1. (a) List out any two attachments for the lathe and justify its function for process-
ing the work.
(b) Describe the facing lathe with neat sketches and specify its main features.
[8+8]
2. (a) What is the difference between Rotary Transfer and Linear Transfer Machine
Tools?
(b) Compare the General purpose and NC Machine Tools. [8+8]
3. Calculate the intermediate speeds if the lowest rpm is 10 and the highest rpm is 450.
The number of steps is 12 and the speeds are laid out in Logarithmic progression.
Limiting cutting speed is 20 meters per minute. Draw the saw diagram on log-log
graph paper. (Note: one can use semi-log graph paper if log-log graph sheets are
not available after converting diameters into corresponding log values). [16]
4. (a) Explain with neat sketch the kinematic diagram of feed drive in engine lathe.
(b) What is the purpose of feed rod and lead screw in the engine lathe? [8+8]
5. (a) Compare the merits and demerits of cast iron beds versus welded bases.
(b) Compare the cast iron guides and hardened guides. [8+8]
6. (a) Compare the tapered roller bearing (TRB) and angular contact ball bearing
for spindles
(b) What are preloading of a bearing and what type of bearing arrangement re-
quires preloading? [8+8]
7. (a) List out the applications of hydraulic and Pneumatics actuators and controls
in the machine tools.
(b) Describe with neat sketches any three types of Hydraulic pumps and their
applications in Machine Tools. [8+8]
8. Explain the functions of the following with examples:
(a) Relief valve
(b) Check valves
(c) Flow control valves. [16]

chines for processing the flat surfaces. [8+8]
2. Explain any two types of the following machines with simple sketches.
3. (a) How do you select range of speeds in the design of gear boxes.
(b) What is support- drive? Explain. [8+8]
5. For a NC machine select the suitable machining elements and discuss its function-
alities:
(a) Structure
(b) Guide and guide ways
(c) Lubrication [16]
6. (a) Compare the tapered roller bearing (TRB) and angular contact ball bearing
for spindles
