Your USC Student Personal Web Space As a USC student you have 50 MB of space on the USC web servers. You can use this space to set up your own web sites. Your URL is

Setting Up Connections and Folders Using Fetch 1. Open Fetch. Go to File/New Connection. Under hostname, enter aludra.usc.edu. Enter your USC username. Select SFTP for Connect using Enter your USC password, then click Connect.
2. Youll see a screen with a number of files. You can ignore all of them except public_html. (If public_html doesnt exist, create it by clicking New Folder.) Everything that you put in this folder will be accessible to the public. (Conversely, if you dont put a page or file in this folder, it wont be seen.)

If it doesnt exist already, create it with New Folder.
Note: Use lower case for all web folder and file names.

3. Double-click on public_html. Once youre inside the public_html folder, you can create a new folder for each class or project.
The names of the folders within the public_html folders become part of the URL people can use to access your site. For example, if you create a folder named jour_309 and put all of your JOUR 309 class files in it, the URL for your site is:
http://www-scf.usc.edu/~username/jour_309
4. Once youre inside this folder (jour_309), you might want to create a new folder called images so you can put all photos and graphics in one place.

Uploading HTML and Photo Files 1. Open Fetch. Go to File/Recent Connections and connect to username@aludra.usc.edu.

Make sure youre in the folder you want, e.g., jour_309, jour_309/images, etc.
Click Put.

Find your HTML file on your hard drive or flash drive, select it, then click on the Put command at the bottom of the screen.
Your file should transfer from your hard drive to the USC server, and you should see it in Fetch.
