OneofmyfavoriteauthorsandmotivationalspeakersisDr.WayneDyer.Inoneofhisbooks, The Power of Intention, he talks about the etymology of the Sanskrit origin of the word GURU.Itis acombinationoftwowords:GUmeansDarknessandRUmeansLight.So, GURU simply translated would mean the one who leads you from darkness to light. Dr. Wayne Dyer's own journey to Light was inspired by a Harvard professor, Richard Alpert turnedSpiritualGurubythenewnameofRamDass.EightwordswhisperedbyGuruRamDass changed Dr. Dyer's life forever. He said, Love everyone, feed people and see God every where.Wordschangeworlds! AllEducatorsarePeopleoftheWord.Theyteachthroughword,correctthroughword,actthroughwordandlive byword.Nowonder,BenjaminHallBrianTonnaintheirValueMaplistof125Values,ratesWORDasthehighest ofallhumanvalues.AttheheartofeveryGuruistheinvitationtoeverystudentdiscipletomovefromdarknessto light,fromignorancetotruewisdom.EveryEducatoriscalledbyaGodgivenVocationtoshareinthislightness ofGodandtoawakeneveryhearttoinnerglory,lightandpeace.ValueEducationplaysanimportantroleinthis GuruDiscipleencountertobringlighttothedarkenworld. Butsadly,theroleoftheEducatorhasbereplacedbythecommercialTutionist.EducationtoLifeandBecomingare punctuated by the immediate test/exam fever. For many a student, their immediate slogan is Pass the exam, pleasetheParent.Marksaretheyardstickbywhichastudentsintelligenceisgauged.Allthetimetestedtheories ofeducationaresidetrackedbythepresentTutionmania.Sadly,TeachersDaymaysoonbereplacedbyTutions Day.Tutionsaremoreexpensivebutinthelongrunwillbelesseffective.Tuitionshavebeenthecauseofbreakup eveninregularfamilylifespenttogether.

Today,aswecelebrateTeachersDay,ourheartsgooutinappreciationtotheoneswhobroughtlighttoourworld. Theyhavespenthoursstandingontheirfeetsothatwecouldflyhigherinlife.Thegreatestjoyofeveryteachersis this: To see their students reach a higher plane in life than they themselves have been seen. They are the wind beneathourwings,theoilwithinourlamps,themotivationbehindoursuccess. Since September 5, 1962, Teachers Day had been celebrated in India to honor the contribution made by Dr. SarvepalliRadhakrishna,thesecondPresidentofIndiaforhisgreatcontributioninthefieldsofeducation.Maythis daybeanoccasiontoexpressinsimple,yetprofoundways,ourdeepestsentimentsofgratitudetoallourteachers. Weallcantrulysay,WearebecauseofourTeachers.Godblessyoudearteachers!

A Prayer: My VALUE GURU... The Person behind my Life?

GrantustheWisdomthatallthroughthisday,wemaysospeakandactthat wewillbringnothingbuthappinesstotheyoungwhose upliftmentisourprivilegeandprogressourjoy. Helpustogetthebestrefinedknowledgeinthebestpossibleway,intothe heartsandmindsofthestudents,enablingthemtobeusefultothemselves andothers,webecomingthewitnesstotheirprogress. Helpustobepatientwiththosewhoareslowtounderstandandgrantunto usthekindliness,thatwemaymissnoopportunitytohelp,encourage, cheerandcomfortallourscholasticallygoodandemotionally andmentallybackwardchildren. Forgiveusfordebilitatingourmindsbyfailingtorespondpromptlytothe needsofthecuriousstudents. Helpustobegin,tocontinueandendeachdayaccordingtoyourwilland giveusthewisdomandstrengthtodoeverythingprogressivelyandtothe bestofourability. Giveusthewillandstrengthtoleadanexemplarylife,inspiringthemwith theValuesthatcantransformthemintoanationspride. distractyourclass.Rememberarebelliousstudentinaninsecurestudent.Findtimeafterclasstogiveattentionto thembybuildingconfidenceinthembygivingawordintheear.Correctthemwithlove.Asmallwordcantransform theclimateofyourclassandschool.

4. Panic control: Save Face TheClassroommustbeasecondhomenotabattlegroundforwinnersandlosers.Or

ThedeepestneedofthestudentsareunderstandingandLove. Yourstudentsdonotwanttoknowhowmuchyouknow,theywanttoknowhowmuchyoucare. TeachersmustmaintaintheirDignityandDisciplinebuttheymustrealizethattheyaresecond parents,andassecondparentsstudentsexpectmorethanjustteaching. Withthepresentdot.comgeneration,Teachersshouldhumblyacknowledgetherearesomethings thattheymaynotknowandnotactasaSuperteacher. BeawarethatSuperTeacherscannotbeputonapedestalandcastinstonebecausethebestones aremadeoutofmalleableclay,thattheyreachupandworkonthemselvesandallowthespecific

needsoftheirclasstoalsomold!
