ICIS is a global publisher of industry news and intelligence for the chemical industry and comprises a weekly magazine (ICIS Chemical Business), weekly chemical, fertilizer, oil and gas pricing reports (ICIS pricing), a data and analytics team, consultancy services and a conference business. During my time at ICIS, I have been reporting in depth on world petrochemical markets, the logistics and distribution industry, and companies new project and investment plans. I have used different media including podcasting, video recording and editing, presenting on ICIS TV and compiling electronic newsletters. I have travelled around Europe attending key industry events and meeting companies on a regular basis.

PRODUCT PROFILES: Since 2000, I have also been managing and editing the magazines product profile section, which has become a valued resource for readers and regarded as the most popular section of the magazine. The profile is a weekly summary on an individual chemical market with information gleaned from interviews with producers, buyers, traders and distributors. Besides writing copy for the profiles, my role was widened to collate, manage and verify input from over 100 ICIS journalists worldwide, as well as liaising with key consultants.

CONFERENCES: Over several years, I have helped to research and attract speakers to the annual ICIS European aromatics conference. In addition, a three-month secondment (April 2006) was taken to organize the ICIS 6th Global PVC (polyvinyl chloride) conference in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. As well as choosing the agenda, my role included canvassing and recruiting speakers for the event in November 2006, which attracted nearly 100 delegates and returned a healthy profit.

RESEARCH: Among my early achievements was the development of the groups chemical databases, the foundations of which helped to support the growth of the business internally and externally. This was used both as a research tool for the chemical journals and as an ancillary revenue source, and helped to develop my analytical, organisational and research skills. Databases included: Plants and projects Process technologies available for licence Storage terminals Mergers and acquisitions
