How to configure Avira under an NComputing Virtual Desktop environment

Overview If you want to connect the L-Series device through a host( NComputing terminal server) where the Avira AntiVir is installed, the connection will be refused with the following error message Terminal Server - yet not ready. Please, retry attempt a bit later. All AntiVir desktop products are affected since they have released version 9 from 17 March 09. The problem has started with the following version number for each product - Avira AntiVir Professional, version 9.0.0.703 - Avira AntiVir Premium, version 9.0.0.420 - Avira AntiVir Premium Security Suite, version 9.0.0.355 - Avira AntiVir Personal (only for private use), version 9.0.0.386 To keep your connection further associated to installed Avira Premium or Security Suite, we would recommend you the following procedure:

(1) Firewall security level To allow incoming connections on your computer system where the Terminal Server software is installed the Avira firewall security level needs to be changed to medium. To define the security level for Firewall: Double-click the Avira umbrella icon on the desktop, to start the AntiVir Control Center, select the section Online Protection :: Firewall. Move the slider to medium. The selected security level is applied immediately.

(2) AntiVir Product protection In AntiVir Control Center, click on Extras :: Configuration and activate the option Expert mode afterwards go to General :: Security and remove both hooks on product protection. Click Apply to safe changes.

(3) Registry customization Click on Start :: Run and type regedit. Click OK. In the Registry Editor go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\avipbb\ and select the entry InternalFlags, press right-click on the entry and select Modify. Change the value to 31(hexadecimal) from the Value data box and click OK.

(4) Restart your computer After adding these changes and a restart of the host machine will be the connection with the L-Series device to the host (NComputing vSpace) possible. Please note, this workaround will limit the Avira product protection, but not the Antivirus protection. Avira is working on a solution that this workaround will not be any longer necessary in future versions of AntiVir.
