DETAILS of INSTALLATION
Loading SL Console code onto a library's local operator panel will require the use of a remote SL Console instance. You will need the local operator panel code on, or accessible by the computer on which you are running your remote instance. Note that additional, detailed help is also available from within the SL Console itself, via its HELP tab. This information is available only after logging in. Also note that loading and activating local operator panel code should not affect any active library operations. It will however affect any operations being issued from the local operator panel, such as exercisers or diagnostics.

Loading New Local Operator Panel SL Console Code

Preparation: 1) Obtain the latest release of the SL Console software, which Sun service personnel can get from the USR or Partners/Customers from SDLC or SPE Sun web sites. Log in to the web site, and download the most recent version. See Related Sun Web Sites for URL's. 2) For the local operator panel you will need the latest SLConsoleLocalDist.jar file. 3) Ensure the local operator panel is not in use by anyone else, and that it will not be interfered with during this upgrade procedure. 4) Open a remote SL Console instance, and log into the library on which you wish to upgrade the local operator panel SL Console software. Load Procedure: 1) In the Tools menu, choose Diagnostics

2) Select the Load Code tab in the central area of the window

3) Click the Browse button and find the SLConsoleLocalDist.jar you downloaded earlier 4) Confirm it's the version you want (via the FILE CONTENTS), and click the Load button when ready, in the upper right-central area of the window.

5) Shortly after clicking Load, you will get a message which asks you to confirm before the upgrade will continue. Do so by clicking the OK button.

6) The code will load and show a percent complete status, after which the UNPACK STATUS area in the center of the window will update and tell you the result of your upload. Unpack completed means it worked, Unpack failed means it didn't. If it didn't work, try again, or consult the User's guide of the library for further guidance.

IMPORTANT NOTE: During the download process to the library you may experience a transfer time-out. If this occurs over a network or directly attached using a cross-over, your system may be running the Ethernet connection at 100Mbps. Change the network settings for your connection to reflect 10Mbps/FULL DUPLEX instead of AUTO or 100Mbps. Also note that the upload could take several minutes, and will depend on the network. 7) Now that the code is loaded, it must be activated. Choose the Activate tab in the center of the window and choose SLConsole from the Target drop down menu. Note that there will be a short pause while this information is gathered.

8) After picking the version you just uploaded, click the Activate button in the upper rightcentral area of the window

CAUTION: POTENTIAL INTERNAL FILE CORRUPTION. Do not reboot or power off the local operator panel while code is being activated. 9) After clicking Activate, you will be prompted to continue, and will be informed that the local operator panel will be rebooted in the process of upgrading its software

10) The activation process may take a few minutes, but the status display will update and you will be informed when the process completes.

If there were no errors during the procedure, you are finished. Go to the local operator panel and confirm that it is now running the new version as desired.

Upgrading or Installing a Remote SL Console and Web Launch

There are two ways to install a remote SL Console instance. Either via the installers for a supported platform, which can be download from the same USR link provided earlier, or via Java Web Launch. Further details for both options are available in the User's Guide.
