As you watch over us, were sure you know how much you are missed.

Words cannot express the sorrow and sadness that fill our hearts every day. The joy we feel knowing that you are in the House of The Lord keeps us going. If there is a newspaper up in Heaven, we know you are the Editor, and are filling its pages with happy news. In times of happiness and tribulation, know that we are always thinking about you and remember the things you have said and done to keep us motivated. Give us the strength to keep your dream alive, and to build on what we have made. We miss your presence constantly as we start each day, continuing to bring your dream to life. Continue to watch over us and keep us moving forward, as we try every day to make you proud. Missing someone gets easier every day, because even though it is one day farther from the last time we saw each other, it is one day closer to the next time we will meet. Keep on Drummin Gina, and we will see you again.

Faith Uniteds Paper Products Collection

On Saturday, August 18th, Faith United Presbyterian Church accepted donations of toilet tissue and paper towels from the community. Faith United reached out to the community to ask their participation by dropping off a bundle of either toilet tissue or paper towels or both at Faith Church. This was a way to assist people in need as these paper products are not available with food stamps or at local food pantries. The donated paper products were then distributed to families and individuals selected by our non-profit partners. The great response allowed for a second distribution during Faith Churchs August 25th community luncheon. Pastor Ruth Ann Christopher said: We were both pleased and humbled to be able to lend a helping hand to people in need. And it was a real blessing that so much of the community supported us in this project. More information about the event is available on Faith Uniteds website at www.faithupc.net.

Older Adults at High Risk for Flu, a Leading Cause of Hospitalization and Even Death for Those 65 and Over
(NAPSI)Over the next decade, millions of baby boomers will begin their well-earned transition into retirement. This unique stage in life allows retirees time to do more of the things they love like enjoy time with friends and family, but it also comes with the added responsibility of keeping a closer eye on health to maintain an active lifestyle. It may then come as a surprise to learn that despite the fact that older adults are over 16 times more likely to be hospitalized due to the flu and its related complications than younger adults, nearly 30 percent of Americans age 65 and older remained unvaccinated this past flu season. As people age, the immune system weakens, which puts adults 65 and older at increased risk for flu. In fact, each year in the United States, more than nine out of 10 flu-related deaths and six out of 10 flu-related hospitalizations occur in adults 65 and older. Annual flu vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect against the flu each season. To help increase awareness about the dangers flu poses to older adults, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) has launched the Flu + You campaign. This educational program aims to educate older Americans, their caregivers, and family members about the seriousness of influenza in older adults, the importance of annual vaccination, and the available vaccine options for adults 65 and older. A recent survey of middle-age and older adults found that almost 90 percent would seek vaccination after getting information from their doctor and two-thirds also noted that friends and family could influence their vaccination decision. To help bring a health providers perspective, Dr. Carolyn B. Bridges, Associate Director for Adult Immunizations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has joined the Flu + You campaign to emphasize the importance of annual vaccination for older adults. A flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older, said Dr. Bridges. Its critical for adults 65 and older to get vaccinated because they are at greatest risk for developing severe complications of influenza when they get infected. Adults in this age group have two available optionsthe traditional flu shot and a higher dose flu shot, which is designed to address the decline of the immune system with age. Both of these vaccines are covered by Medicare. The higher dose shot triggers the body to produce more antibodies against the flu virus than would be produced by the traditional shot. Antibodies are the soldiers of the immune system that help respond and protect against infection. No matter how healthy or youthful you may feel or appear, older adults are highly susceptible to the flu, said Richard Birkel, PhD, MPA, acting senior vice president of Healthy Aging and director of NCOAs SelfManagement Alliance, while stressing the specific danger the flu poses to older adults. NCOA hopes that through education, older adults will realize how serious the flu is and make vaccination a priority. Speak with your health care provider about the dangers of the flu, the benefits of vaccination, and the best vaccine option to meet your needs. And remember, getting your flu vaccination not only helps protect you, but helps to prevent the spread of the flu to friends and family. To learn more about these important health messages, please visit www.NCOA.org/Flu where youll find access to more information on the Flu + You campaign, as well as educational materials available for download. Flu + You is a program of the National Council on Aging in collaboration with Sanofi Pasteur.

Care For Caregivers: Help You Can Trust

(NAPSI)Charlotte Elliott of Georgia is a widow whose beloved husband of 40 years, Glen, passed away from brain cancer five years ago. Living alone and with limited family in the area, Charlotte was looking for help that she could trust. Homeowners Go Tankless to Resolve Hot Water Woes

(NewsUSA) - The average household has enough to worry about each day -- from deciding when to start dinner to which load of laundry to wash first. The last thing anyone needs to worry about is having sufficient hot water for giving the kids baths, washing dishes, doing laundry -- or, if you're lucky -- relaxing in a long hot shower. This, among other reasons, is why so many homeowners are making the decision to go tankless. Rinnai tankless water heaters give homeowners the flexibility of ondemand hot water whenever they need it. Because the water is heated only as needed, there's always enough to meet the demands of hot showers, baths, laundry and dishwashing -- even if these are done simultaneously. With a traditional tank-style water heater, however, once the stored water is depleted, it can take up to 33 minutes to heat the tank again. "Today's homeowners are realizing they don't have to schedule their lives around their hot water anymore, and many also want to make wise long-term home improvement investments with significant return. The decision to go tankless simply makes sense," explains Kerri Walker, senior marketing manager at Rinnai. The Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute estimates that operating a tankless water heater can cost 24 to 34 percent less than a traditional tank heater. Some tankless units, such as those manufactured by Rinnai, allow homeowners to save up to 40 percent on energy bills because a tankless unit does not have to heat and re-heat like a traditional water tank

How To Design A Bedroom That Unleashes Your Childs Creativity

(NAPSI)Many parents may be surprised to learn that, according to Harris research, children begin taking an interest in changing their rooms just after the age of 5, citing more space to hang out and play as the No. 1 wish for the space. The study also found that 71 percent of parents think the design of a childs room impacts creativity. Weve seen how room design can unleash a childs creativity in our own family, said Cortney Novogratz from HGTVs Home by Novogratz. For example, its important to give children their own workspace and play space filled with materials designed to help express their ideas in a productive and inspirational way, like arts and crafts supplies and construction toys such as LEGO Friends. Its also important to give children plenty of floor space in which to play and get creative; this gives them their own personal space in which to spread out and use their imaginations to the fullest. In addition to inviting children to put their remodeling and rebuilding skills to the test using toys that encourage construction, Robert and Cortney Novogratz offer these suggestions for creating those special environments that children will find inspiring and parents will find appealing: Give kids more space. Leave as much floor space open for playing and hanging out as possible. Center the room with a soft rug and include easy storage solutions. The most effective storage is easily accessible to kids, where they can pull it out, play with their toys and be able to put it back without any help. The best storage solutions do not dominate the room but cleverly do the job without taking up too much space. Kids need room to build, paint, create and so on but they also need supplies to do so, so try to keep storage solutions simple. Show children their ideas have value by including them in the design decision-making process as much as possible, letting them offer their ideas. Bear in mind that boys and girls are equally interested in having a say in the design of their rooms. Learn more. For further visual inspiration from the Novogratz on how to put these tips into action, visit LEGO BuildTogether.com or call (800) 838-9647.

does. "No one leaves their car on all the time, as -among other things -- it would waste too much gas. Tankless technology is of a similar mindset. You're using energy only when you need hot water," adds Walker. To calculate how much energy your household could save by switching to a tankless water heater, go to www.rinnai.us/tanklesswaterheater-energy-savings-calculator. The tool also shows how many trees a tankless water heater can save by reducing a home's overall carbon footprint.

Garden Dilemmas? Ask Mary!

for critters or check maturity. Who will buy that ear now? My Mom always said if a worm likes the ear so will you. But if you are squeamish a peak at the top of the ear without stripping is appropriate. You can feel the kernel maturity by grabbing around its girth. I think the worst produce abuse I heard of was a customer husking their intended purchase leaving the husks in the remaining pile and then cast the ears aside as they opted for the white corn. Thankfully a kind observer bought the perfectly wonderful ears. Doug Race brought me to stitches as he remarked buying produce is not like picking a spouse. Live on the edge a little and buy the darn tomato. You can buy by your eye he advised rather than leaving bruised ones behind. Apples are coming in and if you have hesitation about making a 3-pound commitment buy one of each kind to try and come back to buy your apple of choice. Sounds like good advice Doug. I should have thought of that when I was choosing a spouse! Garden dilemmas? askmarystone@gmail. com.

Blackout Shades Proven to Help You Sleep Soundly

The shades are made of Comfortex's blackout cellular fabric, which not only blocks incoming light, but also provides insulation around your windows to help reduce heating and cooling costs. When SlumberShades are installed over a double-paned vinyl window, they provide an R-value of 7.0, which is two to three times greater than that of a similar shade without sidetracks. SlumberShades need not be limited to the bedroom. Install them in a media room to eliminate screen glare. For more information about SlumberShades, visit comfortex.com.

Hello fellow readers, Produce is plentiful and I hope you are visiting local stands to savor the bounty and support our farmers. I have been stocking up at Races Farm and am reminded of the behavior of shoppers experienced while working at a roadside stand as a teen. Overall I think people have good intentions and do not mean to abuse veggies but lets talk about produce etiquette. While searching for ripe produce people tend to squeeze to check softness which results in a bruise. They pick tomatoes up and rather than gently returning them to their spot they often drop them causing the stack to shift. If you hear something moving its bruising, Doug Race said. I am astonished that customers husk corn halfway to look

(NewsUSA) - Do you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep through the night? The importance of a good night's sleep is well known. According to the National Sleep Foundation, adequate sleep has been associated with a better mood, better health and better job performance. It's important to address factors that might interfere with a good night's sleep. Light is one of these factors. The body responds to light as a cue to stay awake, so sleeping in a dark, quiet room can help you fall asleep, stay asleep and wake up refreshed. A full night's sleep is especially important for children. Studies suggest that most children need about nine hours of sleep each night and that children who get enough sleep behave better and perform better in school than those who are chronically sleepdeprived. Additional research has shown that children who have sleep problems are at greater risk for depression and anxiety later in life, and they are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol

as teens and adults. The Cellular SlumberShade, the official window shade product of the National Sleep Foundation, can help improve sleep by keeping excess light out of a room. The SlumberShade features unique sidetracks that attach magnetically to a window frame for easy installation. When it's time to clean the windows, the sidetracks are easy to remove. These sidetracks block the gaps of light that standard cellular shades let in. They are UV stable, available in several colors to match your window trim. In addition, all SlumberShades have a specialized seal along the top for complete blockage of exterior light.

Are You Academically Organized?

We have a test today? Most of us have had the experience of completely forgetting something very important. Unfortunately, for some students the experience is chronic with every exam and assignment coming as a surprise. This is not a matter of intelligence, but rather a knack for planning ahead. The basic skill needed for academic success is organization. Advanced knowledge of where and when your class meets, which weekly assignments are due, and when exams are scheduled is essential. Using an academic organizer app on your smartphone or laptop , or a traditional weekly planner book can be the difference between passing and failing. Here are a few tips for staying in-control of your academic responsibilities. 1. Enter all exam dates into your planner as soon as they are announced. advance. Enter these dates into your planner as soon as they are provided. 2. Enter all homework assignments into your planner. It is easy to forget daily assignments, which can seriously affect your

grade. Get in the habit of entering homework into your planner as soon as it is announced. 3. Schedule chapter reading. Reading small sections of the chapter on a daily basis can be more effective than cramming the night

before an exam. Plan to read a few pages each day, and by the end of the week you will have read the entire chapter. 4. Stick to your schedule. Every evening you should look over your schedule for the upcoming day. Make sure that you have met all of your responsibilities. 5. Schedule fun time.

Just as it is important to stick to your academic schedule, it is equally important to stick to your fun schedule. Allow yourself at least one day per week with-

out schoolwork. Remember, a little preparation can go a long way and keeping a planner is the first step toward becoming an excellent student.

Care Care: Practice Preventive Vehicle Maintenance

(NAPSI)Preventive maintenance is critical for keeping vehicles operating at optimum levels, says car-care expert Tricia Hecker, Head of Marketing for Mopar. To help, here are 10 items to check on your vehicle: 1. Brakes: Check pads, shoes, rotors, drums, calipers, wheel cylinders, brake hardware and the parking brake for wear and tear. 2. Tires: Closely inspect the tread and sidewall areas of tires for uneven or irregular wear. Correct air pressure helps prevent premature wear and supports fuel economy. Check the spare, too. 3. Battery: Check for corroded terminals and a bulging or cracked case. Test and replace battery if necessary. 4. Headlamps and Taillamps: Inspect and test all lamps to ensure proper function and alignment. 5. Shocks and Struts: Shocks and struts are the most overlooked service parts on a vehicle, but they affect ride control and comfort and can affect a number of related parts. 6. Engine Oil: Be sure it has the correct viscosity. Engine oil should be changed or replenished at factory-recommended intervals. Low or dirty fluids affect how an

engine and its components perform and could cause engine damage. 7. Fluid Levels: All vehicle fluids and lubricants should be checked and changed at factoryrecommended intervals. Key fluids include antifreeze/coolant level and concentration, as well as power steering, brake, transmission and windshield washer fluids. 8. Engine Belts and Hoses: Replace belts and hoses at recommended intervals. 9. Air Filter: It protects the engine from airborne contaminants. Poor airflow to the engine

inhibits performance and generates greater fuel consumption. A new air filter lets clean, unrestricted airflow into the engine and helps ensure proper performance for a longer life. 10. Wiper Blades: The lineup from Mopar, Chrysler Group LLCs service, parts and customer-care brands of wiper blades, includes Beam Blades, which provide superior allweather performance and aid driving visibility. A complete list of parts is at mopar.com. Tire rebates are at m o p a r. c o m / s e r v i c e /#tire-rebates.

Community involvement included a fund raising event held last year to benefit the Bangor Police Departments K-9 Unit. We are looking forward to working with the Bangor Police in the future, as well. This past July, the Association sponsored its first Youth Day and it was a success. NRA certified instructors were at the Club to teach the kids safe handling of firearms. Twenty five kids came with their parents and/or guardians to learn trapshooting and they enjoyed lunch, compliments of the Association. We also sponsor the Roseto Rod and Gun Clubs Youth Fishing Contest. We donate a palomino trout and a $50. cash prize to the person who catches it. John DePalma Jr., a life member and past president, introduced activities for Boy Scouts to the Club. Camping and shotgun merit badges were earned at the club and the Scout leaders are very appreciative of the consideration the Scouts were given. When they came to the Club, both John and the Association donated

targets, shotgun shells and of course, the use of the facilities. The ideals and goals set forth by the founders a half century ago are still relevant in the minds of todays members. The hard work and dedication that were prominent at the foundation of Pocono Slate Belt Shooting Association still exist today. The members not only enjoy trapshooting but also the camaraderie that goes with it. For more information on the PSBSA and its activities, visit their website at psbsa.net or call 610-588-4970.
