Haddington and District ASC Weekly News Week beginning 27th August 2012

Minnows Squad: - Last week we welcomed more new swimmers to the Minnows Squad Kieran and Ailish Barry, Robyn Cameron, Naomi Brunton and Layla and Sascha Montague. The Minnows Squad is now full and a waiting list will be opened up for potential members. Congratulations to Harry Wynn, Eloise Gray, Isla Booth, Orianne Pennycuik, Charlie Malcolm, Niamh McInnes and Mia Blair who have moved up to the Blue Fins. The Minnows session on a Wednesday is very busy and I would remind you that there is a session on Saturday morning at 7.50am where there is more space to swim. Sengas thanks: - I would like to thank those people who in no small part helped me through my level 3 coaching. Firstly to Viv and Mat for the letter of recommendations that allowed me to take the course in the first place and their continual support throughout the process. To the swimmers who have taken time to complete questionnaires and allowed themselves to be subjected to video and finally the swimmers who were in attendance at my final assessments they behaved impeccably. Olympic medallist Michael Jamieson in Glasgow on 'inspirational' tour

Olympic medal winner Michael Jamieson will be diving into a Glasgow swimming pool with the aim of inspiring young people to take up his sport.

Jamieson, from Glasgow, took silver in the 200m breaststroke at the 2012 London Games. The 23-year-old will be at Scotstoun Pool later as part of the British Swimming Heroes Tour.Fellow Great Britain team-mate Craig Benson, from West Lothian, will also be at the event. Speaking ahead of the visit, Jamieson said: "London 2012 was an amazing experience with huge crowds, and if we as Olympians can inspire more children to get in the pool as part of the legacy of the Games that will be incredible. "It's great to be involved with the Heroes Tour and I hope all the kids taking part across the country have a fantastic time. "Hopefully they will continue in the sport and some may even be lucky enough to experience an Olympics or Paralympics." The swimmer said he hoped to win a Commonwealth gold in his home town of Glasgow in 2014. Jamieson's medal in London was the first by a British male in the pool at an Olympics since Steve Parry took 200m butterfly bronze in Athens in 2004.

Haddington swimmers Anna &Eve Lissaman and Erin Crawford won their places to go see and swim with Michael Jamieson through a Scottish swimming competition. The Heroes Tour was at Scotstoun Pool in Glasgow last Wednesday. I know Cameron Broadfoot and Emma Crawford also got the opportunity to attend. If any other swimmers were there please let me know.
