French Exchange Swimming report We headed to the very nice surroundings of the Alain Saragosse piscine for our first competition on the 21st July. This is the open competition where other summer clubs send their swimmers to compete. The setting was good for our swimmers as there was some cloud cover and not an overly hot day so the pool was not too warm. The morning saw us compete against the best of what the summer clubs had to offer and we faired very well the 14+ butterfly event being the only one we didnt have a finalist in the afternoon. The events are swum in relay medley order both for the morning heats and afternoon finals. The fastest 3 heats of the 200 IM are also swum in the afternoon as there are no finals for this event. In the boys 200 IM Matthew Thomson and Cameron Broadfoot earned a gold and silver medal respectively, with Charlie Smith coming 4th. In the girls event, Sabrina Wright earned silver and Hannah Munro 4th. The Finals are split into A and B finals (5 swimmers in each final) for 14+ and an A final only for 13 & under Name Chloe McCallum Sabrina Wright Hannah Munro Cliona Robertson Albonnie Robertson Eve Lissaman Brigid Hay Gaby Smith Matthew Thomson Charlie Smith Declan Till Andrew Edwards Courtney Broadfoot Katie Archibald Chloe Laird Stroke / Age/ Final Back/14+/A Back/ 14+/A Back/14+/A Back/14+/B Back/14+/B Back/13-/A Back/13-/A Back/13-/A Back/14+/A Back/14+/A Back/13-/A Back/13-/A Breast/14+/A Breast/14+/B Breast/13-/A Overall Place 1st 2nd 3rd 6th 8th 1st 2nd 3rd 1st 2nd 1st 2nd 2nd 7th 1st

Great results from our swimmers The second meet was our head to head held the night before we left and after an afternoon shopping in a very hot Pau. This made the conditions not ideal for our swimmers the pool was hot and the sun was beating down. Our swimmers fought hard though in a very close competition that ended with Denis at the function afterwards announcing a draw which I think was a good result as we had to do a lot of swapping around in age groups to ensure we had a swimmer in every race. Some of the relays were particularly hard fought, so well done to everyone who swam and lets see what we can do with a full strength team when they return next year. Committee vacancy: - The AGM for the club is coming up in September and we are looking for a new President to head up the committee team. If you would like to get involved with the organisation of the club then please have a chat with one of the present committee members to find out more Haddington Triathlon: - This years Haddington triathlon will be run on Sunday 9 th September. It is being organised by Katie Archibald one of our swimmers. We have been asked if the swimming club could help by supplying volunteers to count lengths/time the swimming or marshal etc. I will put a notice on the board for volunteers to sign up so that I can pass a list directly to Katie nearer the time. The competition starts at 9am (tbc) with the swimming part first so there will be no training that morning.
