The summertime publication for The Williams School community

The Williams School works with each child to build an enduring foundation for academic, moral, and social success. Williams School students embody integrity, confidence, discipline, and a love of learning.

The Williams School is full of activity and excitement today preparing for the arrival of teachers and staff on Monday. We will have a very full week getting ready to greet students on Monday, August 27th. Among the faculty for the 2012-13 school year we are welcoming three new members. Whitney Nexson A graduate of Norfolk Academy (2006) and the University of Richmond (2010), Whitney is a Norfolk native and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in English and a minor in Secondary Education. She also studied at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Whitney comes to The Williams School by way of Richmond Public Schools, where she taught middle school English. Orientation Plan for the 2012-2013 School Year

Back by popular demand, we will be using the same format for orientation in response to the positive feedback that we received after orientation last year. Again, this format should help parents of multiple children attend several orientations. Middle school students will be oriented to school during the first week and then middle school parents will come back on the evening of Wednesday, September 5th for a parent orientation. We have found that in the past many questions concerning the middle school come up after the first week students are in school. We thought having the middle school orientation after the first week would allow our middle school students time to convey information home first, and then teachers could follow-up with an evening orientation with parents to talk about the classroom specifics and answer any questions. We are looking forward to the coming school year.

August 23th 5:00 pm - Kindergarten Parent classroom orientation held prior to the New Parent Dinner.

Tidewater Community Helpers - Support for TWS Our community has several programs to raise money for The Williams School.

Harris Teeter Its Time to Re-Link!

Starting August 1st each year, parents and community members are able to link their VIC cards to TWSs Together in Education school code. This one time sign up process must take place each school year. The school of your choice is linked to your VIC card until May 31. You can link your VIC card to up to five schools and Harris Teeter will evenly distribute funds to the schools. How to Link: Its easy and its FREE. Simply give the cashier our code, TIE4369 and your VIC card when you check out and your card will be linked for the entire school year. Thats it! You only have to link your VIC card once each school year. Once your card is linked, The Williams School will receive a percentage of your Harris Teeter brand and Pharmacy purchases credited back to our account. This program does not interfere with your VIC savings or cost you any money! Dont forget to link your VIC card to our account code next time you are shopping at Harris Teeter. You can also register online with TWS code TIE4369at http://www.harristeeter.com/community/together_in_education/link_to_your_school.aspx.

Farm Fresh

Simply, save the 123-4 Farm Fresh receipts during the school year. More information to come in September. All you have to do is deposit all receipts and labels to Nancy Keating in the front office. Thank you for all your support!

Caroline Herre hosted a reunion on August 14th of everyone who had ever been in her class K-8 at TWS. She located 30 people; 3 had moved away and 20 came! They enjoyed a nostalgic game of basketball on TWS playground.

The Williams School sends its best wishes to the Class of 2008 alumni as they are off to college this fall!
