WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER TWENTY SEVEN TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING: TYPHOON IGME (TEMBIN) ISSUED AT 11:00 PM, 27 AUGUST 2012 (Valid for broadcast until the next bulletin to be issued at 5 AM tomorrow)

TYPHOON IGME HAS ACCELERATED AS IT RE-ENTERED THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY.


Location of eye/center: Strength: Movement: Forecast Positions: At 10:00 PM today, the eye of Typhoon IGME was located based on satellite and surface data at 200 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes (21.3N, 120.1E). Maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. Northeast at 17 kph. Typhoon IGME is expected to be at 400 km North of Basco, Batanes by tomorrow evening. By Wednesday morning, it will be 590 km North of Basco, Batanes or 160 km North Northeast of Taipei, Taiwan.

Potential Impacts of the Winds


Some coconut trees maybe tilted with few others broken Few big trees maybe uprooted. Many bananas plants maybe downed. Rice and corn maybe adversely affected. Large number of nipa and cogon houses maybe partially or totally uproofed Some old galvanized iron roofings maybe peeled off. In general, the winds may bring light to moderate damage to the exposed communities. Twigs and branches of trees may be broken Some banana plants may tilt or land flat on the ground Rice in flowering stage may suffer significant damage Some nipa and cogon houses may be partially unroofed Sea travel of small seacrafts and fishing boats is risky

Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands

Estimated rainfall amount is from 10-20 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within the 600 km area of the typhoon. Typhoon Igme will enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over the western section of Northern and Central Luzon. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon due to big waves generated by Typhoon Igme. The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 AM tomorrow.
