New Hire Orientation Checklist

OBJECTIVE AND BACKGROUND

The primary purpose of a new hire orientation is to help new hires adapt to the company and to provide them with the knowledge and resources they need to be productive employees within the first week of employment. In a nutshell, your new hire orientation should say Welcome, we want you to succeed! According to the National Research Bureau, the one thing a company cannot afford is a failed orientation. Orientations fail when they are: Not engaging Non-existent Not organized Not supported by leadership within the company Failed orientations end up costing the company time, money, and increased risk of turnover and employee dissatisfaction.

INSTRUCTIONS
The orientation process consists of several phases and begins from the moment the applicant accepts the offer to join your company. Phase 1 - Before New Hire Starts Phase 2 - Day One Phase 3 - First Week of Employment The greater effort you put into the new hire orientation, the better the results. The new hire orientation process does take time, but it shouldnt be cumbersome. The activities and tasks involved should have a direct correlation to success of the new hires adaptation to your company. The new hire orientation checklist below focuses on tasks that begin right after the applicant accepts through the first week of employment. It captures the milestone tasks in this process and is not all-inclusive - you will need to make it your own. Once the new hire orientation checklist is completed, we recommend that you file it in the employees personnel file for future reference.
