THE 4CS SENIOR CITIZENS The 4Cs Senior Citizens met August 28th with 39 members and 2 guests present. Fran Coyle won the 50-50 drawing and Fred Langdon the door prize. Carol Wood from the 211 call center in Bath described their program of human services that covers this area. The program is similar to 911 and covers requests not so urgent as the latter in terms of immediacy. The annual picnic was held at Island Park in Wellsville on August 14th with 39 members and guests enjoying a chicken dinner and bingo. The mystery trip of September 6th will depart from Richburg at 8 a.m. and Scio at 8:30. Our next meeting of September 11th will feature Amy Medlin of community services. For 13 weeks, Peterson stayed committed during some of the worlds most demanding entry-level military training in order to be transformed from civilian to Marine instilled with pride, discipline and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Training subjects included close-order drill, marksmanship with an M-16A4 rifle, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies. One week prior to graduation, Peterson endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits minds and bodies. FRUGAL DATE NIGHTS My husband and I love a great bargain. For our date nights, we start a lot earlier. We found that if we have a very late lunch at our favorite restaurant and catch the twilight movie, we save about half of what we would normally pay. Plus, since we eat before the movie, we arent tempted to spend money on soda and popcorn, which are loaded with calories that we dont need anyway. -Cathy T GROUND MEAT STRETCHER A way to stretch good ground meat is to add bread crumbs to the meat and hand mix in a bowl. Then form burger patties as usual and freeze. You can use leftover stale bread and dry in an oven. Grate it in a blender or by hand. I take this even further and add my own homegrown dehydrated onion and garlic into the mixture for flavor. The possibilities for additions are endless. -S. . NEED TO FIND A GOOD MECHANIC? A great way to find a good mechanic is to ask a few local used car dealers who they take their cars to for work. Bulk cooking has a lot of benefits. It saves power, water, time, and food. It lets me teach my kids cooking skills, organization skills, how to multiply recipes, how to shop for a menu, how to stay within a budget, and how to make cleanup easy. And it gives us one night a week where we are together, working on a mutual project whose outcome we all care about.
