others replied. Well Miss Trevena plus others, all of your CVs, which we have had a copy of since you applied here for your positions have been sent to each of the three schools. They will then decide whom they will take on and whom they wont. I will be informed within a week where I shall call of you one by one into my office to discuss further details. For now, this meeting will come to a close. With the final word being spoken, and not much hope amongst the employees, everyone slowly made their way out of the meeting room and back to collect their possessions to head on home.

Chapter 2 The Decision

The minute Zoe Trevena found out that her job was on the line it became aware to her somehow she would have to try and find a back up job in case she wasnt to be taken on at any of the other schools that was considering her application, thats if she wanted to remain living in Exeter. Residing in the city from the age of 18 when she began to attend University, she quite enjoyed the city life compared to her beginnings in the rural county of Wiltshire, where for 14 years her Father had home schooled her whilst her mother attended to the housework, taught Zoe various skills such as sewing and knitting, and ran a small shop in the village where she grew up. The problem was due to the countrys economic difficulties not many jobs within the city were available, so therefore Zoe would have to search further out. Hopefully one of the schools would take her on, having excelled well in her academic life such as receiving a Joint Honours Degree in English & Drama, alongside having a good in-depth knowledge in many fields were assure her a job somehow. But only time could tell. Returning to work the following Monday wasnt much help either. Over the weekend all parents had received letters explaining to them about the school closure and the procedures taking place in order for their childrens education to continue; however, this wasnt explained fully and at the same time many parents felt, alongside staff, that the notification was told quite late, meaning that it was going to be difficult to organise events, purchase new school uniform and so on. Pupils of Year 9 and 10 were going to find the transition the most difficult, as some students of Year 9 will have to pick different option subjects and pupils of Year 10 might follow a different exam board and syllabus for some of their subjects, allowing some of the information that they had already learned to become pointless. Although these werent the only other years in trouble, some of the Year 11 pupils had chosen and had been accepted into the schools sixth-form college providing that they receive the grades in their exams, which they wouldnt find out until the end of August, meaning them and the current year 12 pupils would have to also be located to different sixth-forms and colleges in the local area. So of course many students needed reassuring exactly how the transition will work. Alongside this problem Zoe had to run through the final preparations and rehearsals for the school production of We Will Rock You, and the thoughts of a possible job loss on her mind. So by the following Thursday she was ready to give up on life, as her stress metre had just accelerated its boundaries. Thankfully the production went well, and all parents and staff who attended were delighted to see the children perform so well. As of this time Zoe hadnt heard anything about the status of her job and started to become incredibly anxious. The day after saw her mood heading south as anxiety steadily increased. The morning being dull finishing writing up the final reports of the year for her Year 8 pupils, before teaching two blocks of English for Years 7 and 9 before finishing around 12:15 for her lunch break, of what was to be, as Fridays she was on duty sending in the first two years into the canteen for lunch. So by 12:40 she was lucky to be slightly at ease eating a tuna and mayonnaise sandwich accompanied with a Nature Valley Bar, a hot cup of Black Coffee with two sugars and the latest issue of NME. A thought popping

into her brain about her final class of the day at last period she wondered when was she going to receive the news about her position. Returning back to her classroom of 104 opening up the stock room to collect the copies of Wuthering Heights a knock came at the door from Tamara asking to her to immediately report to Professor Johnstones office for an urgent meeting. Slipping into Professor Johnstones office Zoe felt nauseous and tensed up about the out coming result. Zoe, a charmed smile approached as he greeted her into the office. Alright, whats the result Johnstone? came a tense reply. When she was waiting for something to happen, she never fancied the thought of the messenger taking their time to let the cat out of the bag, and broke out into a sudden, deep anger, hoping that the realisation and frustration of her inner self would get the better of them, making them answer quickly. You know you can call me Henry, Miss Trevena. By the look of things, Johnstone never took Zoes word, and breaking out into sarcasm wasnt going to make things any better, so she tried harder, making her voice pronounce her words almost too deep of a tone to be coming from a female. Look, can we just please get this thing over with before I break something in frustration and desperation!! Zoe scoffed as she took the remaining chair situated by the sturdy, wooden desk by the handles, showing threat through her ocean blue eyes, turning ice cold, and aimed the chair toward the window. Zoe! Put the chair down! Fine, lets get down to business then! Before the school, which was already in enough debt as the country was, would cripple even further through the payments of a new window through being smashed by a quick-tempered, young adult, Johnstone hurdled the desk and gently dropped the chair from Zoes sturdy hands, and positioned her in the furniture, quickly returning to his own. Each of the schools have looked and considered your application, as Im sure you are aware only 3 of the 5 English teaching employees here can be transferred on; and Im sorry to say but you are not one of those 3 Zoe froze, her mouth forming a huge O shape as she constantly stared out into space, the shock turning quickly into anger. Zoe, you know how I dont like giving bad news but you werent selected due to your lack of experience in the field of teaching. Zoes face soon turned sour. Lack of experience, Im the only one who was educated at home for 14 years and being at the prior age of 24 the only experience Ive had is work experience during University and this, how much were they exactly expecting from a 24-year old, a Nobel Peace prize and the bloody key to Buckingham Palace!!! Also you know deep down that Im the best bloody English and Drama teacher youve had in years! So who the hell did they pick? Miss Trevena, I can see your upset, well no, distressed would be a better word to use; although, surely there is a job of some sort to keep you going for the time being? Oh, and they picked Kelly, George and Victoria, you and Jaime had to be let go. Kelly? Kelly Lloyd-Holmes? Shes only been here four months and they picked her? Apparently she has potential according to Matford High. Zoe had soon

dropped the subject, and had gone back to thinking of how she would try and get a new job to pay the bills and such. Although Zoe began to respond, going back to Wiltshire might be the best solution, since as there is very little work around here in Devonshire, and I might as well go back home and help mother in the shop, thats if she still works there. By now, still very much distressed, Zoes stress metre began to plummet down, speaking in a much softer tone, allowing the atmosphere to become much calmer. You do know youll get redundancy money, and at the same time returning to Wiltshire might do you some good, according to your horoscope good things should be heading your way, minus this of course. You are an Aquarius arent you? Zoe looked puzzled as Professor Johnstone had suddenly, like he often does, changes the subject from the ghastly news just been given to the more uplifting talk of horoscopes, not that Zoe actually believed in them but for the time being she was prepared to listen. Yes, Im an Aquarius. Why, what is it this time? How could a horoscope be truthful on good events if shes just been made redundant? Apparently youll seek a new life where you are to move on and a new romantic interest will come your way. Looking at the slightest, if not half pleased Zoe turned her head and silently made her way out the door and back up to the room, thinking exactly how would a horoscope reading from the local newspaper change her life all of a sudden and make everything somewhat better. Returning out of Johnstones office, Tamara came out from her desk and by the expression on Zoes face, she knew the news was unfortunate, and pulled her into a tight embrace, soaking up Zoes emotions at the same time including her own. Tammy, whats going to happen? I dont know, for me Im going home, Ive got an interview next Tuesday to work as a receptionist for a doctors surgery. For a few minutes, they just stood there tangled, their souls pouring out every emotion deep inside them. For Tamara Hughes, home was Eastbourne, East Sussex. Born to a Australian Mother and a Welsh Father, she was raised in East Sussex until the age of 19, when she moved to Exeter to study Languages, learning Portuguese, Spanish, French, German and Chinese, and already knowing Welsh through her father, hoping at some point she would become a translator working in some tourist area for different groups of people. This is where she and Zoe met. Although taking different courses, they ended up as Roommates in their house they were renting, alongside four other people called Fiona McGann, Jennie Taylor, Liam Jones and Kenny Sutherland. After getting her degree at 22, she hoped to get a job as a translator, nothing came for her, so thanks to Zoe she managed to get herself a job as Henry Johnstones personal secretary, and now at the age of 25, nearly 26, she would have to find a new job elsewhere, and for her the first place to search was home.

Chapter 3 Some Motherly Advice Collecting the final few possessions and gently placing them into her car she looked back upon the school she thought she might have gone on working for at least more than a year and felt a single tear trace down her left, pale cheek as she slumbered into the drivers seat of her basic black luxury that she barely afford to keep hold of. From there she headed northwest of Exeter into Exwick where her semi-detached, twobedroom house lay, saying goodbye to the occupation shed longed to achieve. Pulling her small set of keys out from her bag and sliding the silver metal into the keyhole of the black coated wooden door, it took her a while to slide it half way open to allow herself into the warm aroma of her own home, embracing the smell of partially fresh baked bread that shed made two days before. Knowing the slight difficulty of opening the tall object, she knew that something, or some things stood the opposite side. Pulling the door shut she noticed beneath on the familiar welcome mat an endless pile of cards and small packages that had been shoved through the letterbox by the postman earlier that day. She only found out less than a week ago that she had been made redundant, so it was quite shocking to find the amount of mail at the foot of the door, knowing that somewhere along the lines there had been gossiping. So, dropping her handbag onto the sofa, she made her way back to the entrance to gather the mail, and empty her car before settling down to her evening meal. After eating a decently cooked meal of Irish stew with a slice of bread shed made, she settled down in the plush, leather armchair, resting her feet on the matching ottoman as she began to open the cards and packages left for her in condolences of her becoming redundant. One thing Zoe needed right now was advice, at 24 years of age with no job, no other source of income and no romantic interest who else would be better than to phone, not writing a letter, that would take too long, than her mother Mary Trevena. Obviously other than her mother she could of gone to her father, but he wasnt available to deal with her dilemma. Chatting quietly with Mary on the phone to avoid disturbing the neighbours as they loved utter silence, Zoe politely asked her mother for advice on where to go. I heard that your workplace was closing Zoe, but to see you lose out on the job compared to those utter knuckleheads Id thought theyd of chosen you. Nevertheless, you know theres always something goin on down here in the old West Country, and where better to live other than Wiltshire, I mean, you did well the first eighteen years of your life, right. Ill let you know if something comes up. Listening away, Zoe replied, If something comes up? What about the shop youve run for all these years, surely I could hitch there for a while before something decent comes up, no offence! Mary seemed at slight guilt at the other end of the receiver when she responded with that she no longer ran the shop from the continuing development of her illness, which of no name was mentioned, alongside not mentioning the affects of her illness, which in the end like her father, would fully intake her and shed die. She thought shed better keep this to herself whilst her only daughter was already in distress, and not make matters worse. God she longed for her husband Charles to return from the underworld and come up with one of his iconic plans to sort matters out, but she knew with his long history of Leukaemia that hed been suffering from the age of nine she

thought at least he is safe amongst Jesus and the heroes who died in battle during the First and Second World Wars.

A few weeks had passed and hazy humid weather of August drifted into the house of 21 Canterbury Avenue when the post was shoved through the letterbox as always, carelessly dropping to the cushioned landing of the welcome mat sitting at the foot of the door. Zoe was still lying in bed as she turned to glance at her alarm clock, hearing the sound of the post. 9:41 the clock read, or so as she could faintly see, herself still half asleep. Casually slipping out of bed and into her turquoise blue matching fluffy slippers and silk dressing gown she strolled lazily downstairs to where the post lay. Skipping through the rather boring advertisements in the form of leaflets and bills, her pupils instantly dilated, blocking out the deep aqua irises as she studied the handwritten calligraphy on the crystal white envelope. Instantly recognising the handwriting, she tore the barrier open with her letter opener, carefully not trying to damage the contents inside, and began to read the handwritten note from Mary. Skipping past the general discussion she reached the part on the seeking of a job, which with her 4 already previous attempts, hoped that this one wouldnt tally the current total of misfortunes to 5. Asking her precisely to return home to Tisbury, Wiltshire on Friday 17th August 1986, she would be interviewed by Mr Bartholomew (Bart) Wilson in her mothers house, how convenient, she thought, as she continued to read the remainder of the three pages her mother had sent. Noticing the word precisely arrive in the muddled brain of hers brought up the idea that her mother meant that this is the only thing going at the moment so dont screw it up, in other words youve got no choice but to arrive at Tisbury station on 17th August, stay for the weekend and accept this job no matter what the circumstances are. With this in mind as she was now fully aware that the current date was Monday 13th August shed got four days before shed be making her first footprint into the Wiltshire soil in 6 years, something she didnt really consider to think of remembering. So with no excuse currently in her path she whisked herself away up the stairs to find her suitcase to begin packing. A job is a job right? As for Tamara on the other hand, she never received the job as a receptionist in the doctors surgery. Although, instead, she managed to find herself a job as a tour guide at the Hastings battlefields, where she would guide various groups around the historic area, and from this she would leaving at the end of August, returning to Eastbourne to live with her parents, before going in for a house and hopefully be able to settle down and have a family. Due to her departure and Carl not being in any position to move from Devon, the affair was called off, which left a very depressive but eager Tammy.

Chapter 4 A Weekend in Wiltshire The train now arriving at Platform 3 is the 08:26 South West train to London Waterloo , read the Intercom as Zoe patiently stood on that platform waiting for the train of four carriages to roll in to the station, coffee cup in one hand, suitcase in the other and her handbag edging to stay fixed on her left shoulder. Her presumption of the carriages not looking too brilliant went down well, as the seats were worn and the inner carriage welcomed a rather unpleasant smell as she boarded the train. Despite the thoughts that popped up in her brain her journey of an hour and thirty-five minutes was not going to go any quicker than she had preferred so she had better make herself comfortable while carriage C was still rather empty, so with that she took a seat towards the front of the carriage and slid out her copy of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen from her handbag which was perched on the other seat, keeping her train ticket within reach for when the inspector came down. A while later from the inspector checked her ticket, she quickly awoke from her midmorning nap as the book began to slip out of her fingers, the touch of the paper causing her gasp as she awoke to bright lights and many different signs on the walls of the carriage. Wondering whether she had missed her stop or not she turned to find someone to ask. Excuse me Sir, but you could you please tell me the last stop that we departed from and the next one we will be arriving at? The small, grey-haired fellow turned away from his newspaper, apparently reading The Independent, to respond. Of course Miss, weve not long departed from Yeovil Junction and the next stop is Sherborne, why, have you missed your stop miss? Zoe hadnt a clue where Yeovil was, as Geography was never her strongest subject, and hadnt been on a train in over four years. Im not sure, I need to get off at Tisbury, she faintly replied as her face quickly changed from a keen positive smile to a rather shaky still one. Oh dont worry Miss, we havent reached your stop quite yet, although were not too far from it, the elderly gentlemen replied as he turned back to read the newspaper. Thank you, Zoe reassuringly replied as she continued from page 112 of her novel. Welcome aboard the 8:26 South West train from Exeter St. Davids to London Waterloo, we hope you enjoy your journey with us, our current stop is Gillingham and the next stop will be Tisbury, a presumably youngish man spoke over the Intercom as the train began to depart from Gillingham station. By now Zoe was sure definite that she was right where she needed to be at the time and hoped that this tiring journey would not be at the slightest pointless. With the ensuring news shed just been given she started to pack away her belongings and carry her rubbish which consisted of her coffee cup and a Twix bar that shed bought whilst she was in Exeter. Not long after the train arrived at Tisbury she stepped off to take a quick look at the close up surroundings, lugging her suitcase in her right-hand and her handbag over her left shoulder. Six years and not a thing changed, she muttered mutely as she strode the distance out of the station onto the main road, expecting to see a young chap around her age, although slightly older. This was to be her former neighbour Timothy Clayton, a bloke at what shed last seen him at around 6 feet tall with straight blondish hair that was quite floppy and was at chin length. Hopefully he hadnt changed much, she thought, as it would be harder to recognise him. At the

same time she hoped that he could recognise her, as she had gone through some changes since they last spoke with one another, more predominantly her height, being around about 5 feet 5 inches and now being around 5 feet 9, other than that not much else had changed. As she turned around in both directions to look for Timothy, he noticed a tallish young girl with a suitcase looking in all directions, her long wavy ginger hair swaying around with the breeze she was creating, alongside the small faint gusts of wind. Zoe!!! Timothy was a high as a kite when he called to her, being able to see one of his only few friends for the first time in what felt like centuries. Tim!! she cried back as she darted closer to him, pulling him into a tight embrace allowing her suitcase to casually drop to the cobblestoned road beneath them. Following the warm embrace he took her suitcase to place hurriedly into the boot of the car as they both climbed in and set off back home. About 10 minutes later they arrived at the cottage where Zoe grew up. Situated on a steady hill overlooking their small farm and many other fields, she smiled when she arrived. Eyes glanced across the structure as she saw the Fuchsia roses twine with each other as they travelled upwards across the left side of the house, the right containing small plants of all sorts beneath the large bay window and the same old oak door standing there in the centre. She gently knocked her door as her mother caught the sight of the car from the kitchen and leapt to the front of the house, which she shouldnt be doing due to her aching joints, but once wasnt going to hurt as she opened her door and grabbed Zoe into a hug. Lost for words, Zoe just went with the flow and casually plodded in soon afterwards. So, whens this Bart arriving? Zoe having no time to spare quickly flopped down onto the small sofa in front of one of many paintings hung up around the house, this one being of a fruit basket. Hes already here, hes just nipped upstairs to the loo as I was just gathering out plates for lunch, were having Leek and Potato soup. Tim, you can stay if you wish and as you for Zoe you can talk to Bart about this job Ive more or less got you over dinner. Thanks, came an enthusiastic reply from Tim as he kindly took Zoes possessions upstairs to her room as Bartholomew came down them, trying not to collide with one another. Before Bart managed to get to the foot of the stairs and into the front passage Mary was going through the basic checks of a positive interview as if Zoe hadnt been through this before. Within her 24 years of life shes already had to face an interview for getting into university as well as the interview for her first job as a Waitress in some small restaurant whilst studying in Exeter as well as her first teaching job just over a year ago, so Zoe felt as if she was being nurtured into something she was more than capable of doing, trying to tell her mother that everything was all fine, even if her mother had that tense look in her eye exposing danger. As Bartholomew Wilson returned to the front room Zoe looked pleased to see him, at the same time hoping she could impress him, as she desperately needed a job to continue with life well, she needed more things than that, but a job was the first on top of her list for Ways to survive when youre 24 and skint. Bartholomew Wilson please let me introduce you to my daughter Zoe Trevena. Its a pleasure to meet you, Mr Wilson, Zoe soon replied.

Call me Bart, please. Bart commented with a wide grin as they all stood in the centre of the front room, Tim soon joining them. She looks just like you, dark blue eyes, quite tall for her age and not too thin, pale with freckles all over her face, what are you, around nearly 6 feet tall and about 25? Bart continued. At the same time of his observance Zoe copied his actions. Dark haired, quite pale and small for his height, around 5 foot 8. Aging quite a bit and hes quite plump, so Id say around early fifties. Quite well dressed so he seems pretty well off, so he must make a decent profit from the produce they sell. After a few minutes Zoe carelessly opens her mouth to return with an answer to his question. Erm almost. Im 24 and a half and I are 5 foot 9. Obviously the main difference is the fact I have ginger hair whilst my mother is mousy. She looked quite like her father as well; however like me he also wasnt ginger, he had dark brown hair, so dont ask me where she got it from, Mary quickly butted in. Oh, I thought she might have dyed it, you know, like many of the youth do nowadays. Of course I havent dyed it, look at the eyebrows, the colours clearly match! Zoe replied in sincerely as he stumbled closer to her, noticing the exact match. Oh, quite correct you are, I do apologize. Lunch shall we, Tim awkwardly spluttered out as he felt the traces of the soup becoming cold. Mary, Bart, Zoe and Tim all sat down to an irresistible meal of Leek and Potato Soup as the broad daylight sunshine drew in to the dining room, heating up the already warm atmosphere of temperatures exceeding 22C. So, how do you feel about working on a farm then, Zoe? Barts eyes met with Zoes as he spoke. Well, working on a farm was not exactly my picture of a living, although to me a job is a job Bart, I dont mind what I do, as long as its something Im capable of and something productive. Bart looked astonished at her answer. In his endless bucket of thoughts her imagined Zoe to be more of an office type, inner city worker. Someone who was in no shape of form to be getting there hands dirty. Mary on other hand took Zoes word as a blessing, finally hoping that this could give her a more than decent living, and she would be doing something instead of sitting around and not bothering like many of the people out of work. Of course it will be productive, I think itll be best, judging by what your mother has already told me, for you to be in the kitchen cooking the meals for us whilst we work outdoors, of course youll do other things as well, and Im sure youll get on well with Julia, Mark, Gavin and my wife Verity. Mary knew about Zoes previous work as a Waitress, already having the experience in the culinary department, and at the same time used to cook meals for the homeless on a Sunday for the homeless back in Exeter under her small community group. Of course, I dont mind what I do, and yes, I can cook allsorts. My mother taught me lots and living in Exeter for 6 years taught me much more. Im guessing Mark, Gavin and Julia are the farmhands, am I right? The conversation was clearly going well and it looked as if shed finally got herself a job. Yes, they are the farmhands. Gavin is engaged to Julia, which they should be married within 6 months, if they ever decide on a date and Mark has a girlfriend, so

Im sorry if you were looking for romance. Are you happy to start within a month? So much for that damn Horoscope Professor Johnstone had told her! Well, the house should sell quickly as its been up for sale now for a week now so as soon as its sold then I can drive up with my possessions. Where is the farm situated? Minus the romance part, seriously, Zoe could do with a friend right about now and couldnt have Tim due to him already being attached, Zoe was happy for once. The farm is in Baverstock, not too far from here its called Orderton Penrose Farm, due to the lane attaching to it being called Orderton Penrose Lane. Good, could you give me the address, I assure you Ill make a fascinating and interesting farmhand. Of course, Ill write the address down for you before I head off. Not long after having an interesting conversation about Zoes life in Exeter and how Tim is enjoying life with his new partner, despite the on-going insults he receives due to him not being heterosexual, alongside Marys life here alone and Barts success on the farm and other domestic things, Bart soon left the cottage as Mary showed him the door, remembering to write out the address for Zoe and left it on the coffee table in the front, as Zoe and Tim were upstairs unpacking. Bart, please do this for me. She put her hands in his giving them a gentle squeeze, which he didnt mind, as theyd known each other since they were kids. Please, make sure she grows up to be a good, hard working young woman and get her to find a bloke as after this weekend itll probably be the last time she will see me and you know why, Mary continued as she broke down in tears allowing Bart to hug her. I will, Im not sure about the bloke thing, I dont think Andrew will suit her well, who knows, she might meet someone. Im sorry about your suffering of Cancer, you know I love you and have done for years, youre my best friend who knows me better than anyone, minus my wife of course. Please dont die! Bart began to break down as they clenched each other tightly I dont want to, but it happens. We all die one day or another, just at different times. Unfortunately for me its going to take me quite young, please dont tell Zoe when Im gone. Shes suffered from enough these last two years. I, I fine I wont tell her. Shell probably find out anyway though. Bart commented as he strode towards his vehicle. Just as he about to climb in Mary shouted but Bart was too quick for words and closed the drivers side door By the way, who is Andrew?

Chapter 5 Goodbye Exwick For the remainder of the weekend that Zoe had spent in Tisbury she had mainly gone out to visit old friends that she grew up with, such as Janice Windsor and Colin Northwood, as well as Tim and his partner Rob, who were all tutored by Zoes father when they were children, giving them a surprise that she was intending to return to Wiltshire again after 6 years due to losing her job. Many, including the four former classmates, were surprised to hear that she wasnt taken on back in Devon but nonetheless they told her that she had her whole life ahead of her. Another place which she intended on visiting was the old shop that her mother used to work in, where she passed by on the Saturday morning and decided to voluntarily help Mrs Fisher out for the few hours that it was open for, stacking shelves and dealing with customers. By doing this it would give that last bit of experience before taking on the fields and kitchens. Mrs Fisher responded in the same way over the her job loss as everyone else had, and told her Its not the end of the world. For once in her life she started to believe in people, and felt that taking on the job back here would be her only and final option to gain something out of her life, other than that then what was the point of living? Now back in Exwick, Zoe had many things to do before leaving for Baverstock, such as packing her possessions and paying a visit to her friends. She went out to buy boxes to pack possessions, which included her tape cassettes and her certificate for her degree alongside her photo albums. Whilst packing the third box she received a phone call about a couple that were interested in buying the house, so dropping what she was doing, she arranged a day for when the couple could come to take a look at the house, which would be the day after for about midday. A week had passed and many various individuals had come to view the property that was up for sale. In the end a newly retired couple from the East Midlands bought the house for far more than it was actually worth. Oddly enough despite the recession many people from across the country were looking to live somewhere in Devon and Exwick was a quite a popular location for property buying. On the whole though, Zoe was happy. The horoscope that Professor Johnstone had read out to her seemed to be more than true, well, for the fact that good luck was within her reach. She now had a job and her house had been bought so all was good. All but a few of the boxes had been filled with various items, so knowing that everything was going to plan, she wrote a letter to her mother as well as Bartholomew Wilson about the preparations of coming to Baverstock to begin a new life. Her mood improved further by a surprise party that her mates, well her former work colleagues had put together on the Friday Night of that week. Once she returned to Exwick she phoned Tamara, her only true friend about her receiving the job. As a result Tamara notified everyone who worked alongside Zoe and called them to the party held at the local pub to say goodbye and good luck to Zoe, as well as to everyone else who had either got new jobs or were leaving the area, such as Tamara herself who would be leaving on the Sunday morning to begin work the day after. Arriving at the Black Swan pub hearing the music pumping its way through the brick walls, she strode her way into the building as if she was some fashion model strutting

their way down the catwalk, and took to the bar, where she found many of her former colleagues already ordering their first or maybe second drinks. If the clock positioned on the outer wall above the entrance said 7:20pm, how much exactly were people intending on drinking? Sitting on a barstool Tamara came from behind and asked how she was, and to give her details on the job, which led to major conversation, and a few drinks. Tamara asked her where Carl was, as he usually accompanied her to outgoings and such, and replied that he had walked out on her, as he wasnt moving out of Devon, but not to fear as she had a new boyfriend called Bradley, who would be moving with her, as he wished to start a life of his own. Tamara pointed in the direction towards the dartboard where a group of lads were having a game and whispered to her The Blonde One. Well, with the lighting in the pub, Bradleys hair looked more of a ginger. Strawberry blonde. Tamara called him over to introduce to the fella to Zoe, who was gazing at the other lads playing darts. Zo, this is Bradley. A pleasure to meet you, Bradley gave a faint smile and took his arm out to shake hands in gratitude, his eyes glancing back towards the game where his pals were continuing on. Evening, holds onarent you Bradley Tomlinson who went to Exeter University? Im sure you were the head of the Student Union and were the chair of the Drama Community. Ha, so Im still recognisable after all these years. I thought the hairdo and physique would have changed it. But yeah, quite right you are. You were also in the Drama Community, you were vice-chair? Nope, you still look the same to me, minus the hairdo, which isnt as wacky as it was back then, thankfully, and yes, youre on a roll tonight! Good, well its nice to see you again, oh hold on, its my go on the darts, catch you later. Bradley gave a salute to Zoe, before giving a quick peck to Tamara before picking up his pint of lager and joining the lads, who were from his theatre group. Bradley, from Zoes point of view, had an incredible physique, back then and still six years on. Nowadays he sported himself with floppy Strawberry Blonde hair, shirts of different colours with jumpers and denim jeans, but never knew of any romantic relation to Tamara. According to what she had just about heard over the blasting music of Tainted Love, the lovebirds had been going out for a while, so whether Tamara had been cheating on Carl or vice versa who knows, but that relationship was for one unhealthy. Bradley had belonged previously to the Exeter Theatre Group whilst studying to become an actor, but had decided to move to the south east of the country to try and make it somewhere, so they transferred him to a theatre company in London, meaning it would only be about an hour or so from Eastbourne. Originally when both Tamara and Zoe lost their jobs, Tamara was going to live with her parents, thankfully due to finding Bradley, he already has his own house in Eastbourne, and therefore will be moving in with him as of Sunday. Tamara went off to speak to some of the other guests, leaving Zoe on her own, but not for too long. Well, what did I tell you about that horoscope Zoe? I knew good things would happen, Professor Johnstone ambiguously chatted to her at the bar whilst she was randomly dancing with a coke and vodka to Stayin Alive by the Bee Gees, now partially tipsy. Yeah, I guess youre right, minus the boyfriend part.

Oh, no Mr Squeeze yet then? Johnstone kept on rambling to her. No, not yet, although them lads over there look rather delicious. Any new horoscopes to look forward to? Erm... a partner will come but watch your back with others, new faces might not take you too kindly. Oh, thanks for the advice Zoe partied herself away towards the bigger crowd near the DJ booth. She knew that she couldnt drink too much as she had to drive back to the house and then drive the distance of Devon to Wiltshire in the morning, leaving Devon for good. So with that she lived on Coke and Lemonade for the remainder of the night. Before exiting the pub and leaving her former colleagues for the final time some of her friends and herself made some speeches about how wonderful the current year had been meeting her friends, and then decided to have the last dance, as Tamara was already drunk and Bradley has requested someone to video-tape the bad dancing so that he could place it onto VHS later for memories, he made Tamara and Zoe dance to Take My Breath Away, whilst he drunkenly danced with his mate Tom, before the landlord announced the closure of the pub. Zoe stumbled into her home around 1am in the morning, feeling quite light-headed and unsteady on feet. Instead of her brewing her usual mug of Ovaltine to leave at her bedside for during the night, she settled for a black coffee with no sugar to try and sober up before her major journey tomorrow morning, heading up the stairs slowly to bed. Ah, what the heck is that noise, make it stop!!! Zoe shouted to herself as her alarm went off. She slowly turned to look at the time, which read 5:15am. She thought to herself, Destination Day. She quickly awoke, showered and freshened up, thankfully without a hangover, and quickly made herself a small breakfast of bread and jam with a mug of tea, before packing the last of the items into the boxes and bags by the front door. By now the time had reached 7am and the lorry from the local furniture store had come to remove Zoes unwanted furniture, in this case, all of it. With the furniture removed, all Zoe had to do was place the boxes and bags into her car and give the keys to the estate agents, before setting off from Exwick on the 2-hour journey to Baverstock. By 9am the Estate Agents had received the keys from Zoe and the final paperwork had been completed, the money Zoe had received had gone straight into her bank account, which all the details from everywhere her name was under had to have her details changed. So, with everything completed, Zoe quickly walked back to the car park, into her car to start the engine and headed northwards towards the M5 motorway, her whole life ahead of her, well as so as she thought. Before heading off, she quickly made a round trip up to Tamaras where she said her goodbyes to Tammy and Bradley, who insisted on her staying for a proper breakfast, as to anyone would say a proper breakfast is a Full English Breakfast, but with other priorities on her mind, she politely withdrew, receiving warm hearted hugs and kisses before climbing back in the mobile and heading for the motorway.

Chapter 6 Introductions

About half an hour later whilst driving down the M5 and listening to BBC Radio 1, she realised she hadnt got enough Petrol to last her the entire journey, nor she wouldnt have had any drinks since 7am this morning, which would make her pretty drowsy and didnt want any accidents to occur, so before she would leave Junction 25 she would stop at the nearby service station. At the same time, stopping at the service station would give her an excuse to call Bart to let him know that she was about an hour and 30 minutes away from Baverstock. Sipping her hot cup of tea in the caf, reading a copy of the local newspaper, before taking a bite of her chocolate chip muffin, she hoped she wouldnt have to do much work once she had arrived there, in fact, a nice afternoon slumber would do nicely. Suddenly changing from the inside world of a classroom teacher to the muddy fields, she would have to get used to the transition and classification of change; and of course she would have to change her current attire, dressed in her old comfy blue denim jeans, a basic T-Shirt and boots, she would want to at least freshen up and have eaten a near-enough decent meal before doing any work, especially after her journey. Noticing a telephone near the entrance from her position in the caf, Zoe hurriedly finished her tea before gathering her belongings together and making her way awkwardly, due to now needing the loo, over to the telephone. Trying to keep herself together, she picked up the receiver as she dialled the number and slipped in the required change through the small hole, giving her just under two minutes to quickly speak to Bart or whoever was at the other end of the line. Orderton Penrose Farm, how may I help you, a posh feminine voice spoke out as she listened in for an answer. Hello, this is Zoe Trevena, can I speak to Bart please? Giving her details over, the woman, who in this case was Verity, soon knew who the dialler was. Oh. Zoe, hello! I heard you were to start working here today. Im Verity, Barts wife. He isnt available right now, as hes just popped to the market to collect some seeds to plant later during the week. Can I take a message? Zoe thought that Verity sure had enough to say, were people always this chatty? Yes, its just to say that Im in Taunton at the moment and Ill be up at the farm in just over an hour time. She estimated the remainder of the journey would be an hour, due to no current traffic jams near the service station, peering through the windows to the left of her, but couldnt be certain on further collisions ahead. Oh good, Julia is cooking lunch. Fishermans Pie alright for you, we can cook something different if you would like? Hmm, Zoe thought that today might be a nice day off considering that lunch was already being prepared. No, Fishermans Pie will be fine, I need to go now though, Ill see you and everyone else later Alright then, Goodbye Miss Trevena. The line went dead just in time for Zoe to quickly run into the ladies toilets before popping into the shop for some drinks that she might need for the remainder of the journey. Quite frankly Zoe wasnt too keen on Fishermans Pie; however, the seconds

remaining for the call allowed were quickly ticking away and Zoe hadnt got any more spare change, so she would have to make do with whatever she was served with. After a quick dash to the toilets she took the car to the station to fill the tank up, before heading back onto the M5 up toward Baverstock. Driving into Baverstock she saw nothing other than fields, and had to try and use the view ahead of her to entertain herself, as the signal for the radio had long dropped. Using her A-Z as a guide for directions, alongside the directions that Bart had sent her earlier in the week for guidance, Zoe somewhat thought at this moment she was lost, nevertheless she kept on driving anyway. She thought as she turned a few corners trying to look to for a road sign for the farm that too bad someone hadnt come up with the idea of a sort of machine where it tells you the direction you would like to go to reach your required destination. A few minutes later, panic over as she noticed a small brown sign containing an arrow directing her left off the road, reading Orderton Penrose Farm, past a large wooden gate and into the driveway near the front of the farmhouse, with a red tractor located on the right side of the driveway surrounded by a smaller wooden gate which presumably led to the farm and from what she could see in the near distance, an orchard, which she hopefully would have time later to investigate. The house itself looked a little like her mothers, only this was much older, judging by the detail of the materials used to build the house and much bigger, the house would have probably been used for around 100 years at least. The smell of the Fishermans Pie, which actually for once attracted Zoes attention, diverted her to the back of the house, where a narrow brown door was located, which led into the kitchen. She stumbled up the few steps into the small kitchen, which consisted of a fridge, a couple of cupboards, a small table in the middle, where vegetables and other produce lay, probably going to be used for the evening meal, many counters and an old stove. Hello, anyone at home at all? Or have you all gone out? Zoe called out as she wondered if anyone was currently in the building, or whether they were all outside working as the almost readymade pie lay in the bottom of the oven, starting to brown over. A young female, couldnt be much older than herself, approached the kitchen with a tea towel on her right shoulder quickly approaching the oven to take the pie dish out. Im guessing youre Julia then? Julia continued her work, Zoes approach of conversation unnoticed. She placed the boiling Pyrex dish onto the counter beside the oven, and turned her back toward the dish, when a ginger haired figure, much taller than her, stood puzzled as to why no response was given. Oh, sorry, didnt see you there. Yes, Im Julia. Julia Clarke; and Im guessing youre Zoe Trevena then? Zoe didnt take Julias response too fondly, were she already invisible the minute she arrived, a faint ghost just passing through and would have to rub up and get to know them to become a transparent object? How could you not see me? I was standing directly near the counter right by the oven! Anyway, yes Im Zoe. The banter between the two females wasnt taking a positive turn, and Julia gave a light shove into Zoe as she strode past her towards the utensils.

Hold on a second would you? Julia gave a sharp response before placing the pie dish onto the table, grabbing the two lots of plates before dashing out of the back door and down into the fields. As her face followed Julias actions she glanced out of the window, where she saw a large picnic table. How didnt she discover this, she usually saw everything in her path, maybe she was more interested in getting settled first than to observe at the small details of the farm. Not knowing where to go she just stood against the counter looking at the small figures climbing up the hills toward the house, hopefully the remainder of the household were much friendlier than the first impression of Julia. Within a few minutes everyone was up at the picnic table, where Julia called her and asked Zoe to bring out the plates and cutlery whilst she would bring the dish and utensils to serve the pie. As Zoe strode towards the table, she used her skills and began to observe people, including Bart himself, whod recently got back from the market, which he looked much older than when shed last met him. As she gave out the plates to one another, she took her seat opposite no one as Julia served out the meal, even though there was another plate opposite her, which meant an extra person was needed to make the household complete. Julia sat across from her next to a near young looking fellow with straight and short black hair with bulging brown eyes, who looked enthusiastic enough to meet Zoe but happy enough to be with Julia, ah, she realised that must be Julias fianc Gavin. Judging by appearances romance wasnt Zoes ultimate key at the moment, as Gavin didnt look too attractive but he seemed well enough for Julia, who had mousy, shoulder length straight hair with what looked like faint blue eyes and was quite skinny, likewise with Gavin. From there her eyes took a diversion to the man sitting next to her, who would obviously be Mark. He looked quite tall, due to having long legs, with chocolate brown and also bulging brown eyes, only his were much darker than Gavins, who actually looked more friendly than the others. Verity, compared to the others looked much more stern, having a sharp, thin face and a frail body, heavily dressed in baggy clothing to try to make herself look plumper. Her hair was edging on for a silvery shade as the remainder of the blonde highlights were fading. They were all quietly chatting when Bart spat out in disgust Wheres Andrew? Hes on his way up Bart, hes finishing off in the orchard, Gavin recalled, eyes entertainingly focused on Julia. Andrew, who the heck is Andrew? Zoe pondered, quickly concluding to herself that he also must be a new employee. He better not eating them bloody apples again, remember last years incident!! Bart continued, his expressions turning much bleaker. Oh god! Must you go on about that again? We know that we had a shortage of apples last summer, so we couldnt sell as much produce but seriously, we have a new guest with us, so lets take things forward, Mark half-commented as he was stuffing pie down his throat. How revolting, Zoe thought. As the remainder of the table silently got down to business eating their lunch, a young man approached from the hill as the pupils of Zoes eyes instantly dilated upon his appearance, herself trying to focus on the helping of food in front of her as some of the Parsley Sauce drooped down the side of the face, causing herself to flush in embarrassment. She never usually laid eyes upon a bloke before, giving her previous failed attempts, such as Travis from her English Lectures, and then there was Max

who she worked with when she was a waitress, but this time she couldnt help to resist. The fella, now sat in front of her, giving a wide grin to her most failed attempt of trying to eat without mucking up, handed her a napkin as he began to eat himself. The fella was around 6 feet tall, had a thin frame containing the features a long face, exposing the beauty of his high cheekbones, sea-green eyes and naturally curly/wavy hair. A red head, which Zoe beamed even further to now knowing she wasnt the only one around, and would both share the discrimination of being gingers, thats if the others didnt take that too kindly. As others began to make small talk, one of Zoes weaknesses, Zoe took a risk of talking to Andrew. Hi, Im Zoe, nice to Before Zoe could continue, Bart made a small speech on welcoming Zoe into the household as he introduced her to the remainder of the clan, minus Andrew, which Zoe grew a baffled look too. It was if he was a ghost as well, clearly not someone Bart particularly liked, and most certainly not a family member. Maybe he got a job on here just before she did. Maybe hes been here longer and was a child of a family friend, or neighbour, or was friendly with Barts kids, if he had any. As everyone began to clear up and begin with their afternoon chores, Zoe turned to locate her car to bring in her stash of various items, as Bart spoke a few discreet words with Andrew, which Andrew himself didnt take too kindly, and began to follow the young woman. Lifting her suitcase of clothes from the boot and grabbing the various boxes on the sides, a pale hand brushed her right shoulder. Hello, I Im sorry I couldnt speak earlier but Im Andrew, its nice to meet you, and ah, I was wondering if you might need some help, which Im guessing since He constantly stammered. He seemed nervous but also timid, like a small child would be going to school for the first day of their existence. Its ok, yes I could require some help, and its going to be a difficulty dragging everything up. Thank you, Andrew. Oh and by the looks of things you asked to help me werent you? Zoe opened her arm out to shake his unsteady own, as his face beamed with delight. Good, where shall I start? Oh and yes, I was asked, but thats fine, Id like to help you. Maybe I could show you around the farm as well. Zoe was initially going to look around the farm on her own, but then again likely case would be she would become lost, and she could always do with the company. You could take some of the boxes out of the back seat and bring them upstairs, its the third door on the left as Ive been told. Oh and yeah, Id be happy for you show around this place. Alright then, oh, youre next door to me then, well sort of, Im the first door by the stairs, and cool. Oh ok then, as they both led into the distance up the stairs to begin unpacking.

Chapter 7: The Farm Unlocking the door second from the stairs, Zoe pushed her way through to her new place of residence and placed the suitcase near the foot of the bed, as Andrew behind her placed the boxes near the window. Zoes room was adequate but needed work done on it, but now things should be fine, and she was concerned with actually finding a space for her possessions as well as settling in. About 10 minutes later all the belongings were in her room as she began to unpack, Andrew sorting through the boxes and asking where to place objects. Opening one of the boxes, he found a picture frame containing an image of herself as a child, seemed to look about 12 or so, with her two parents. Where would you like these photo frames to be hung or placed? Zoe dropped her grey jumper that she would to place in one of the draws and snatched the photo from Andrew. Sorry, Im a bit sentimental over that one. My father he died just a few years ago, great man he was. Taught me lots, lost his battle with leukaemia though. Im sorry if I hurt you, youre not injured are you? Andrew didnt take the snatch too kindly to begin with, but knowing the reason for the action after, he related it back to when he lost both of his parents and understood before continuing conversation. No, not hurt, but its okay. I understand. Whos the girl then in this other photo? Placing the first photo frame on the surface of the Chester Drawers she quickly spun back to his direction, not snatching the photo this time, talking about Tammy and the photo itself. This one was taken during their first year together at Exeter, when they went on a trip to London. Finally arranging the possessions out into her new home, she took in the scene. The double bed stood opposite the door, the Chester Drawers to the left, a mirror hanging above it near the two photo frames. Over on the right hand side was a desk and chair, and a bookshelf, which was now full of books of her favourites, such as Hard Times by Charles Dickens. Placing the key into the top drawer of the desk, she closed the door behind them, heading on down the stairs and out toward the back door, before being stopped by Verity. Andrew, please instead of the need for social interaction, please find something practical to do! Oh and Zoe, you should be getting on with work, tonights dinner isnt going to cook by itself. Andrew started to grow frustrated again of the way he was treated not just behind his back, but upfront as well. Zoe on the other hand, sighed that the first day wasnt going to be laid back. Of course, but Andrew was just taking me around the farm, so I know my way around the place. Dont worry he is causing no harm. Also, what am I to cook? Verity seemed relieved on Zoes reply before adding the final remark. Your choice. Use whatever is remaining in the cupboards, Andrew will fetch the new produce for you. Of course, Andrew giving a fake grin to Verity knowing his place and took Zoes arm, leading her out of the house and past the small wooden fence. Behind the fence was an average sized field, which led on to other fields. Towards the east lay the fields where crops were to be grown of all kinds, Potatoes, parsnips, peas and carrots, cabbages and so on. The field behind that was for types of fruit such as strawberries and blackberries. By the more eastern field lay a huge greenhouse, where

it was said that cucumbers, radishes and tomatoes were grown. Also in the easterly direction was the barn house. It seemed a bit strange to have the barn house right near the fields, but then again, it would easier to use the tools. Up in one of the fields she gave a small wave to Gavin who was presumably working, as they continued on their journey in the opposite direction. Heading west, Andrew walked her toward the stables, where two horses were going on with their daily business, as Mark was trying to clean out the stables. Oi! Back to work you! Mark bellowed as he was trying at his game. I am working idiot! Apparently all of the animals had been given names, but hadnt had the time to recite them all. Other than horses, a few hens were clucking away in the henhouse and the most western field on the farm contained a herd of sheep, which to Zoe felt like she was more in Wales than in Baverstock. There were no ponds on the farm, therefore containing no ducks. However, near the autumn wild ducks would fly over to a small nesting site about half a mile away. Of course, north of where they were standing, the farmhouse lay. Therefore, the only part to uncover was the South. This is where the orchard lay, where Andrew worked the majority of the time, if not taking produce to the barn to turn into juice, or taking produce up to the kitchens etc. So basically the majority of the work from what we can cover here is that Andrew did the majority of the work, and by the looks of things he had very little contact with the other farmhands. Inside the orchard grew apples of all sorts, as well as pears. Sitting in the shade under one of the pear trees, as both deserved a little time out, random conversation began to pass as they lay there. So, what do you do for fun? You seem to work a lot here, Zoe began. Not much, read books if I get bored, come to the orchard. Now it was Andrews turn, which never seemed to stop with the questions. What was life like back in Devon? Did you have friends? What was it like dealing with those pesky kids? I went out a bit, other than working of course. I did have a few friends; of course youve seen Tammy in the photo frame in my room. I first met her when I was 18, at university, and then there was lad called Bradley, nice bloke he is. Oddly enough they are now together and live in Eastbourne, in East Sussex. But the majority of my friends, as in the ones who stuck by me in the long run, live here. Theres Timothy Clayton, who lives in Tisbury with his partner Rob. Theres also Janice Windsor and Colin Northwood, who were my classmates when I was a child. Oh, hes queer is he? Well, yes you could say that. How long together? Not sure actually, never asked. So what school did you go to then? I was home schooled, what about you? Went to a school in Salisbury. Never went to university. What time is it? Its 3pm, we better get going in a few minutes. One more question and Ill shut up. When I came up here, as in back to Wiltshire because my mother sent me up after I lost my job, Bart mentioned everyone minus you. Are you a new recruit? If not then why did he fail to mention you?

Probably forgot, like he always does, oh and please do not shut up, I love to hear someone pleasantly appealing talk to me, its comforting, and Im as new as bark on trees. Cmon, Ill show back to the house. Andrew stumbled up onto his feet and reached out a hand for Zoe to grab onto, which she clasped, both slightly blushing over the warmth of the other companion, as he led her back to the farmhouse and into the kitchen as he fetched the produce.

Chapter 8 Andrew Thackeray Work was hard, much harder than Zoe initially thought. It had only reached Wednesday of the first week shed been there and the hours were taking its effect on her much more than shed expected. Socialisation was pretty complex as well, working in the kitchen on your own for so many hours, Zoe didnt get much of a chance to speak to anyone, so whenever she got a chance to spend some time amongst one of the farmhands shed take the option, and in terms of that, today was one of them. It was a Wednesday afternoon, and not long after everyone sat down to a bowl of Vegetable Soup with some bread on the side, Zoe found herself back in the kitchen cleaning up the cutlery and utensils before preparing the final meal of the day, which on that night it was to be Shepherds Pie. Not all her jobs were revolved in the kitchen. Yesterday she began to participate working in the fields where carrots grew, and attended to the two horses the farm kept, which took the names of Georgie and Russell. But today it was just the kitchen. So as Zoe began cleaning up the dishes in the sink, a soundless trail of footprints entered the kitchen with hands full of vegetables. Andrew gingerly placed them onto the table and tried to head back the same direction he came from, trying to be light as a feather. It wasnt that he didnt want to communicate with Zoe, he just wasnt very good at small talk, as he wasnt used to it, even though their conversation last Saturday afternoon was completely natural. To be fair the conversation with his ginger housemate was the first non-work related and decent he had in months, especially after the Apple scandal, which in no case was his fault that could be blamed on Mother Nature for the horrendous weather they received that season, but since his place was the orchard, he was to blame. He went to turn his back as Zoe placed a dish onto the drying rack before collecting another from the table when she faced him, himself trying to escape. Hi Andrew, how have you been? Andrew was speechless, no one ever asked how he was and no one was really that polite to him, so he took it quite kind-heartedly and tried to at least return the offer. Fine, Im fine, he finally gave a reply. Sorry to bother you, you must be quite busy, better be off now, he tried to sound as cheery as possible without giving the hint that he was rather uncomfortable. He quickly tried to make the exit; however, Zoe wasnt born yesterday and knew something was up and she wanted answers, but he needed to admit it, so with that she galloped to the door and swiftly slid the lock across the door, using herself as a barrier. Somethings up, isnt it? Zoe questioned the victim. Nothings wrong Andrew tried to give a reply before being further questioned. Yes there is, youre keeping it from me and enquiring minds want to know. Its my business, not yours, but please, let me go before they disown you as well!! Okay that wasnt expected. Had Andrew actually done something to make them not meet ends with him? As for the Apple Scandal, Zoe never believed in the corruption, Andrew, as timid as he was, couldnt think of him trying to ruin sales, as his wages were involved in the profits. Disown you, what the heck is going on? Tell me or Ill ask Bart myself, telling him that you wouldnt spill the beans.

Fine, dont please, dont go, Ill tell you. Ill tell the life story of a boy named Andrew Thackeray!! With that, Zoe undid the lock so people could transfer themselves between the farm and the house, took Andrews hand and led him to her room. The sudden touch of palm to palm caused Andrew to flush, which being behind her allowed him to hide the evidence, however the a sudden shiver that bolted up his spine made him flinch, which Zoe felt through his hand, also causing her to blush, she might have an admirer. Bounding up the stairs and across to the door, Zoe turned the handle to the familiar room which Andrew knew about when he helped her to unpack a few days ago. Andrew strode across the room and took a seat on the edge of Zoes bed. Zoe, for current matters sake, took the chair from the desk and positioned herself opposite the bed, trying not to make things seem to uncomfortable. I dont like doing this, but I shall, Andrew began to speak. My full name is Andrew Thomas William Thackeray. Im 29, well 30 in a month time. Ive been living here for the entirety of my life. Yes I was born here. But, Bart is not your dad right, are you adopted, if not, where are your parents? Zoe took a keen interest, but she needed to know why everyone was harsh around him. No, Bart is not my dad, my parents used to own this farm, many moons ago, until I reached 16. As you know I went to a school in Salisbury, never remember the name of it, its been ages since graduation, and the name has probably changed since, and never went to university. Thats when Bart took over, just after I had turned 16. So, what happened to your parents, did they give in and sell the land? Zoe continued to ask questions. Yes, they moved, look up vertically and if you look just far enough youll see them waving, my Mother would probably have tears in her eyes from the despicable actions that have occurred here since and also that someone actually cares about me, so I thank you for that. My parents died on my sixteenth birthday in a car accident. Wed been away for a weekend in Cardiff and were coming home. As we left Wales the car caught fire on the motorway, where we crashed into the barriers on the hard shoulder. As I slumbered out of the back with already a broken arm, my dad was already dead at the wheel. I tried to get my mother out but she was crammed and her legs had been crushed, she told me to run and take care of the farm. I left her With that last sentence, Andrew destined himself to continue, tears welled up his eyes, trying to force them back, but a reassuring arm glided round his waist as he broke down. A few minutes later, with both participants entangled in a friendly warm embrace, Andrew finally had the strength to continue; still forever wanted to remain in this position, it felt natural. Zoe had never been so close to someone in ages, she too, thought this friendly encounter should occur more often, keeping her long pale arms around him, Andrew continued, his chin resting on her left shoulder, Zoe now sitting on her bed next to him. I ran a few metres, I dont know why, I should have stayed, but I didnt. The car exploded, my mother being engulfed in flames taken alive, luckily enough my father didnt go through as much pain. What were there names?

My father, my dads name was James and my mothers was Elizabeth-Jane. I attended the funeral, allowing me to say my final goodbyes to them. Theyre now like my guardian angels, I go once every month to the cemetery to talk to them, my only friends, minus you. I grew lonely. I had no family. When Bart took over with Verity he initially wanted me to be on my way. I told him that my parents had died, and were the previous owners of the farm, and he allowed me to stay here providing I work endless hours on the farm. Since then Im not used to people. I talk to myself all the time, to the birds that often lay nests nearby the Orchard where I usually dwell during the day and to the beautiful butterflies, theyre also my friends. People think Im weird, a freak, non-human. At this point Zoe began to leak herself, tears trickling down her face, she truly felt sorry for him, growing lonelier by the day, taking the slow path. How dare anyone say youre not human? You are perfect, yes your luck hasnt been fortunate, and youre not the only one, but for someone to say youre not human is completely irrelevant! So what about Julia, Mark and Gavin? Mark was the first one to start here, during the late 70s, the first farmhand Daniel had left returning to Southampton. Like you, Mark was looking for work and started here. He was nice to me for a while before Bart made some crap up about me, Im sure he just laughs in his sleep of ways to torture me. Mark came from Bournemouth, and every month goes back to visit his parents. Hes the friendliest of the three. Julia started in 82 after she left school. I already knew her from school, even though we never spoke, and have never had the chance to. Gavin started the year later, coming from East Yorkshire, as he wanted to get away from the weather and surrounding of the north. He was paired up with Julia, which after a while developed into a relationship, and Mark already had a girlfriend. So no one speaks to you in a friendly way? Only me? Good god! Well fear no more, at least you have a friend now. Looking at her watch, she never realised how late in the day it was. Are you busy the remainder of the night? Andrew wondered why the sudden change of tone was given in question, but shortly replied. No, was going to and see my friends later, why? Come with me, Ill keep you occupied Zoe grabbed Andrews rough but gentle hand and whisked him back downstairs and into the kitchen, allowing him to help make dinner. Not long after as Andrew began chopping carrots, handing them over to Zoe to place in the giant pot upon the stove, Bart made an irregular entrance into the kitchen, not being if at all pleased. Andrew, what do you think you are doing? Get out there now and work, you complete lazy slacker! Ive finished my jobs for today, look its 4pm now, Ive been on my feet since 6am, cant I at least enjoy some company for once? Dont you dare talk to me like that? Right, arms up above head. Bart clomped his way inside the middle room, clearly grabbing an object as he knocked stuff over trying to grab the object. Andrew was trembling as knew what was to feature next. Zoe, on the other hand, was stunned. She thought that the relationship wasnt too friendly but she never thought that these matters would be that serious. Bart soon

returned with his riding crop, as he began to bend the leather between his two-fistful hands. Making sure Zoe never caught a second of the action, he forced Andrew out of the kitchen and out, deep into the fields, making sure Zoe wouldnt hear his cries. Within an hour the Pie had been made, as the various types of birds began to chirp, calling dusk upon the Earth as dinner was served on the outside table near the kitchen door. Weve arranged a date. Were getting hitched on 22nd February, Julia began the usual mindless chatter. Everyone congratulated Gavin and Julia once again for finally deciding a date before Zoes brain starting rattling with thoughts. Wheres Andrew? Hes usually up here by now? Oh dont worry Zoe, hell be up at some point, he just learning how not to disobey your Master. Oh god! He hasnt been at my bloody apples again has he? Verity gasped as she heard the news. No, it was the carrots. Dont worry Miss Trevena, hell no longer be a bother to you anymore, or probably to anyone. With the sudden outrage Zoe let the fork slam down onto the platter as she took her feet shadowing the other housemates and her boss. Master? Hes not a bloody slave you know!! What are we, in the bloody 18th Century? In fact dont answer that and as for you Verity, sod your bloody apples!! And for the lord of almighty he was only helping me chop the carrots, I allowed him to, so no he wasnt a bother to me, he never has been. Being perfectly honest your not all a brilliant bunch are you, completely narrow minded gits! At the moment you all deserve to go to hell, if there is one. Since Ive been here, hes the only one who has the decency to try and associate with me, whereas you lot have kept your place avoiding me as if Im nothing! What have you done to him? Where is he? Tell me!!! Bart stood from the table and told her if she wants to remain in her position she dare never to speak in that tone again, and will be carrying out extra work tomorrow for her language. In response Bart never told her where he had left Andrew, who was probably in Zoes mind, remembering the riding crop from earlier, in much pain at the moment and needed sudden attention. Backing away from the chair, she undone the brown fence and took to searching for Andrew.

Chapter 9 A Near Fatal Disaster: Part 1 Having no torch with her, which she cursed herself for; Zoe was barely able to see where her feet were carrying her as she charged down the fields to find Andrew. As she had learnt from her time working at the farm, Andrew was fond of surrounding

himself with the Orchard, which was straight at the most southern part of the farm, as thats where his friends were situated, but being twilight at this current time, Andrew could lying anywhere. A good fifteen minutes after she departed from the table, she found Andrew in the Orchard, perched up against a Pear tree, his face covered with gashes near his eyes, mouth and jawline and presumably countless numbers of marks were lying across his body, his dark blue checked shirt ripped to almost shreds and his jeans were scuffed and covered with dirt and grass stains. His ginger hair was more ruffled than usual, containing traces of blood and mud, as did his hands, which were completely stained. Stay away from me!!! Please dont hurt me, please!! Andrew pleaded. Shhh, Andrew, please calm down, its me Zoe, Im not going to hurt you, youve done nothing to deserve this, Im so sorry, Zoe tried to soothe him, dropping straight beside him on her knees when she found the battered body. Gradually Andrew began to regain some trust in him and assured he at the same time that this was Zoe, and he could trust her, despite knowing her for very little time. Gently he opened his arms out to her to cling on to the female before him as she started to push him back up onto his feet, gritting his teeth to stop himself crying out in pain. Hed suffered from this on a number of occasions, but the so-called punishments had never been this painful, then again, the number of times hes been unconscious, hes lucky at this time round he is alive. Can you walk, or try to, Id carry you but its going to be a bit difficult, I will try though if thats the case, Zoe commented. Tears were streaming down her eyes, no matter on the courage that lay deep inside her. To see someone in this state was unbearable and it broke her heart. No its fine, it might just take me awhile. For the majority of the short journey back to the house Andrew managed to steadily, aided by Zoe, walk back to the house, but before they reached the hill to the farmhouse Zoe lifted him bridal style and heaved him back up to his room. Zoe thought as she lifted him this was going to be a difficult challenge, even though he had a thin torso. Surprise to her though, he was rather light. Easing him onto his bed, Andrew silently wailed of pain, as she quickly left to find the nearest medical supplies, not trying to disturb anyone in the front room before they place the riding crop on her. Within an instant she returned with the kit as she delicately removed the tattered shirt off his cold, pale upper torso. As she expected he was plastered with wounds, but at the same time as she took in the sight she saw old scars and bruises, meaning that this was not the first time. Soundly she spoke, This is going to hurt, please try to keep still as possible, as she took the ointment from the box to clean the wounds and dabbed it onto a small cloth, before applying it to the torn skin. She didnt want to see the timid creature in pain, but knew that if this was not treated then infection and possibly diseases could enter the blood stream, and she was nowhere near ready for another death quite yet. For comfort he grabbed his only pillow and clenched it as she dabbed alcohol to the broken skin to clean the wounds on his back before moving to his front, and finally his face before applying bandages and various plasters, hands gently surfacing the skin. Why does Bart do this to you, and has this happened before? Zoe guessed it had judging by the look of Andrews face earlier during that day when Bart him out of the

kitchen, as well as the picture of Andrews torso that she had just seem, but wished for him on his own terms to admit the crimes himself. Yes, numbers of times, I dont why, Im too afraid to ask, Andrew shortly replied. This is beyond absurd, you dont deserve to be treated like this. After some kind words to one another Zoe tried to settle Andrew to sleep, astonished by the fact of how suddenly after hed been beaten up he allowed her to clean him up, undress him and put him to bed, as she was the mother of him and he be a small child. Having kissed him on the forehead out of nowhere to try and comfort him for the night, an inch of having the brown, wooden door closed before she put herself to sleep, Andrew partially rose up, taking the duvet off him. Please Zoe, please stay with me, Im scared to be alone. Knowing of the state that Andrew was in, hed need all the comfort possible to try and keep him sane, she accepted his plead. Give me two minutes! Zoe hesitantly dashed into her room and quickly undressed herself into her nightdress, before returning back and mutely shutting the door behind her. Thankfully Andrews bed, like hers, was a double bed. Casually but faintly she slid into the bed beside him, pulling the misty blue duvet above her shoulders to keep the warmth intact as he slid an arm around her waist and pulled her in close, discovering and breathing in new smells which vapourised off Zoe, leaning his head against her shoulder, which she smelt of roses. At the same time new but almost smells radiated off Andrew which Zoe in, which he smelt of cherries and pears. Although rather uncomfortable, as if people saw the pair in their current posture they would most certainly talk, Zoe was rather fond of this; again, it felt natural, as if they were an attachment. Sparing the moment that she was not ever likely to have again, she leant into the touch, and giggled as his curls grazed her neck. The faint giggle caused Andrew to draw a rather a rather impressive grin and hugged her tighter, themselves falling asleep entangled within minutes.

Chapter 10 - A Near Fatal Disaster: Part 2 The morning of 5th September was a beautiful one. Orange skies of dawn breaking drew into the room casting long shadows everywhere with the sun rising without a cloud insight, the temperature already accelerating above 16. The sheet wrapping the duvet of Andrews bed was decoratively ruffled as Zoe lay against Andrew, her head

on his right shoulder with her nose tenderly brushing against his neck. Without thought and half-asleep, Andrew leant down to kiss Zoes temple, followed by her lips as he began to wake, which were warm and soft. Good morning. Instantly he woke, cursing himself as he realised what hed just gone and done, knowing that they werent a couple, just friends, as he slowly began without trying to put himself into further pain to move away from Zoe and begin to prepare himself for another long day of work. Zoe felt an arm slip away from her lower back, and her head was now resting on one of the pillows, having just been kissed by Andrew, which was a lovely morning present as she too began to wake, despite them only being friends, or maybe now friends with benefits. Please, please stay with me. I dont want to wake up! Andrew felt a genuine grin come to his face as she groaned beginning to fully wake up, adding a bit more colour to his complexion, and of course wanted to stay in bed amongst the sheer warmth that their inner bodies created during the night, but seconds were quickly ticking away and it was still hadnt yet reached the weekend, where they were allowed to sleep for longer. Zoe, come on, its edging on 6:45, and breakfast needs to be done. Come on, we can sleep and do whatever we want later. Zoe allowed a yawn pass her as she rose from the bed to quickly skip to her room to get changed, turning her head before she left. By the way, why did you kiss me? For the majority of the next two weeks in between working, Andrew and Zoe spent their remaining time together, from going out to the nearby city of Salisbury shopping or just spending time together in the fields or the orchard, and today was hopefully going to be no different. At the same time Zoe and Tammy were still keeping in contact together, where at rare moments when they spoke over the phone, most of the time they would write to one another, Tammy mentioning life at work, how life was living with Bradley in Eastbourne and Zoe would mention life in Baverstock and on the farm, as well as the introduction of Andrew, who Tammy saw as a future husband by the looks of things. It had now slightly passed mid-September, the 18th for that matter and exactly two weeks since Andrew had been last wounded. The scars were quickly, to much surprise, fading away as Andrew now had much more strength than usual to be able to successfully complete jobs that he regularly couldnt properly do. Today was also the day where Andrew needed to visit the hospital for his check up, a secret that hed kept away from Zoe, as he knew shed already dealt with enough over the last few years, and didnt want to make matters worse, but at the same he admired Zoe, he liked her to a great extent, but was afraid to admit that.

Zoe as usual was bored, shed completed her usual jobs and was now on the prowl for something else to do, so with that, she set down through the fields into the orchard. Andrew was stumped against a tree on a ladder; a large basket lay below where apples were lying helplessly as Andrew dropped the apples into the basket before either being used to make pies with, sold as produce or being compressed into apple juice to sold at markets of all sorts.

Bored as usual are we? Andrew mentioned as she arrived at the gate with an extensive grin on her face. Need any help, Zoe quickly responded, and with that began to climb up the tree, resting on a branch to help collect the already ripe apples. For there they would sit for about an hour as the day would calmly continue, birds began to perch nearby chirping away before the pair began to sing along, for once they started to truly enjoy their own lives, thanks to each others company. When the job was done, or that there were too many apples to fit the basket, Andrew slid down the ladder and folded it up, as Zoe had commented she neednt use the ladder. Unfortunately for Zoe, as she tried to descend back down the tree, her right boot got caught on the branch, causing a shriek to pass between her lips as she fell. As she fell, Andrew dropped the ladder, catching her in his arms as he too fell, causing them to both crash to the ground, the thump and sudden contact re-introducing pain into Andrews back and sides and for Zoes blue checked shirt to slightly rip. Meanwhile Mark and Gavin were working in the field north to them. As they heard the screech, they quickly released the tools before setting to the orchard. Whats that bloody git down now? They both chanted as they aimed themselves southward. On the other hand both were lying flat as Zoe confronted Andrew that she would take him to the hospital for his check up and thanked him for catching her and not breaking her neck, before beginning to ascend herself back onto her feet and head northward, expecting Andrew to follow soon enough towards her car, as he couldnt drive, and would usually walk to the hospital. As Mark and Gavin approached the orchard, Bart came sprinting down in search for Andrew himself, as usual having an angry tone spread across his sour face. Boys! Where the hell is he, and where is Zoe? Were searching for them, we heard a screech from the orchard, why? Both men were rather curious as to if Zoe had committed a crime of her own. None of your bleedin business, oh fine then, Zoe had a letter come this morning which she shouldnt have seen. I was going to keep hold of the letter without her knowing, itll upset her; having said that, when I went to collect the letter someone had swiped it, Bart explained, trying to remain in a calm tone. Are you sure you hadnt dreamt it or she took it herself? It was addressed to her Of course she hadnt, otherwise shed of told me, so Andrew must have had it, do me a favour and find them!! Certainly, both boys commented and quickly dashed in search, as they were technically on the look for both individuals anyway. Before Zoe and Andrew could head northwards to her car, Mark and Gavin found them lying by the tree in a tangled mess. Oh for god sake Andrew, get your hands off her, the poor wench has a life you know, Gavin retorted. Of course she does, why, you a little jealous that shes not yours, Andrew scoffed back, trying to lie equal in argument. Zoe gave a small chuckle at the remark before making an approach out of the orchard, even though they technically werent together. Ill see you at the car. Zoe left in the distance whilst the three remaining fellas stood nearby the entrance.

Ah, got yourself a little friend, maybe shes already attached? Oh and wheres Zoes letter? The boys began to deride Andrew, knowing the fact that not one female has had an attraction for him, even though hes had many for them. Shes not my girlfriend, I love her though, shes incredibly wonderful and much better than anyone else will ever be, minus my parents, and what letter, and I have no letter! If a letter was addressed to Zoe then she would have probably been given it by now. Dont lie to us you pathetic rusted mogul, lying ah, your parents wouldnt like that, the taunting become stronger, with Mark pinning him against a nearby tree whilst Gavin searched him before throwing him punches against his jaw and already damaged ribs. Having found no letter upon his presence, they continued the assault, speaking intimidating words as he began to tear apart. Having turned at the cries of pain and frustration, Zoe heard everything Andrew had to say, which she couldnt help but blush a crimson red upon her faint, freckled cheeks about his confession, she loved him as well, as he wasnt like anyone else shed met, and quickly set back to rescue him. Once again he lay beaten up and bruised, suspected this time he had a broken rib and was in more pain than ever before. What the hell do you think youre flipping well doing? Zoe charged into the orchard slapping the pair in disgust, demanding answers for their uncalled attack. Hes taken a letter addressed to you which Bart needed, oh shit! I wasnt meant to say that, Gavin blurted out, causing to be shoved by Mark for spilling the beans. Zoe truly felt pissed off. If a letter had been addressed her then no participant should lay their hands on ones possessions unless been authorised to. If its addressed to me then its mine, not his, do you understand me? Ive got hold of the letter, even though I havent read it yet. Now get out of here before I kill the bloody pair of you and drown you buggers!! Both men fled out into the distance back towards the house. Okay, so she didnt have hold of the letter, but she had an idea who did, and with the confession of Bart wanting to keep his paws on others property Andrew was the only one she could trust, and therefore needs to pay up in gratitude for what he has gone through to protect her. With them out of sight, Zoe quickly lay eyes on the torn, thin raked man lying beneath her, incapable of moving. Zoe, get me to the hospital, Im think Im dying Andrew mumbled. Oh God, you are not dying yet, love! Without hesitation Zoe carried him into the car before setting off towards Salisbury hospital, now arriving to their destination with a different cause.

Chapter 11 Im not broken just yet Can I get some help here, help someone please!! A team of nurses and doctors rushed Andrew into the nearest hospital ward before setting to work, Andrew continuously in and out of consciousness as he now stared at the clean white ceiling and not a rich blue sky. Zoe, wheres Zoe? I need Zoe! Andrew kept trying to call

as the one nurse set an oxygen mask in place over his face. Hearing the calls, Zoe grabbed Andrews left hand, squeezing it hard to reassure him. Im here, youre going to be fine, stay with me please!! Zoe felt a tear trek down her face; shed already lost her father and most certainly didnt want to lose another close attachment. Whats his name Miss? We need his records before we can set to work on him, the one nurse asked Zoe. Andrew Thackeray, Im his friend, Zoe Trevena. The nurse, going by the name of Katherine Garrett dashed out to the receptionist to search for his records, and about five minutes later the records were found. From there the right treatment was given to him as Zoe was carted away before they escorted him into a singular room where further tests were carried out. Hell be in here tonight, hes too injured to return home, well send a cab for you if you wish. Mr Wilson knows of the incident, is something going on between them, he didnt seem at the least surprised nor worried? At the moment Zoe wasnt at the least concerned of what anyone else dared thought of Andrew, a layer of hatred rolled out across her occupants names. No thank you, can I see him and stay with him, Im the only person he trusts right now and also Mr Wilson and Andrew are not on best terms, in fact Andrew doesnt get on with anyone at home other than me, is he alright, will he need medication? Zoe had a theory that Andrew would be placed on medication for at least a short-term period, judging on the damage created. Hes going to need round the clock care, Id say hes got less than 6 months to live my dear, liquid morphine wont see him entirely through that, nor the pills. You can collect his prescription in the morning Miss, as for now hes got to rest and yes, you can stay with him, if Id say myself, hes not really your friend is he, the way you pair look at each other, you look more like an almost married couple. Zoe soundly pulled the door behind her close before taking the chair at the side to Andrews bed, where he lay on his side facing her, all the life and energy drawn out of him, the clock above his head reading 8:30pm. The letter - I lied - to help you. Barts done it in the past, never told Gavin bout parents moving away, still dont know, Andrew did ones best to speak through the mask. The note, left pocket on jacket, theyre stupid, search me n dont look at obvious places. So Andrew had been lying to them but nonetheless she was right about the note, not that it didnt matter right now. Never mind the note, Ill look later. Thank you. Whats this about liquid morphine? What are you hiding from me? Extremely agitated, Zoe slipped further out of the chair, gripping Andrews hand, looking for an answer, and hoping this wouldnt be fatal news, as she carefully sipped her cup of coffee that shed bought from the hospital restaurant recently. Cancer Zoe, Im so sorry Zoes coffee cup dropped and splattered across her as she gazed at him in shock and swearing at the same time in agony, her legs burnt from the cautiously scalding refreshment. Shit! Ouch, bloody damn coffee. Actually sod the coffee. You cant be serious, dont joke, its cruel! Im not lying, look at my chart! Zoe stood and took various strides to the foot of the bed before holding in her possession a clipboard with a few scribbled notes written on the top page, giving a list of his current history, including that very news.

How, when, what? Zoe was obviously lost for words. Andrew had cancer and he was still working? Bone marrow cancer, treatment isnt helping much, but I try and carry on. Had it since last November, its gotten worse since, since the beatings began last May. Now it kills me to carry on, but the more days I continue, the more I become proud of what I do And you still work? Jesus man youre impossible! Right, look at me, you are going to survive this, and Im going to make sure of that. Zoe returned to the headboard committing herself to her work. Zoe, I meant what I said earlier, I love you, your wonderful and amazing, and no woman has ever had the courage to stand up for me like that, or man, they all just run scared or just dont bother! The previous splash of crimson red was now more of a scarlet ruby shade with a hint of rose pink. Andrew you utter idiot, your amazing, to be doing what you do in that situation is incredible, you take so much crap from everyone and you do so much. Youre warm, caring and intelligent and you my love are going to survive, now shush for me and please rest. She already knew that the cancer he was suffering from wasnt curable, which Andrew probably already knew himself, but didnt want to put him in more agony than he currently was in, so to ease back into relaxation she massaged her gentle, elegant hand through his copper curls, spreading her fingers to properly feel them brush against the skin, sending a sharp shiver through her before placing a chaste kiss to his lips. God he was beautiful she thought, but at the same time god he needed to regain his strength and increase the percentage of his health. Fumbling in his pocket for the letter as he mildly slept, she took the now crumpled note and deposited herself back into the chair, now reading the note with a mortified expression upon her, mutely crying at the words written in black ink on the off white paper, witnessing the note of another death, this time the cause being a brain tumour. Why was it was always to be a form of cancer that people currently died from? With those confessed words floating around in the atmosphere, creating a firm string attaching the couple together and another close once attached string to Zoes heart broken, Zoe vowed to take care of Andrew, making sure he himself wouldnt die all that too soon.

Chapter 12: The Wedding A week had passed when Andrew was finally discharged from Salisbury Hospital, suffering in all with a fractured rib and jaw. Throughout the week Zoe had been with him constantly, making sure that her companion gradually began to regain his health. The note initially addressed to Zoe was finally in the hands of its rightful owner, which Zoe managed to recite that night that Andrew was admitted into Ward D21, Room 2. The note clarified the death of her mother Mary, the cause of death being

from a brain tumour where she died in her sleep on 16th September 1986, so in between visiting Andrew, Zoe began to construct plans of her mothers funeral. During that week as Andrew had been regaining his health back, another letter had come through the post, only this time in the form of love between people. Tammy had sent Zoe and Andrew an invitation to their wedding, taking place on Saturday 6th October. As Zoe showed the invitation to Andrew, which at the same time thought when exactly were they engaged, Andrew accepted the offer of attending their wedding, at least hed get to see some people from Zoes past. So on the Thursday when Andrew had been discharged from the hospital, the pair went shopping in Salisbury for some outfits for the wedding, using part of their wages, and then would use some more on the train fare there and back, as it would take ages travelling by road. On the Saturday morning, Zoe parked the car at the train station in Salisbury, taking the 07:50 train from Salisbury, which within a few hours they arrived at Eastbourne Station, where a taxi would take them to the church where Tammy and Bradley were to be married. As they arrived other guests were chatting away, where she saw Tammys parents and introduced them to Andrew, who they greeted and went on. After the service had taken place and photographs and more congregations had taken place, Tammy and Bradley finally had the chance to speak with Zoe and meet Andrew. Greeting each other, Tammy commented on how Andrew was the new boyfriend of Zoes, and how shell have to get used to everyone calling her Mrs Tamara Tomlinson and not Hughes, which everyone smiled at. Tammy as usual, looking dazzling in her white frock and golden locks, which used to be a bob, but since has grown her hair, and Bradley, looking incredibly posh and a true gentleman in his tuxedo. From there a small get together was held at some posh bar in a fancy hotel, with the DJ playing disco hits from a decade ago and people still dancing to them as if it was the newest craze which had took stage. A huge buffet was included, which was much better than eating potatoes at least three times a week. By the early evening came around, Andrew was exhausted, so with one dance together to some slow romantic ballad, which Tammy went awe to as Zoe, even though the loss of her mother had stricken her, she had finally found someone she loved, so after that Andrew asked the bat tender to telephone for a cab back to the station, where they would catch the train back to Salisbury, and then drive up to Baverstock.

Chapter 13 Final Goodbyes Two weeks after the incident to Andrew on a rather balmy morning of Thursday 11th October, all the residents of Orderton Penrose Farm alongside Tammy and Bradley stood at the foot of St. Marys Church before the doors opened at 11 for the attendees to gather inside the small holy building. As the church began to accommodate its guests, quietness began to stir as the service began to commence. Zoe, dressed in a

simple black dress with small heels, took to the stage, existing from the front left-side bench, to give her inaugural address. Standing at the podium with a written A4 document in front of her, her feet fumbled amongst each other, clearly showing that she was nervous, but at the same time grieving heavily. Laying eyes upon Andrew, Tammy and Timothy for comfort, Zoe began her speech. Ladies and Gentlemen, I just like to say a few words. Thank you everyone for being here this morning to witness the departure of Mary Trevena. A wonderful woman she was, kind-hearted, one to never give up. She was a lady of gratitude, someone who always put everyones troubles before her own, regardless of the situation. Alas, she, like my father, was taken by God where shell forever be in heaven, reunited with Charles Trevena, may love forever be with you, Ill forever love you mum Zoe initially got about two-thirds through the document that shed written when the news first came to her, but wondered as she wept and the attendees re-perched themselves how she was supposed to sing one of the hymns to conclude the ceremony. After a teary, well-applauded rendition of Amazing Grace, everyone rose to the feet and made their way to the rear of the building. Some participants of the party, such as Marys former colleagues at the shop wouldnt be attending the after ceremony buffet, and parted their way from the remainder of the group as soon as Marys coffin was lowered into the grounds of the cemetery, lying next to her husband, at long last reunited for eternity. The buffet, for economic reasons, would be held back at the farm which would be soon over within a few hours, so once the course had been completed and everyone departed, allowing the final introduction between Andrew, Zoe, Tammy and Bradley, and the greeting of Tims partner Rob, where they actually found out that they had been together since he had turned 20, Zoe and Andrew soon found themselves back at the cemetery to say a final proper goodbye to both sides of the family. After a few hours at the cemetery, both grieving at the loss of their parents, they spent the afternoon, since dinner was not needed due to the leftovers of the buffet, down in the orchard where they would tell stories to each other of their past, their hopes and things they used to get up as kids, letting the hours slip away, and as for their dinner, Zoe nicked the picnic basket from the kitchen where she would place all sorts from buffet, leaving enough for the others for later, and a flash filled with lemonade for refreshment.

Chapter 14: One Final Attachment Under a tree in the bleak hours as dusk set over the lush green hills in the distance, casts of orange soaked up their skin, their hair as if were flames, as they lay hand in hand in the orchard after an exquisite dinner of leftovers in the form of a picnic, kissing each other tenderly as arms felt new areas of skin as each member became more exposed, leading their practises into Zoes bedroom, which in a way, was near

enough shared now. Having said that, none of the other occupants had yet witnessed the attachment of the couple, and neither associate wanted their actions to be heard of just yet. As items of clothing were discarded in the final hours of that day, an unexpected call brought the action to a halt. Zoe dear, are you Christ my lord!!! With the sudden outbreak of a newcomer, Andrew eased himself up off Zoe, trying to use the duvet to hide the exposed portrait of himself in his birthday suit whilst tugging the other end up for his companion to shield herself with. Verity, there is a thing called knocking you know. It may come useful to you one day, you should try it! Zoe clearly discombobulated as Andrew guarded her from further exposure, swinging an arm around her torso, dragging their bodies tightly wrapped together. You, and him. Oh god no you werent. Eugh, that gross! Its love you fool. You somehow ended up falling for that prune of a husband of yours so if you dont mind please let us finish what we started in peace.

The surprise astonishment caused further intruders to gather at the door, peering their faces in between others for a brilliant up close view. When the heck did sex alarm you? Andrew disclosed. Sex dont alarm me, its just I thought Id never see the day of you pair shacking up. Seriously though Zoe, you could of picked a more decent fella. By now all members, minus Bart, who couldnt be bothered to interfere with the commotion, were beady eyed, ready for the posers to spill the beans. I pick who I want thank you very much, and I certainly do not need boyfriend choosing advice for that matter. So in other words to all of you, piss off! With that Zoe grabbed a nearby sheet, wrapping herself in the thin white muslin before shuffling her way across the bare room before slamming the door shut in their faces. On the other side of the entry, everyone gradually whispered despicable words of the pairs actions before returning to their own quarters, quietly listening in on the twosome whilst continuing their own matters of business, which theyll probably get moaned at the morning by the pair, so for once being kind, many never bothered after a short while with what Zoe and Andrew got up to behind closed doors, and at the same time, Zoe wasnt entirely sure with what Verity wanted her for in the first place. Putting aside the matter and would probably find out in the morning if Verity hadnt already forgotten. Returning to her berth, a sudden interruption werent going to provoke continuation of their actions, so with that, they continued their intimate endeavours, resulting in many screams of pleasure, some unwanted noise from the one side of wall and two lustful individuals, as they settled against each other before dozing into their daily twilight siesta.

Chapter 15: It Was Poison All was calm in the early hours of 12th October, everyone peacefully in their chambers lustfully asleep, when a ear-splitting howl came from near the barn house in the eastern fields. The sudden outcry caused everyone to awake before questioning the call, Gavin noticing that Julia wasnt currently in his or her quarters. Julia? Gavin searched every inch of the house to retain his companion.

Guys, wheres Julia? The question of the howl from here grew deeper, now with Julia to be unseen. With no person of that name in the house, the remaining members of the household grabbed a torch alongside their dressing gowns and slippers and began the hunt. All split into various groups, taking on different directions. Bartholomew and Verity to the North near the Farm House and the surrounding road, Gavin to the West near the Stables, Andrew and Zoe to the South by the Orchard and Mark would head East near the Barn House. Mark headed East of the prowl for Julia, passing through the fields as he touched the entrance of the Barn House. Hello? Julia! Julia are you in here because if you are this isnt funny! Everyone is worried about you Julia, so if youre playing some sick cruel joke then open up because its over. As he walked in, the dimness of the torch, clearly its batteries wearing out caused his vision to degrade as he tripped over a rather long thin object. Kneeling down to take a closer look at the object with his torch, Julia was found lying still and rather cold, as Mark checked for a pulse. No pulse, no Oh god no! Not only had he found Julia, but a dead corpse at the same time. Through a stake of shock, Mark sat with the pale figure for a minutes recapturing his breath before heading back the way he came toward the centre of the farm, calling everyone to group up. Guys, shes in the Barn House. Someone phone the police now!!! Hearing the call, everyone turned to head to the Barn House, minus Bartholomew, who was nearby the house and much slower on foot compared to the others, took to the front room to call for the police. Gavin. Im so sorry mate, but shes gone By now it was edging on for 4am of this barbaric morning as nearly all gathered around the body. In a stake of shock, Gavin leant down to kneel at the side of his former beloved one. Pulse, pulse, cmon Jules! Stop playing games now, please! Stop this, stop this for me Gav, shes dead, cmon now. Hang tight, Mark did his best to reassure him by dragging the poor soul away from the corpse as Gavin stumbled and clung onto Mark for prevention of falling, knowing that Gavin would need to be properly looked after for a while before they ended up losing another soul. Within 40 minutes the police had arrived at Orderton Penrose Farm. Detective Inspector David Whitlock, I believed you phoned about a murder enquiry? Shaking hands with D.I. Whitlock and introducing himself, Bartholomew led the investigation team down to the Barn House where the victim lay. Not long after two ambulances arrived at the farm, one to take the body to the morgue for a post-mortem examination; and the other to take Gavin and Mark to hospital to treat for shock. As everyone sat tight to hear upon news of the cause of death and for Gavin and Mark to return from the hospital, the investigation continued to search for evidence to explain the cause of death and how the death was carried out, as even though one might say it was murder, it might have easily been some form of suicide,

even though many couldnt figure why of all people Julia would have the intention of killing herself. Since the removal of the body there appeared to be no traces of blood, knife or other pointed sharp objects , so therefore she wasnt stabbed, had been shot or cut herself for that matter. There was however, a bottle of pills nearby, so as a result the cause of death was believed to be suicide, but nevertheless, the bottle was taken as evidence for investigation. A week later, now 19th October, a call came to Orderton Penrose Farm asking for the household to come to Salisbury Police Station for further information, all members of the household now acting as witnesses, and possibly if truth be told, suspects. As soon as all had given their stories on the incident, which were all the same, minus Barts and Marks, due to Mark finding the body and Bart phoning the police. Now that the examination had been taken place, and the bottle of pills had been investigated for fingerprints on the bottle and a thorough analysis on the pills inside the plastic brown container, D.I. Whitlock and his team soon arrived at the farm the next morning, much earlier than any other visitors would arrive at the house. D.I. Whitlock, you do realise it is six in the bloody morning and everyone is still in bed! Other than that any news? Verity seemed at the least pleased to be disturbed by the Detective Inspector but at the time anxious to hear any further information and the outcomes of Julias death. Yes, may I have a talk with you all immediately? Verity stepped aside, allowing Whitlock inside with a member of his team, as she woke up the remainder of the household, not daring to go into Zoe and Andrews room, but just knocking on the door, telling everyone that Whitlock was downstairs and for everyone to come down immediately. Sitting in the front room, after everyone had grabbed their dressing gowns and for some people, their nightwear, Whitlock began to explain the analysis. Julia Clarke died on the morning of 12th October 1986 as a result of being poisoned. She had been murdered by someone as she was forced to take the pills. How do you know it was murder, it could have been suicide? Verity, why would she want to kill herself, oh god, its all my fault, I should have moved the wedding date forward, Gavin cursed himself as continued to listen. The traces of poison in her blood stream and the contents of the pills clearly match. It was murder because there were two different sets of fingerprints on the container, the one set belonging to her and the other set are Andrews, so therefore I have no choice but Andrew Thackeray, you are under arrest for murder of Julia Clarke Andrew was forced by another officer to be cuffed and was taken out to the police car. Hold on, this is preposterous! How can he be the murderer, he was clearly with me the whole night because a so-called intruder called as usual. Ive clearly mentioned about the knocking Clearly not, Miss Trevena. Hold on a minute. You cant arrest me. Im in my bloody pyjamas for goodness sake!

Thank goodness you actually have some clothes on. Goodness knows what the other officials at the station would be like if we came in with a stark naked fella whos just been in bed with his woman. With that, Detective Inspector Whitlock slumbered into the front passenger seat of the car with Andrew uncomfortably positioned in the back. Im going to get you out of there, Zoe mouthed to Andrew as he replied with I love you, before the car drove away down the hill towards Salisbury. That sick utter piece of shite, why on earth would he do that! Gavin retorted as he grabbed Zoes shirt into fistfuls and shook her senseless before scuffing his way back into the house, soon being followed by everyone else. And yet you love him, you love a cold-blooded murderer. Bet you dont love him now? I will forever love him; and hes innocent, I know he is; and Im going to get him out of there, even if it kills me! Zoe stood at the foot of the path for hours on end before being dragged up to her room, not gaining a wink of sleep, as she lay watching the heavy rain shower pour from the hateful skies as she constantly thought about how her beloved one could be returned to her.

Chapter 16: The Trial of an Innocent Fella Zoe, come downstairs, I have news about Andrew! It had been almost a month since Andrew had been arrested for murdering Julia Clarke. Zoe since then had seen her lover on three occasions, for a total of an hour and 20 minutes. In between their discussions, she whispered on how she would get him out of there and one day both

would be free and happy. At the same time, during that month shed lost all respect for the household, as all believed Andrew actually killed her. Zoe had her presumptions that Bart in fact killed Julia by using Andrews possessions in order to finally dispose him, as cold-hearted as it sounded. Piss off you cow! Youll only tell me something disturbing and then laugh in my face. Nevertheless, Zoe lazily trotted downstairs before making her way into the front room, casually parching herself into the armchair that stood near the window. The court date has come, Verity began to smirk; despite the amount of effort she was trying not to. So, when is it? Come on, I didnt come down here for nothing. Tell me!! If your going to be like that with that type of attitude young lady then I shall not bother. But never mind, since as Id rather still live right now, its in 9 days at 10:00am. Knowingly you will be standing as one of the witnesses in his favour? Are you completely thick? Of course I will, Im not letting an innocent man take charge for a crime that he didnt commit. So it is on 18th November then? Yes, I suggest you be prepared for this. Oh dont worry, I shall be. Hearing the news, Zoe calmly slid out of the room before heading towards the telephone in her bedroom, which since as the household wouldnt another, she bought it out of her wages, ringing Tim for some help. Hello Tim, its Zoe, say you doing anything on 18th November? I need you and Robs help, oh and bring your gun Meanwhile Bart had plans of his own. When being introduced to anyone, every individual would think hes just some local friendly fella who owns a farm, living in a house with his wife and a few occupants, well farmhands. Not many know of his onesided dispute between himself and Andrew; and no one would ever think of him as a killer. In fact he never had been before, this was his first offence, but some small instinct inside him wanted to finish Andrew off altogether, and placing him in prison for life would be an easy way out, but he needed to rig the jury decision before his court date would arrive, so that hed have no say, even if it broke Zoes heart and he disowns her dead mother, and that Karma would probably come for him after. The morning of 18th November was a cold and drizzly one. Clouds filled the skies of Salisbury of at least 20 different shades of grey and black, chemically combining themselves to displease the citizens below them. Outside Salisbury Crown Court, Zoe quickly met up with Tim, who was slightly late, before heading with the other members of the court and jury and its attendees into the building. Sitting in one of the aisles in the courtroom, several police officers escorted the average sized, ginger curled suspect into the room next to his lawyer before taking stand. The trial began with the description of the incident and its evidence to suggest that Andrew is guilty, before calling up a handful of witnesses, which all was in favour of finding Andrew guilty. As Zoe stood up to the witnesses box to answer the questions being given to her, it was already apparent that she would take the opposite side. The final witness was Verity, who protested that Andrew and Zoe were together on the night of the crime and explained why, some peoples faces, alongside her own, were

in disgust of the actions, some on the other hand found it rather romantic and beautiful. She also explained that everyone caught them together, which Julia was present at the time. She did hear footsteps throughout the night, but nothing utterly suspicious came until the howl heard in the early hours of the morning. At this time Andrew was still with Zoe, and everyone was present minus Julia. She did however, not feel her companion by her side earlier during that morning, which everyone turned to Bart. The members of the jury from here began to question whether Andrew was to be found guilty or not, given the newest witness account. Leaving the courtroom for a 10-minute break, Bart took Verity into a corner to share a few moments of discussion. Why the heck did you say that for you utter idiot!! Now there going to take me for a suspect. You stupid bitch!! Oh for god sake, I bet that youre trying to make Andrew take the crime to get rid of him. Look, I dont like him either, but thats just cold. At the same time you should of seen the pair when I caught them together that night. Okay it wasnt pleasant to see them naked, but theyre two young people whove gone through a lot during their short lives and theyre clearly in love, just let them be and allow them to have some happiness for once. With that, she headed westwards for the ladies bathroom. As they spoke their concerns, Zoe was carelessly chatting with Tim, before noticing the CCTV camera above. She wondered whether the tapes recorded the sound, before shaking her head, of course they recorded sound! Which to her hope, that would be the vital evidence needed for confession and the truth of the murderer. Now all back in the courtroom, everyone sat as the judge asked the jury if they had come up with a decision, before an officer came running in, telling them of the moments ago footage which was shown, before the trial now continued, with three potential suspects at hand, the court coming to a close as through the confession, both Verity and Bart were arrested on the suspicion of Julias murder.

Chapter 17: To Be or Not to Be Guilty Now with a possible three suspects in hand, the case continued with further questioning, from the recording of Bart and Verity having a discussion over the previous witness encounter Verity had just given before taking a 10-minute break, now with Bart and Verity being re-questioned to make a decision.

You cant make Mr or Mrs Wilson Guilty if there is no evidence to bring up that matter! the judge commented. As for Mr Thackeray, evidence does suggest that he is guilty, where on earth would he get the poison from? He can barely walk, let alone retrieve poison to kill someone. There would be a reason for him killing her! He was jealous that she was getting married, someone shouted from the crowd. The court will be silent! Have you made a decision? Before hearing the head of the jury speak, in this case a community teacher, gun shots were fired in all directions across the courtroom causing people to scream and shield themselves, falling to the ground. Rob disguised as a police officer and Tim, firing the gunshots, within the speed the sound escorted both Zoe and Andrew out of the courts through the back, making sure no one saw their escspe. What the hell was that! Search all persons, and where the hell is Andrew? Find him!! With that everyone was searched as the remaining official police officers took to the search to find the one suspect and any other attendees of the trial who had suddenly gone wandering off, as they found the foursome trying to escape the building through the back entry. Chasing the foursome through the courts, they narrowly missed them as Rob took the wheel, started the engine and sped into the distance, heading back to Orderton Penrose Farm to quickly gather all of their belongings before making their way back to his house in Tisbury, with the foursome wanted and on the run from practically life. Where are they? The judge shouted as the police returned. Theyve gone, weve called a team out to search the area for the pair. Well get to work then. As for the now the court is closed ladies and gentlemen. Taking everything that they needed, they hauled two small suitcases into the boot of the car before jumping in to the back passenger seats. Come on, theyll be back within fifteen minutes or so. Great, Im a suspect, I need to attend the hospital, how am I going to be treated without getting caught? Andrew knew he was innocent, but cared deeply about his wellbeing, compared with the numerous before he met Zoe on how he tried to kill oneself but failed. At the same time he knew everything between him and the hospital was privately confidential, but at the same time they could easily phone the police to re-arrest him and place him back in custody. Youre only a suspect in the county, not the whole country. Ill drive you up to a hospital in the nearest county, youre safe for now, but youve probably got a month at most before you need to run far away from Wiltshire, so I suggest go to the North of England or Scotland, or even if possible leave the sovereign state and go to some other country such as Ireland or France. Thank you. Well drop off your possessions and then well take you down, Tim spoke as they sped out of Baverstock for the final time, making sure that Gavin or Mark werent anywhere in the near distance.

Chapter 18: I Need More Time 20 minutes into their journey and the foursome were back in Tisbury, as the mobile pulled up to Tim and Robs House, just round the bend from Zoes most-former home. The house, compared to the formers, was rather small in size for a detached house, and much more contemporary, a recent design coming from the 1960s. If they were going to be in hiding here for a while, surely the house would contain more than one bedroom, especially with Andrews terminal illness.

Andrew, Zoe, make yourself at home! The house indeed was small, containing a small front room, containing a sofa and couple of armchairs with a television, bookshelf and dartboard for entertainment. The kitchen and dining room were merged together, containing a small table with chairs alongside a fridge-freezer, stove with grill and a few cupboards and counters. Help yourselves to food, since its well past lunch, Rob mused as he began carrying Andrews suitcase to the makeshift room upstairs. We apologise for the state of your room, we werent expecting company so quickly, but weve tried to make as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Wondering exactly what the second half to the building rather looked like, both newcomers explored the state of the second floor, noticing the small bathroom and joining study before taking notice of their own room. The room was average sized, much like their own back at Orderton Penrose Farm, only this time it looked rather decent. It contained a small double bed, which looked rather snug. Perfect for Andrew! It also contained a wardrobe, desk with chair, a full-sized mirror, bookshelf and telescope for entertainment; and the window facing parallel to the door presented the pair with an amazing view of the fields and wilderness in the distance, overlooking a farm containing horses and a moor. Apologise, why are you apologising? This is amazing, much better than the room we previously had, Andrew sparked with excitement but also astonishment. Oh, and I hope you dont mind the noise during the night, sometimes we can get a little overboard. Rob its fine, were rather used to it, having two other couples in the house beforehand itll probably be a relaxation and relief for the atmosphere not to be as high tide, and then at some point well probably be making just as much noise as you guys will So Andrew, when was this appointment supposed to be then? Tomorrow morning at 9, why? Do you want me to drive you down tomorrow to the hospital, actually forget that, youll probably be noticed by an individual and the hunt the police and undergoing will probably draw to a conclusion. Therefore, well need to take you to one outside the county. Which is? I know there is one in Southampton, its a far enough distance for the police not to find you.

The evening was a engaging one, and rather unwinding. After a exquisite meal of Lasagne cooked by Rob, the foursome was drawn to the light entertainment from the television box, settling down to an episode of Coronation Street before searching the channels to find an episode of Columbo on. By 10pm, the air was clear as a full moon enlightened the darkness over the fields, and many yet various yawns slip pass them, as they cuddled amongst their partners watching the various colours of all sorts dance across the screen. Using the now one bathroom was rather annoying though, as everyone wanted a shower to freshen themselves up after a extensive, exhausting day, so finally everyone was snug in their chambers by midnight.

The next morning was a rather a dashed one. All occupants of 7 Meadow Lane had arose by 6:30am, and were in the kitchen consuming themselves with cornflakes and tea, and as for Andrew, unnumbered amounts of medication to keep himself breathing, which, he was beginning to run out of. Rob would be taking the pair to Southampton Hospital whilst Tim approached himself out of the house and off to work. Good morning, how may I help you, the receptionist of the department spoke as the three approached the desk at around 10am that morning. Andrew from there took a seat nearby, trying to ease him in a precise way to eliminate as much pain as possible. Rob and Zoe began to explain the situation he was in and that he needed to see a doctor immediately as his medication was running low and the state that he is currently in, the pair between them wasnt sure exactly how many days of mortality Andrew had left remaining. You know you should take him to his normal hospital, but since you appear to be currently travelling and he is no declared presence of being healthy to the least, Ill track down his records and a doctor will soon see him. As for now, please take a seat. Thank you, the pair synchronously said as they joined Andrew at the row of seats, Andrew feeling in despair as he gently rested his head against Zoes shoulder in patience, as Zoe brought an arm around his side, stroking his arm and shoulder in comfort as he began to soundlessly snooze. Andrew Thackeray? A small, deep baritone type voice came from the opposite side of the waiting area. Zoe hesitantly awoke Andrew who achingly tried to stand. Noticing the aggression and tension his body was under, the doctor called someone to bring a wheelchair to wheel back to the patient room. A long discussion of his current situation went underway before a group of porters came along to drive Andrew down a never ending corridor to a large theatre as Rob drove himself down to the cafeteria for two cups of Tea as Zoe resigned herself to the office where her companions previously were in presence of. An hour had passed with the threesome casually waiting upon results of Andrews condition, Andrew taking Zoes hands in his own, giving them a gentle squeeze to try to remain her from worrying over the upcoming news they were about to receive, whilst Rob went to the nearby cafeteria to grab them all some lunch in the form of sandwiches for the time being, and some bottles of water. A few minutes later and Dr Johnson returned with a large file glued to his left sturdy palm as he retook his leather office chair behind the miniature wooden desk. Mr Thackeray, Miss Trevena. We have undertaken many tests of Andrews current situation and how long he has remaining, understanding that he is becoming much weaker each day. Approximately to say the test shows that youve got around a month left to live, a month and a half at most. You mean to say that I wont see my 31st Birthday, New Years Day 1987 or even my own future children that we were preparing of? Will I see Christmas since as it is near enough December?

Im sorry Mr Thackeray, you definitely wont see your 31st Birthday, on the other hand you might see Christmas and New Year, if you are incredibly lucky, Ive would of said yes if your previous encounters of being beaten up hadnt of occurred. How did those happen? Never mind that, its not important now. Fine, I wont bring it up then, since as it seems a rather personal matter. Also, youre not expecting are you Miss? No, we were planning on trying for our first child though, but the sudden plummet of his health meant that the idea wasnt going to succeed, so we thought about adopting instead. Now out of the hospital and no matter had been or will be spoken until Tim arrives in the evening from work, the three were back on the road with the new set of medication in hand to depart Southampton and return to Tisbury. Now in the mid-afternoon, drifting on into the evening, a shove at the front door made everyone jolt with surprise. Oh god no, its them isnt it, check! Zoe, get him into the kitchen and close the door, turn the catch near the handle to lock it! With the orders given, Zoe carried Andrew to the kitchen before enclosing them in before a second shove was heard against the front entrance. Grabbing a croquet bat for protection, Rob took the catch off the front door before opening it with the handle. Jesus Rob, its raining, can you let me in love? I forgot my keys this morning. You know the catch has to be left on, cmon in out of the rain. Rob pulled his lover into a secure embrace before quick exchanges of kisses were given, allowing him into the warm comfort of their home. You going to catch a cold the way youre going, please put a coat on in future. How is he? Oh god, theyre still in the kitchen. Guys! False alarm. Tim the idiot was banging on the door as its raining cats and dogs and he has no keys Shush you, Tim gave Rob a slight shove towards the wall before pinning him and kissing him senselessly. Tim, what are you doing home so early? Easing himself off the wall, Tim tried to speak as he broke apart from Rob Boss sent me home. I couldnt concentrate, the thought of something horrible happening to you sent my head twisting in all directions. Any news? Sitting to mugs of tea in the front room before taking their seats in the dining room to eat, Andrew eventually found the courage to address his housemates of his fading situation. Ive a month left to live, well, Id say a month, on average that is. What? No, surely theyve got the results of the tests wrong. Im sorry but no. Im a deadma Its not fair, I dont want to die, I want more time, I need more time!! Tim shakily reported to the kitchen, Rob following him, to cook the groups evening meal whilst grabbing him to calm Andrew down, Zoe began soothing him by rubbing her right palm across his back in circles before using her left, entangled with his own

arm to massage his gorgeously flowing, messy curls as he buried his head in the crook of her neck and shoulder. You and me, are going to have an extraordinary month, packed with awesomeness and we can go and do lots of things that you want to do and have all the fun in the world and no will dare try and stop us. And if they try, what if they find us? What if Bart finds the house and beats me the final time? They cant because Bart and Verity are arrested anyway, and if anyone does touch you, then they have me to answer to!

Chapter 19: Run my Love! Over the course of the next two weeks many various ideas on places to go had been planned out. The first event they took on was a week at the Isle of Wight. Andrew had from an early age, enjoyed the idea of travelling and had never done so on a boat before, so they drove down to Southampton and took the ferry into Cowes, before staying in a motel in Sandown. The weather was dry and dull but it was much warmer than the temperatures in Tisbury and there were no snow to be seen. The second idea was to visit the capital. There were many places that Andrew was keen to visit which he had never done so, but never knew how busy a city landscape could be. Whilst in London for the next 3 days he explored the London Underground, Big Ben and the

London Eye, before glancing at the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. All was wondrous. How could an area contain so many people and be so alive at night? Back in Tisbury after a long adventure across the south of the country, both were back in hiding, wrapping a blanket around them to shield themselves from the bitter cold as December quickly rolled in, now the 17th, as the lights above them enlightened the room and the decorations of all colours along with the tree and Christmas Music being played on the record player made the house feel like a fairy-tale fantasy. It hadnt reached 6pm as dusk drew into the small house as Tim fled into the entrance of the house, panting for oxygen. There here, well on their way. Guys! You need to go. Theyve found us! Hearing the screams of panic Rob bounded down the stairs and Zoe almost broke the handle of the door as she flung it open, desperate to know what the commotion was all about. There, who, what, how did they find us? I was driving home from work when a police car was on patrol and noticed my figure and the number plate on the car as I pulled up to a traffic light. He was one of the officers at the trial. Within minutes himself and his partner had jumped into the mobile and chased after me, so I took a different route home, but they are out there, and they will find you if you dont run now! Before Tim had finished his immediate address, Rob and Zoe helped themselves the most valuable of the possessions and eased them into the car, as Tim carried Andrew into the front passenger side, before Zoe turned to her only two friends one final time. Got everything? Im sure so Good luck to you. Send us a call when you reach Cumbria. My friend has a small house up there for you to live in. Ill give him a ring in a minute to let him know youre on the way. Thanks so much Rob for all youve done. Zoe pulled him into a quick hug before moving to Tim Run My Love! Just keep running. Now Go!!! Zoe pulled away from Tim as she dashed into the drivers seat before starting the engine up and pulling away, heading in the direction towards the petrol station to collect some fuel as they quietly sang to Christmas Songs, trying to keep their heads low as sirens could be heard and growing lights could be seen in the fields nearby. Chapter 20: Keep moving forward So here it is, Merry Christmas. Everybodys having fun. Look to the future now, its only just begun, Andrew and Zoe were singing away to Slades Merry Christmas Everybody playing on the radio as Zoe drove into the nearest petrol station. We sound so terrible singing this, Zoe giggled with delight as she undone her seatbelt and stepped out the car to begin filling the tank. I dont care, its fun! Give me five minutes, keep your head down to make sure your not seen! Zoe without a doubt filled the tank to the rim and quickly paid the cashier inside before striding a quick march to the vehicle before driving out and moving on.

Anyone about love? No, were fine, which motorway do we need first. I havent got the slightest clue where we are going, actually never mind that, which road do I need to take? I can barely see the signs as it is, even with headlights on! We need to take the B3089. Sorry, it doesnt say much, this map is rather crap being honest. Fine, well go that way. Zoe indicates the left before making a turn and continues driving straight. Hold on, Tisbury station is two minutes from here. Why dont we just catch the train up? Wouldnt it be easier? Probably not, police now tend to search the trains for wanted suspects and someone would probably notice you as well as me anyway. So no, its not easier. For now we just need to keep moving forward to wherever this damn bloody road takes us, and we cant head up to Tammys because her and Bradley are on bloody holiday in Australia. 15 minutes later it seemed that Zoe had been driving around in circles, completely lost and the map was completely useless, and with the snow falling and snow already on the roads this never helped much. Oh my god. Its a sign. Finally someone has the dignity to help drivers by placing a road sign on the road!! Can you read it? Erm sort of, hold on Zoe by then had noticed that the lights were not on full maximum use, which she hoped that the police werent nearby as to discover them or that she would fined for anything ridiculous. Some signs they place, although it does help. I know where we are now. Well where are we? Still in bloody Tisbury, weve been on the road for about an hour and were still in bloody Tisbury. How big is Tisbury anyway? Its a village, so not that big. Dammit! Oh hold on, theres a bloke in the distance, maybe he could give us some directions. Yeah alright then, drive on, as if you were going to anyway. With a bloke in the distance, walking towards their path, this gave the troubled and confused pair a slight bit of hope that they were firstly heading in the correct direction and also that hopefully they could give some directions back towards the M5 motorway. Im such a bloody idiot! Zoe proclaimed as she drove on. No, your not, youre trying very hard to get us to our destination. No one would ever think of doing something like this, they all hate me. Im the weird one remember! The freak!! Firstly, stop saying such despicable things about yourself, for many times I have said this you arent a freak, you never have been and you never will be. Secondly weird is good. We are all individuals and you like you how you are. Minus the cancer, wished I could get rid of that, but I cant and finally I called myself an idiot because thinking of it I drove from the M5 to Baverstock when I first came to work at Orderton Penrose Farm nearly 5 months ago. Gosh its been long! Yes, its been 4 months since you first started, crazy where we end up in such a short space of time. Whats so important about your journey here?

Bloody hell, youre right. Although, back to the journey, were taking journey now, well trying to. I left the directions in the car door, can you see them? Got them. Erm hunny, that bloke seems a little familiar. Oh god Zoe, Drive! Its Bart! Are you shit! Zoe quickly stomped her foot on the accelerator and stormed towards the M5, well tried to make the car go as fast as it could through the faling snow before misguiding her path and took the wrong turn near the end of the long, winding road. Bloody shite, the police are after us, Faster Zoe!! There on our tail Here goes my drivers licence, Zoe shouted as a trail of two police cars were metres away trying to gain speed as Zoe sped what was now over 70mph along the country lanes, where hardly any snow had fallen. Zoe, what time is it, I dont have my watch on me? I, erm, its 8:22pm, why? I need my medication, where did you stick it? Can you hold for 5 minutes whilst I distance off from these pair of twits. Finally a sharp corner allowed Zoe to gain brownie points as the police lost sight of them. Bingo, were free. Yes! Yes! Yes! Both of them were now screaming with joy as they turned a few more roads, which they now had arrived near Fonthill Abbey Wood. Zoe, morphine now!! I need it, oh Christ, damn it. Help!! Hold on. Without any resistance, Zoe pulled over by the wood before getting Andrew out the car and aided him over towards a comfortbale spot, parallel to Blackwood Lake, before darting back to the boot and back passenger seats to retrieve his medication.

Chapter 21: The Lake Shall Be Our Residence Zoe briskly opened the car boot door before slumbering in, her heart pounding as Andrews life was now at risk. No medicine, Shit!! With no luck in the boot, she paced herself towards the back passenger seats to see if anything was available to keep at bay before seeking the nearest hospital. Leaning on her front to see if any bottles were nearby, she found a small bottle in the left hand car door. Ah please be Morphine, which to her luck was. Grabbing the bottle, which was somewhat light, she opened the bottle to check if any was remaining. Brilliant, this should work for now. Clutching the bottle for dear life, she sprinted the distance to where Andrew lay near some rocks before the lake.

The lake was magnificent. The full moon hovering above illuminated the waters to give off a royal blue colour, with the foliage beneath the surface hinting shades of green entwining with the blue. If it hadnt of been for the sphere above, the entire volume of liquid would have remained dull. The wood however lusted with utter darkness. The trees of allsorts surrounding the lake contained a dark, rich bark and with the winter season in force, allowed the place to look horrific but have a sense of fragility at the same time, making the surrounding place look much calmer than it seemed. No wonder the area had been given the title of Blackwood Lake, Andrew thought, as Zoe dived near his person with the remaining bottle. Will this do? Zoe unscrewed the cap off the bottle before allowing Andrew to gaze inside, knowing exactly how much Morphine to intake to ease the pain off. For now, it will work, but it wont last long. How long will it last you, absorbing every last drop? Probably till morning. Oh bloody hell! Here, sit back and drink. Andrew parted his lips allowing Zoe to tilt the bottle, allowing Morphine to slip past the rim and into his mouth and down the throat whilst using her other arm to act a cushion, giving him support for his spine. Ah Jesus, fuck you stupid illness. Hey, lets not get hasty. You alright now. Bit better now, still flipping hurts as heck. Shouldnt we get back on the road? Not with you like this, hold up, Ive got some blankets and coats in the car, the lake will be our residence for the night, in the morning before dawn breaks well be trekking again. Within a few minutes Zoe returned with the extra items, before taking a warm jacket and helping Andrew into it, before taking the one woollen blanket and enveloping him in it, before chucking her own jacket on and taking another blanket and wrapping it around her, shuffling down to attach bodies together, keeping the warmth intact, as he rested his head on her shoulder, her own resting on his as they looked out into the lake. Beautiful isnt it? Something you wouldnt see or expect every day. Zoe took a while to figure what exactly he, presuming that he was talking about the current situation they were in. Dont worry, were fine. The police will find us by morning though. I meant the river, of all the places Ive been to and the landmarks and structures and nature Ive seen, this has by far got to be the most beautiful. Its quite extraordinary, the wonders of the universe and planet. You think youve seen it all and it just gets more fascinating. Better capture the image in my dis-functioning memory before I forget it. Id say despite the terror weve foreseen tonight, this has got to be one of the most beauteous nights of them all. One of them, what are the others. Surely you dont need me to tell you that? Please, do go ahead. Very well then, the first would be of my 10th Birthday. My parents took me to the seaside in Blackpool. I saw the Blackpool tower, the amusement rides and riding on donkeys was fun.

You probably looked really adorable riding them, Zoe gave a little smirk at that remark, making Andrew giggle. Im terrible. Goodness know what Id be like if I rode a horse. You can always try. So, what are the others? Meeting you for one, the night you saved and protected me. That first night I really began to know you, the first night we slept together, even if we were only just friends then. I loved that night, the conclusion of it anyway. Also, the night you stayed by my side at the hospital bed and declared your love to me, no one has ever had the courage to speak of those three words. I thought I was going to die alone, take on the lonely slow path, but you stayed, and for that Im incredibly grateful of. Zoe turned as Andrew finished his heartfelt presentation of memories before cupping the side of his cheek, running her thumb down it as she closed the gap between them, lipping roaming around in the desperate cry for support, growing more eager and hungrier. I love you, no matter what. I vowed that Id take of you till the moment you die, and I have done so far, I havent walked away and given up, and I will strife every moment, intake every heartbeat of you being alive with me, and pocket it for the rest of my own, and no one shall take that from me. You need to carry on your life, take my heart and take my soul, filled with my memories, and lock it secure with your own. But please, for when I am gone, find someone, and stay with him or her. Dont die alone, death is already painful enough as it stands but being alone, dying alone is much worse. I understand Ill have family, my only family with me to watch me go, but please, dont let my life ruin yours. You havent ruined my life, you saved my life. If it hadnt of been for you, Id of probably of left the farm and found some really boing job and eventually die of loneliness, never having someone to share at least part of my life with. Thankfully, you were the calling that kept my soul alive and reawakened my heart, and I thank you for that. And no I shall not marry, maybe find a friend, but not family. You are much too important for me to move on. Why cant we marry? I know I dont have long left but we are sort of married. Were an attachment for one, but I want it to be almost proper, like official. That reminds me, you havent ate today. You need to eat. Oh, and Ive got a pressie for you, I was saving it for later on, but now I think its an idea to give it now. Got some drink Ill bring down too if you want it. Oh erm, Ive got a gift you as well. Its in the passenger side door, in a brown paper bag. Can you fetch it for me with some beans if we have any? Drink will be good too. Sure thing, back in a minute.

Chapter 22: Death Has Come Zoe soon departed, shortly returning with a small carrier bag containing some cups, drink, a can opener, two tins of beans, and her present for him and the paper bag with his own in. Here. She placed the bag into his lap before running into the wood to collect some twigs to make a fire with to heat up the tins of beans. Andrew didnt mind eating them cold, but thought that it would be rather unfair to the both of them, and she wanted to enjoy what was left of their life together; and this would be a great way to do it. Soon enough a fire was made as she opened the cans and heated the tins, giving one to

Andrew and keeping the other one, as they tucked in to some beans with a cup of Coke. Cheers, both synchronised together as they ate what was to be their final meal. You know deep down I wont see Christmas, so well just have to it like this, Andrew turned to Zoe, the flickers of the fire warming the pair up as the embers gave a gorgeous warm and radiant glow to Zoes cheeks, adding texture to her cheekbones. Do, do what? I was meant to give you this on Christmas Day and hopefully the gesture would have succeeded. But, beings as I wont survive till then. Im doing it now. Explaining his destroyed plans, he took out a plush, navy blue box and flicked open the lid. Zoe Georgina Trevena, will you be my wife Youve been saving every moment for this havent you, likewise with me. Well You big dope clotpole of course I will, this is for you by the way, Merry Christmas. Inside the small black box was a ring of the same kind, which Andrew had just given Zoe, an engagement with the words I Love You engraved on the inside. You got me the same ring? Oh, and what exactly is a clotpole? I guess I have, I was intending to propose on Christmas Day as well, oh and for the definition of a clotpole, I dont really know, it just randomly came up in my mind. Well, what can we say, great minds think alike. Will you do me this one final favour now for me, Andrew pleaded as he slipped the ring onto her finger, her doing the same, declaring their love for each other. Help me die. What, weve, it was going so well. Why on earth would come up with that, you need to avoid that situation. But I cant can I, Im on the run, Im a wanted criminal; however innocent of my actions, Id rather kill myself knowing Ive achieved one thing in my life then to let it be slipped away from me. Im living on heaps of medication and living on morphine because of the drugs and Im taking the drugs because of the pain. Thats all I feel, its unbearable, the pain. Thats it! And that is all I will forever feel. I dont want to give in but I have to. Its either going to be die from just pain and be helpless or actually feel something, even if it is the pain! Zoe, now totally shaken by his request, silent began to weep. I was going to spend my whole life with you, live and go on together, get married and have kids. None of that will happen now. But it has, maybe no children at hand but youve been the centre of my life for a while, you will remain that way. In a way were now married and Id have spent my whole life with you. What about me? How do you expect me to live on? Losing you Ill have nothing left in my life and Ill just go and kill myself. If you die, I die Please dont do this Zoe, you kept me alive. You being alive keeps me alive. How do you expect to kill yourself? The lake, swim to the middle. Take one last breath, one last memory of you and drown. Are you sure you want to do this? Ive never been so sure of anything in my life, tonight I have felt so alive and now I want to let it slide.

Alright now, your wish is granted. But Im coming with you, and dont you dare try and stop me! Before completing their final adventure, she took the rubbish to a nearby bin and then placed all the belongings back into the car before locking it and glancing at it for one final time, looking upon could have been their get out of jail free card, before shoving the keys in her jacket pocket and returning to the lake, shivering cold and trembling with fright, but knowing they were both brave as heck.

Chapter 23: I Will Forever Love You Both were now at the lake, as they began to remove their shoes and socks and other unnecessary items, Zoe helping Andrew due to the laces of his boots before removing her own. Once completed, Zoe hid the remainders in the woods before aiding Andrew to the shores of the lake, walking far enough for him to be able to swim across to the centre, herself soon following him. Jesus Shite! Its cold! Zoe cursed allowed as she entered the waters. The lake was below freezing, much colder than the temperatures in the atmosphere, which the weather had been predicted for the night as of 6pm on the news at 9C, so therefore

the waters must have been at least -15C. Both were surprised that the lake hadnt frozen over. Well, it would help if we were to die from hypothermia, Andrew declared as he made every effort to swim across the body of water, before remaining perfectly calm as Zoe soon followed. Give me a second! Before Andrew could ask why Zoe wanted some time, she engulfed herself beneath the surface. Hold on! Its not meant to happen like this. If were going to be taken then were doing this together. Not long after Zoe reproached the surface, coughing and spluttering as she broke away. I wasnt going to start ahead and leave you to it. Id never do that. Then why enter beneath the waters then? I needed to check that the late was deep enough in order for us to complete our mission. You seem scared. Scared, Im bleeding petrified. You are completely impossible! But I understand that you want to end this suffering in the most brave way possible. Being honest I think hypothermia will kill us off before we even begin to sink, Andrew began to chuckle worriedly as his body began to feel numb, knowing its now that they have to succeed or never. My feet are numb, I cant properly feel my legs. Its so cold!! Right, Ill go down first, and then pull you under. Take one final breath above the surface and then allow the water to fill your lungs and insides, and hope for the best. Do it!! Im glad to be able to share my final moments with you, I just cant do it any other way. Its either die with someone I love or die lonely, Id rather choose the former. I love you Andrew George Thackeray! And I, with the last beats of my heart remaining, love you Zoe Georgina Thackeray, I will forever love you. Speaking their final words to each other, Zoe took her final breath of life before plummeting beneath the surface, her right hand grabbing Andrews arm as she fumbled a set of handcuffs on their hands that she nicked from Tims police outfit from when he disguised himself as an officer, making sure they were properly attached as they died. Beneath the waters, Zoes almost perfect vision dropped to partially impaired. The water was muggy and dark, the only light coming from the sphere above, as she tugged Andrew down with her. His last breath was short and sharp, his whole body trembling benumbed. Both now beneath the surface, they tried to keep their mouths open. The water was vile, tasted of utter disgust and it was filthy as muck. Trying to make communication from eye contact, Zoe cupped Andrews face and locking lips for the final time, pulling one another towards them, bodies colliding together as the entwined their legs and wrapped their arms around each other, well tried to, remembering that they had cuffs attaching them, before closing their eyes for the last time and began to sink towards the bed, keeping the final image of their lovers in their mind.

Chapter 24: Suicide Took Them Any calls from Darren yet? It had been 4 days since Zoe and Andrew had left the couples house to make a move up to Cumbria where they would meet Robs friend, Darren. Nope, Rob called from the kitchen as Tim trotted in from work and closed the door behind him. Surely theyd be there by now, someone would have phoned. Hold on, Ill give a Darren a ring once Ive finished dinner.

Dialling the number of Darrens on the telephone, Rob and Tim sat cautiously waiting for a response from the ones friend. Hello? Darren, its Rob, have they reached Cumbria yet? No, in fact Ive been worried on whether they had actually reached the first stop of the night, surely theyd of phoned you to mention that theyve reached Holy shit!!! Tim had departed the lounge to make a quick exit for the bathroom when he noticed a small, clear bag near the door of Zoe and Andrews former room. Rob, come here quick! Got to go! Without a response from the receiver Rob dropped the phone back into its position before bounding up the narrow stairs. Tim, are you alright? Rob, look at the bag. How didnt we notice this? We both agreed not to bother with the remainder of their possessions until they arrived in Cumbria, so it would have gone unnoticed. Could that mean.. Oh my god no! Its my fault hes Now hush dear, its both our faults. They couldnt have returned due to the police being on the prowl so what other choice did they have. They could be Tim torn into pieces whimpering into Robs jumper, the pair soon set out with equipment in search for the pair. Should we call the police and the rest of the Orderton Penrose Farm household? Not yet, only if it is truly necessary. Within seconds, both were in the car racing towards the M5, as they left Tisbury. Stop a minute! I see something in the distance, they look like tyre tracks from the wheels of Zoes car. But why the hell would she change direction and head for Fonthill Abbey Wood. Never mind, answers now, questions later. They took the route, following the tracks when another clue led them deeper into finding out results. Hold a minute! Youll crash into that car! As they approached the distance with Rob slowing down, the car became more familiar. Thats Oh my goodness. Theyre here!!. Turning off the engine, they realised that it would be impossible to find the pair in pitch darkness. Well have to wait till dawn. We also need to find a telephone of some sort to ring the police. Calling off the search for the night, the twosome settled uncomfortably into the seats of the car for their daily slumber. Dawn finally broke at around 7am. Right now they should be home celebrating the near approach of Christmas Day together with Zoe and Andrew, rather than searching for the pair, with the possibility of not one but two deaths. Rob was the first to awake to the dusty blue cloud hovering above them as the sun settled into the sky, still incredibly bitter outside, with the odd patches of snow lying around the wood. Tim! Wake up! Cmon, weve got bodies to find! Tim lazily awoke, allowing an extensive yawn to pass him as he shifted from his side to sit fully upright, before finding extra layers of clothing from the backseats as opened the car door, being incredibly attentive to slip on the now icy paths and road, Rob soon joining him. Firstly, we need to phone the police, so therefore we need a phone box, or a house! Shout if you find anything! You take the left, Ill take the right!

The party of two split into either direction, as Rob approached a small cottage near the wood and gently knocked on the door, hoping he hadnt disturbed the occupants too much as it was still quite early. Hello, may I help you Sir? A young woman answered the door half awake, still in her nightwear. Can I use your phone please? I need to call emergency services. Something wrong my love? Yes, two people are known to be missing, weve found their vehicle but no bodies. This could be a murder or suicide occurred earlier on. Of course, come inside. Hold on a minute. Tim! Over here! Hearing the cry, Tim followed the howl to the small cottage and they both stepped inside. Emergency Services, how can I help? All gathering in the front room of the young ladys, all were on the edge of finding the pair. Can you put me through to D.I. David Whitlock please. Its an emergency! Of course. Give me a minute. Hello D.I. Whitlock speaking Whitlock, I need your team here. Weve found the car belonging to Zoe Trevena and Andrew Thackeray, you know, your suspect for the murder of Julia Clarke. Where about? Fonthill Abbey Wood, just past the Anchor Pub Who is this by the way? Timothy Clayton, the guy who fired the shots in the court room over a month ago at Andrews trial. I know Im in trouble, but so are they. The car is there but no bodies at present Be there in 20 minutes. Back out on the icy roads near the car, a load of police vehicles arrived with the team inside them. Morning Mr Clayton and partner. Look, you can arrest both later. Right now, we need to find them. Both of you, why does he need to be under arrest for He was the police officer in disguise. Oh, never mind for now, cmon. Search all areas of the wood to begin with. All individuals took the woods to search for the missing pair. 2 hours into the search, it was as if you were searching for a fine needle in a hedge. They were nowhere to be seen. Morrison, call on the search for the pair within a 10 mile radius. They couldnt have gone far, as so as these pair speak. What makes you think that? We found Andrews medication bag at the house. He received a new batch not long ago. All is still here in the bag. The car couldnt have had hardly any. So therefore, he couldnt have gone far due to unbearable pain he would be in. Where are the keys? Dont know. Theyd probably be still on Zoe. Great, check the car as well.

Weve found a bottle. Not in the car though, theres none in there. Over here by the rocks, one officer called as the rest joined him. Analysing the bottle, D.I. Whitlock noticed it was quite old and could only just read the description of the patient. Its been here a while. The rim is dry and it belongs to him. Theyve been here more than 12 hours. Weve found left over food in the car! All have searched. A young officer approached the D.I. No one with the description has left the area on public transport or have been seen in the area. Thats means two things. One they are still here and two they have either been murdered or they have taken their lives in that lake. As they approached the lake, one of the officers took a tumble. Damn rock Sir shoes and socks! Everyone stopped and turned back toward the inner wood. Zoe and Andrew were wearing those items the night they left. That means they havent changed clothing, which means, theyve been nearly here for about 3 days, Tim spoke with ultimate accuracy. Hmm, food left over, no car keys, fuel tank full, shoes and socks from the first day that theyve left, no medication on persons at the time. Theyve got to be dead. Why would a murderer strip them of their footwear? Its got to be suicide. Suicide took them. Shock approached everyones faces, almost certain that they took their own lives. It would be easier for to swim with hardly any clothing, makes them more streamlined. They must be in Blackwood Lake! Fetch the dinghy! Before the dinghy had even been fully ready for usage, one of the officers noticed something with ginger hair bobbing up and down near the surface, the strong winds creating higher waves, exposing more objects. Oh my god! Boys, think Ive found someone! Setting the dinghy ashore, they paddled into the centre to discover the object, occasionally dropping beneath the surface, trying to collide with the object. D.I. Whitlock dropped over the surface, plummeting into the freezing waters before sinking beneath to retrieve the object. Its human. Pulling the body up not only lay one body, but also both. Noticing the bodies being dragged aboard Tim froze and collapsed in shock before screaming with anger and frustration, Rob soon following him before a paramedic scooping them aside to allow the dinghy to return to shallow waters. A call had already gone out for a few ambulances and for the Orderton Penrose Farm household to arrive at Blackwood Lake. Mr Clayton can you confirm the bodies? To the left lay Andrew, lying still with his curly hair sticking to his forehead, lips blue as he froze to death. To his right lay Zoe, her hair entangled with her clothing and partially entangled with Andrews, also frozen to death, as their legs remained entwined and the cuffs remained together, the arms frozen in place as if they were cuddling with strife in their last moments, and finally a ring on each of their marriage fingers. To the left is Andrew Sir, and to the right is Zoe. Take them away and do post mortem on them. Oh, Mr Wilson, we meet again. Thanks boys for bringing the other suspects and the other members of the household down

Hello, why have you called us out this early of a morning when the station is much warmer. To show you exactly what one false trace can lead to. Before the bodies were stretchered away, the white sheet was lifted to show the results. As soon as Verity saw the pair, she ran for the car before one of the officers grabbed her and brought her back to fully analyse. See, one mistake can cause this. Two people who clearly loved each other more than anything in this universe and you couldnt leave them be. Forever taunting the male, abusing him. Disrespecting the female, going against your word to make sure she found a partner. She wouldnt have lasted long with him anyway. Look at the rings, look at the cuffs. They were going to be together for eternity, and as there souls now arise into heaven they can be, without pain and suffering and now finally at peace. Mr Wilson, you are one cold, sadistic male and should be ashamed of your self. As for the rest of you, you should all be as well. They were happy for each other and you turned against them. For shame I say, for shame You should all be put to death for this outrage of hurt!!! Tim shouted as he stumbled backwards into the ambulance, falling into Rob as the doors were shut. Bart, I want a divorce, you revolting swine!!! Oh and Bart, before you decide to kill my girlfriend, Im moving out while I can. Make that three Bart! Doors slammed shut as the ambulances and Whitlocks car rode into the foggy distance heading towards Salisbury as Bart stood silent at the crime scene with other occupants of Orderton Penrose Farm, scrutinising at the horror before their eyes, before Bart was hurdled back into the remaining police car to be driven back to the station, leaving Verity, who had now been released as a suspect, and Gavin and Mark, to return to the car to drive back to Baverstock, leaving the grim crime scene once and for all, hoping no one would ever make residence here.
