GUIDELINE TO PREPARE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING LOGBOOK

1. What is a Log Book The Log Book is used by students to write the training details and can serve as a daily record for tasks performed during the training. It is a responsibility of the student to record all notes in the log book and to keep its content always updated. 2. The purpose of keeping a logbook includes: A reflection of on job training content to the student, and evidence of job record for supervisor and adviser. Part of professional practice in engineering profession is to record incidence and evidence onto a daily work log

By completing a logbook, you: develop a chronological written record of your work term experiences gain experience in maintaining a logbook before registering for any competencies certification (e.g. as Professional Engineers, Chargeman etc) put together the appropriate documentation to apply your work term experiences towards the required work experiences for professional engineer/competency registration

3. Guidelines to create a good logbook: Bring your logbook and/or a document file with you at all times All the training activities should be recorded either on daily or weekly basis. Entries are to be made by hand, preferably printed, directly on the logbook pages, or may be typed and attached to the logbook. The logbook must be verified by the industry supervisor. Write down duties and functions performed daily as you are doing them (Example: If you are assigned to work under the supervision of a senior engineer and asked to perform some design calculations, then describe the tasks and how you performed them and describe the experiences gained in doing them. At the end of each working day, take 20-30 minutes to write a summary of the work performed during that day and refer to these summary in your report writing On the other copy, which you will have to either ask your supervisor to sign daily, elaborate more on your job duties Maybe you can take some of your textbooks with you, so that you may find them very handy whenever you need some technical information or need to refer to some formula or literature

Content is up to you, i.e. open format Your logbook entries should outline all professional and related activities, including summaries of daily/weekly responsibilities and/or accomplishments, and some other activities such as: o meetings with clients o documents produced o safety issues

conference o budgets/financial work o courses o seminars

involvement with technical societies o group study The Log Book should contain items such as follows :

objectives for each daily activities, list of tools used, process flow diagrams, flow charts, sketches,

data and related circuit diagrams, o results and outcomes of the activities, o constructive comments, analysis and references to text books, o standards and other technical information. Also, in the logbook, you should answer the followings : o What new knowledge or skill did you learn on the internship this week? Describe o What have you learned in college that you applied on the internship. List down
o

List any difficulties, mistakes, pleasant or unpleasant experiences that occurred this week. What did you do to correct your mistake (s) o On what skill or question could you use help in performing your internship responsibilities better o What interesting or challenging experience did you have with your fellow workers or site supervisor? Describe
