REACH: ORPHAN

As this year moves toward the fall months and

we begin to think of pumpkin pies and candy canes, we also consider the faster speed in which it seems to move forward each year. With this anticipation of a new year approaching, consider what we have done with this year and what we will do in the year ahead. God has called us out to share His good news and reach the lost with the message of hope. Do we know how to use the tools that are available to us to do this? God Word has not changed. The living Word is what will draw people to Him with the hope of a new life in Jesus Christ. We would encourage you to be challenged this fall and find a place in Gods work. Get involved in ministry here at Calvary and around the world. Find the classes that will equip you to share your faith with others. Ask God if He would use you to change lives. Seek to know His will for you. Could you be the next Calvary missionary? There is so much that God wants us to do and be - you have a choice and opportunity to reach out this month. Will you?

HARDwhere the Harvest seems Impossible SOIL Planting

GUEST SPEAKER: STEVE RICHARDSON PRESIDENT OF PIONEERS USA SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2012
In March we heard how God is working in Japan and Iran two very hard places for sharing the message of Gods salvation in the world. Since then, we have heard that our friend, Pastor Fashid, has been sentenced to six years in prison. A hard answer to our prayers, but God is at work and many of the prisoners have found real freedom through Farshids sweet kind words to them and have placed their faith in Christ Jesus. This October, we will again hear about what God is doing in hard places around the world. The mission agency, Pioneers, has been going to hard places from its inception. We will have the great opportunity of hearing from Steve Richardson on Sunday morning, October 7. Steve has been the president of Orlando-based Pioneers USA since 1999. Pioneers has a growing international workforce of almost 2,500 members serving on 299 teams in 95 countries among 146 unreached people groups. Steve was raised in Indonesia, where his parents planted churches in a jungle tribe. He witnessed firsthand the impact of the Gospel on their war-like society, a story documented in his fathers missionary classic, Peace Child. Graduating from Columbia Biblical Seminary in 1985, Steve and his wife Arlene became Pioneers first missionaries to Indonesia, where they worked for 11 years. They launched a church-planting effort among the 30 million Sundanese Muslim people on the island of Java. With their team of 40 missionaries Steve and Arlene developed an integrative approach to church planting called Lampstand. Steve helped start a center for Sundanese evangelism, a Sundanese language Christian magazine, two English language schools, and a successful business as mission project called HeartCraft. Steve went on to serve as Area Director for Pioneers ministries in the Southeast Asia / Oceania region. The Richardsons also facilitated new Pioneers mobilization bases in Australia and New Zealand. Steve and Arlene are blessed with four daughters, Joy, Sarah, Kelly, and Victoria all born in Indonesia. Learn more at calvarylife.org/missions

GLOBAL reach WEEKEND:

MISSIONARY
PRAYER GUIDES
Have you ever met a missionary and felt excitement when you hear of the work that theyre doing on the field? Amazement at the way God used a difficult situation for His glory? Have you shared in their joy as they told you of those who have come to a saving faith in Christ? You can be a part of these amazing stories, even from thousands of miles away. All you have to do is pray. Prayer seems simple, yet its unimaginably powerful. In the Bible we see the apostle Paul both praying for others and asking for prayer on his missionary journeys. Paul knew the power of prayer, and of having a church of believers petitioning God on behalf of his ministry. Imagine if all of us at Calvary began intentionally praying for our missionaries. If thousands of voices called out to God for our missionaries to feel boldness, to have wisdom, to have opportunity to share His Word and that the message of Christs saving love would be accepted by many! God is mighty and powerful. And God is listening. Our missionaries have followed His calling to go. Follow His calling to pray! Pick up your copy of the 2012-13 Missionary Prayer Guide during the Reach Weekend on October 7, and commit to praying for our Calvary family serving around the world. Challenge yourself to pray through it, and use this simple tool to make kingdom impacting change!

Liz Gold goes to INdia

Please be in prayer for me as I head to India this October. I will be visiting one of our missionary families, Josiah and Heidi near New Delhi and then travel south to Hyderabad for the 25 th Anniversary Gathering for JVI (Joshua Vision India).JVI is a ministry of Partners International that Calvary has supported since 2001. JVI trains national pastors to be Master Trainers. With this training pastors go back to their village and train up to 40 others to go and train others to plant churches. Their success in this training has encouraged us to help in the support of this ministry over the years. I look forward to meeting some of the ministry partners that we have helped train over the years at this week long conference in Hyderabad. Below are two stories from JVI about some of the results of their training:

MASTER TRAINERS FOCUS

Santhosh Makal and his wife Mercy Makal are both Master Trainers from West Bengal. Santhosh was commissioned in July 2002 and Mercy in November 2001. Both of them are good singers and have produced Christian Gospel albums. In 2000 they started their ministry with one believer and now they have registered a ministry called Malda Christian Fellowship and have 18 Evangelists working with them. They have planted 65 churches among 15 people groups, including the Brahmins. They have trained more than 100 Harvesters who are now serving with other churches and missions. Santhosh recently shared, A man was practicing yoga for eight years in a temple. He was discouraged and wanted to end his life but on the way he found one of the tracts that I wrote and accepted Christ. Santhosh and his wife are blessed with two daughters Sneha and Sreya, who are talented in singing and dancing, and are active in the church.

GRASSROOTS WORKERS FOCUS

Mrs. Kavita was commissioned in March 2011 after an intensive one month Holistic Development training. After her return to her village in Maharashtra she has formed two women microcredit groups. She is seen in the picture in her shop, by which she generates income to support her family. Besides saving money for economic development, these women are actively involved in dealing with societal problems. She said, For two years the water pipeline to our village was broken and we had to walk two and half miles to get water. As the government officials did not take any interest, our group members met the Village Development Officer and shared the problem. Immediately he had the problem rectified. We are now mobilizing women to fight against liquor problems in our village. My husband has now stopped drinking! Speaking about the training she proudly says, I have developed leadership qualities at IWILL.

Calvary to Kenya
There are more than 7,500 miles that separate Calvary Church in Santa Ana from a little town in Kenya called Kitale. But those 7,500 miles are not the only things that separate us. Our cultures could not be more opposite. We have a time-oriented culture where our watches dictate what happens next. Kenyans have an event-oriented culture where showing up on time isnt as important as just showing up, eventually. In Kenya, they drive on the opposite side of the road, their grocery stores are make-shift street bazaars that line the crowded streets, and the average $80 a month rent forces you to work long 14 hour days to just barely make ends meet. These are just a couple of examples of what makes us different. What brings us together is Jesus Christ. During Blockbuster VBS this summer, more than 1200 kids were introduced to Patricia Sawo, or as we called her, Mama Sweetie, a Calvary Church National Missionary who is making lives change in Kitale, Kenya. The Discover to Recover Centre (DTRC) provides a sanctuary in Kitale, Kenya for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Started by Mama Sweetie, the DTRC provides a unique combination of unconditional love, guidance, and a spirit of hope rooted in the Christian faith to lift the burden of hopelessness associated with HIV/AIDS. Through the generous giving to Calvary Church Missions, our Missions Team was able to purchase two acres of land this past Spring for the development of a new Discover to Recover Centre. Our goal for our VBS Penny Project this year was to have the kids bring in pennies to help build this new center. The kids not only brought in over $10,000 in pennies to support the work Mama Sweetie is doing in Kenya, but they also helped pack 10,000 meals to help feed the kids who live at the Discover to Recover Centre. We are planning a short-term missions trip to Kenya in 2013, led by Pastor Matt Davis. The plan is to pick up the 10,000 meals and deliver them to Mama Sweetie, as well as be a part of the actual building project on the new land. This trip offers the opportunity to care for both the widow and the orphan and extend the love and grace of Jesus Christ to a community of people who need hope. We are planning a short term missions trip to Kenya in 2013. Contact Harold Stephen, Missions Team Short term Chairman at 714.963.4093 or the trips Team leader, Matt Davis at Mdavis@calvarylife.org for more information on how to be a part of this trip. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost - Luke 19:10 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day - John 6:40 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. - 1 Timothy 2:3-6 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. - 2 Peter 3:9

Is your faith contagious? Do people want to catch what you have in Jesus? Calvary Church is an incredible body of believers with maturity, wisdom and grace. We are doing a great job of pursuing our values of Connecting with God and others, Growing in our faith and Reaching around the world. The primary area for us to grow is how we Reach Orange County for Jesus Christ. We have some wonderful ways that we are serving Santa Ana through good deeds. We now want to see the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ shared with the people we interact with every day in Orange County. Every single one of us can grow our hearts for the lost and our ability to share the Gospel with people. It's simple. You were lost. Now you are found. Found people, find people. It's our calling and command from the Scriptures. In light of this, we are beginning a two-month focus on personal evangelism in our church. This will be all-encompassing. We will have an 8-week sermon series beginning in 2013, launched by William Fay, the author of Share Jesus Without Fear, and then continued by our Calvary pastors. There will be a special seminar by William Fay. Our children and youth will have the same focus. Every LifeGroup will be going through Becoming a Contagious Christian. There will be a Wednesday night equipping class on Becoming a Contagious Christian for those of you who are not in a LifeGroup. The Alpha Course will begin on February 20th. Begin to pray now that you will catch the vision and become contagious and we will see many people come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. - Matthew 28:18-20 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. - Mark 16:15-16 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth - Acts 1:8 Additional scriptures: John 1:43-46, Romans 10:9-17, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

DAY ON
st

Beautiful

We called the day A Beautiful Day on 1st Street and broke down the day into 3 service projects with 3 serve teams. The first team went to the Sunland (2111 E. 1st Street Santa Ana) and DaVinci Motels (2222 E. 1st Street Santa Ana). At the motels, the team passed out grocery boxes (supplied by the Orange County Rescue Mission www.rescuemission.org) and cooked up breakfast burritos, washed motel residents cars for free and prepped the DaVinci motel for a major paint job due later this fall. It was truly grace in action as dozens of Calvary volunteers prayed with Sunland residents, shared common stories and invited people to join our Calvary family on Sundays for worship. Meanwhile, across the street on 1st Street, another Calvary team served at the Park West Care & Rehabilitation Center (2210 E. 1st Street, Santa Ana, CA 92705). The team sang worship songs to a packed room of elderly residents, shared a Bible Study, played games and simply offered a listening ear to the elderly residents of the care facility. The Park West residents loved all of the Calvary kids who were part of this team and brought such life to the center! At the same time, a third Calvary team took 4 group homes from Olive Crest Foster Homes (www.olivecrest.org) to the Santa Ana Zoo on 1st Street. Each group home child was matched up with a small group of Calvary volunteers for a tour and scavenger hunt around the Zoo and an El Pollo Loco lunch afterwards at the Zoo Picnic area. It was amazing to watch God instantly allow Calvary volunteers to connect with the foster kids they were matched up with and how in just a few short hours, genuine friendships were created.

It truly was a beautiful day on 1st Street! Check out the Orange County Register article talking about A Beautiful Day on 1st Street http://www.ocregister.com/articles/ church-365975-first-food.html

1 street
1st Street in one of the main arteries connecting downtown Tustin to downtown Santa Ana. It also serves as a main hub that sends thousands of people on their daily commutes to the 5 and 55 Freeways. 1st Street is also home to many of Orange Countys lowest-income motels and neighborhoods. Many residents who live on 1st Street struggle just to survive on a daily basis. Jesus calls His followers to proclaim the Gospel (The Great Commission Matthew 28:18-20) and to demonstrate the Gospel (Salt and Light Matthew 5:14-16) to our neighbors. It was in this context that we began brainstorming how Calvary Church could serve in the name of Jesus on 1st Street in order to proclaim and demonstrate Jesus amazing grace, mercy and desire to call anyone and everyone to salvation thru His name. We wanted a day where people who lived and worked around 1st Street would see volunteers from Calvary Church serving them in the name of Jesus Christ. So, on July 28, a warm Saturday morning, over 140 volunteers from Calvary Church descended on 1st Street with this goal in mind: to care for those who live and work on 1st Street.

LISA'S

STORY

I serve Him there.

on 1st Street & now

God saved me

Lisa has attended Calvary Church for 3 years. She once lived just a few miles from Calvary, far from God, addicted to drugs and selling her body on a daily basis in order to get her next fix. It was a mind numbing and desperate existence for Lisa. But, it was during this dark time, that God spoke to her right there on 1st Street. Officer Kevin Brown of the Santa Ana Police Department would often stop Lisa as she wandered up and down 1st Street. Lisa would always think, oh great, I am about to get arrested. But instead, Officer Brown (who, now retired from the SAPD, pastors a church right off of 1st Street in Santa Ana) would stop Lisa, not to arrest her, but to pray for her. Amazingly these prayers over a hopelessly lost Lisa, would be answered in 1998, when Lisa met Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and got sober. Lisa shared the hope that she now experiences through Christ on Saturday morning, and prayed that, through our Calvary familys acts of love, others would come to know Him as she had on 1st Street so many years ago.

REACH:

ORPHAN

Have you ever watched the classic 1938 Shirley Temple film, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm? In the movie Shirley Temple plays an orphan girl named Rebecca. She wins a national radio audition but is shielded from the bright lights of fame by her overprotective Aunt Miranda and her opportunistic and greedy stepfather, Harry Kipper. In the end everything turns out right as Rebecca gets on the radio. Aunt Miranda softens up and gains full custody rights of her niece and the story ends happily ever after. Unfortunately, not every orphan receives a Hollywood ending to their story. For every Rebecca there are thousands of children who are without a forever family.

Yet, for all of these heartbreaking statistics, there is the encouragement that God has great compassion for the orphan among us. Have you ever realized just how much the Bible talks about Gods heart for the orphan? In Deuteronomy 10:18, we are told, God executes justice for the orphan. In Psalm 68:4-6 God is called, a Father to the Fatherless and a God who sets the lonely in families In Psalm 146 we are told, The LORD watches overand sustains the fatherless These passages and many others (example: Exodus 22:22-24, Isaiah 1:17, Jeremiah 22:3, James 1:27) point to Gods deep concern and heart for the orphans.

hope and home, Jesus brought us into his family (Ephesians 2:12-13, 19). What Jesus did for us is the Gospel. Today there are millions of orphans in the world without hope and home. When we give orphans hope, when we bring orphans into our families, we reenact the Gospel. When a church provides hope and homes to children lost in the foster care system, it reenacts the Gospel. When churches create partnerships with other churches around the world in order to care for orphans, the Gospel is reenacted many times over before a watching world. Orphan care is Gospel reenactment.

The Gospel and the Orphan

For the Christian, God lays out the analogy of an orphan to explain how He chose us and redeemed us from sin. Read the words of Ephesians 1:4-8, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. I love this quote by author Dan Cruver talking about the Gospel and the orphan, When we were on the outside without

Our Response at Calvary

(ww (ww

In our 80 year history, the Lord has moved in many ways to stir the heart of Calvary Church towards caring for the orphan. Dozens and dozens of Calvary families have adopted locally and globally and many Calvary families have become foster parents over the years. In fact, Calvary members, Bill and Carolyn Griffith were honored by the White House at one point for their involvement in foster care! In 2012, a brand new orphan care ministry has been launched within our Church called Reach: Orphan. The goal of this new ministry is to raise awareness of orphan care opportunities, create events and action oriented ways for the people of Calvary to get involved in caring for the Orphan and support families from Calvary who answer the call to foster, adopt or become a Safe Family.

PRAYER
NORTH KOREA

FOR OUR PERSECUTED BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Open Doors with Brother Andrew is calling on Christians to pray for over 200 million suffering believers during the International Day of Prayer (IDOP) for the Persecuted Church on Sunday, November 11. During that day churches around the United States will focus on prayer and support for our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. IDOP is one of the largest prayer events in the world and has heightened awareness of the Persecuted Church since its inception in 1996. Open Doors USA collaborates with other Christian agencies to sponsor IDOP under the umbrella of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.

Violations of human rights are the order of the day in the Stalinist country of North Korea, including many breaches of religious rights. North Korea has entered its fourth year as the worst violator of religious rights for Christians. Christianity is observed as a dangerous foreign influence which stimulated the collapse of communist regimes in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and therefore poses one of the greatest threats to the regimes power. As a result, the North Korean authorities are making harsh efforts to root out Christianity. It is believed that tens of thousands of Christians are currently suffering in North Korean prison camps where they face cruel abuses. The hermit regime is suspected of detaining more political and religious prisoners than any other country in the world. Several North Koreans became Christians after crossing the border with China and entering into contact with local Christians. Many among these were exposed as believers when they returned to North Korea and were specially targeted for arrest. Many of them were tortured and killed. North Korea Prayer Requests: The thousands of Christians in labor and re-education camps Safe delivery of Christian literature into the country The worship of Kim Jong Il will be replaced with the worship of the only true God

Saudi Arabia remains high in the top 10 of the World Watch List. Religious freedom does not exist in the Wahhabist kingdom where citizens are only allowed to adhere to one religion: Islam. No legal protection is provided for freedom of religion; neither does this protection exist in practice. The legal system is based on Islamic law (Sharia). Apostasy -- conversion to another religion -- is punishable by death. Although the government recognizes the right of non-Muslims to worship in private, the public practice of nonMuslim worship is prohibited.

IRAN

Islam is the official religion in Iran, and all laws and regulations must be consistent with the official interpretation of Sharia law. Whereas the deterioration of religious freedom for Christians started with the victory of conservative parties at the beginning of 2004, a new wave of persecution of Christians followed the election of a hardline conservative president in June 2005, bringing the country to position No. 3 on the World Watch List. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed his election triumph as a new Islamic revolution that could spread throughout the world and pledged to restore an Islamic government in Iran, implying that the previous administrations were not sufficiently Islamic. Since 2005s election, many Christians have not only been rounded up for harassment, but many have been arrested and beaten. Ethnic Christians are still allowed to express their faith within their own church walls, but those who come from a Muslim background face tremendous risk because the government wants them to return to Islam. Iran Prayer Requests: Christians meeting in cell groups can worship in safety Muslim Background Believers will stand strong against tremendous pressure President Ahmadinejad will be touched by the Gospel and stop his hardline

FOR THOSE wHO SHARE OUR FAITH BUT NOT OUR FREEDOm
Nearly 70% of the worlds population lives in areas of severe religious restriction. Many of these people are Christians. One With Them is an Open Doors initiative designed to bring awareness to the reality of Christian persecution to the Western Church. Through One With Them we seek to inspire Christians in the United States to stand as ONE with those who share our faith in Christ, but who dont share our religious freedom. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together 1st Corinthians 12:26

HEALTH CLINIC the OC Rescue Mission Calvary Partners with

opening to our community
a st e p c l o s e r t o o u r v i s i o n
We are excited to announce that Calvary Church has agreed to partner with the Orange County Rescue Mission to open a low cost health clinic inside Calvarys Heritage Building. The health clinic will open to our community early 2013. In 2005, Calvary Church purchased the Heritage Medical Building as an act of faith, praying that God would use this building for His purposes and His glory. While waiting on Gods direction for the building, we continue to rent out the 10 suites to medical personnel to cover the cost of the monthly mortgage and operating expenses. The Hurtt Health Clinic, which operates under the umbrella of the OC Rescue Mission (www.rescuemission.org), will be the first local outreach partner to move into the Heritage building.

PRAY for people to be drawn to Christ and that lives would be changed. PRAY that this would not only be a place of physical healing, but a place of spiritual healing as well. PRAY that God would call many to volunteer and become a part of this new ministry opportunity.

what WILL the OC Rescue mission clinic provide?

The Hurtt Family Health Clinic provides highly accessible, preventative, primary and specialized healthcare to homeless and underserved families through a full service medical, dental, vision, mental health, chiropractic, and health education facility. The clinics main center is located on the grounds of the OC Rescue Missions Village of Hope in Tustin. To complement the main clinic, they also have a mobile unit that serves throughout Orange County in low income neighborhoods. This new clinic at the Heritage Building will allow the OC Rescue Mission to expand their services and reach out further into Santa Ana and our local neighborhoods. If you are a medical professional and want to learn how you could volunteer at this new clinic, contact REACH Local Pastor, Matt Doan at mdoan@calvarylife.org or 714.550.2378.

MAtT DOAN
One warm Saturday morning in August, I met my friends Paul and Bryant at 7 oclock in the morning in the Calvary Church parking lot and voluntarily headed to prison. We were there to sign inmates up for Prison Fellowships Angel Tree Christmas Program. Each December Angel Tree volunteers deliver presents to the children of inmates on behalf of their incarcerated parent. The goal of the program is to promote reconciliation between the inmate and family, ultimately pointing them towards reconciliation with God thru faith in Jesus Christ. Each year Calvary adopts over 100+ Angel Tree kids whom we provide with Christmas presents. We hold a banquet in December and invite all of the kids and families. We share the good news of Jesus and distribute the gifts to the kids. This outreach has become one of the highlights of my year. Until now, I had never had the opportunity to meet those inmates who we serve through Angel Tree. Here are some of the things I observed in my 8 hours in prison:

prison iNMaTES HAVE A STRONG HUNGER FOR goD.
I had deep conversations with guys that made me realize God is present and active in changing lives in prison. Terrell is a former gang leader in South LA, serving a life sentence for murder. He told me, Matt, most of the guys that are in here say they are innocent, but I know what I did was wrong and that I deserve to be punished. He told me how he thanks God that he was put in prison because that is what it took for him to wake him up and turn his heart towards Jesus Christ. Each afternoon Terrell quietly spends time in his bunk, reading his Bible, listening to sermons and completing his Bible studies. He is hoping to finish on-line Bible college at some point, and sees this tough place as his lifetime mission field for Christ. Incredible! Another prisoner I talked to was Eddie. Eddie lived a fast life in South Orange County, letting drugs ruin his life, his business, his family, his life. Now he is in prison until 2023. Recently he went to appeal his case, but suddenly he felt like God was telling him to drop the appeal. He told me, If I appeal my case, I am defending the old man ... Today in Jesus Christ, I am a different person, a new man, so why would I want to defend someone who is no longer me? Eddie dropped his appeal and humbly decided he is going to use his remaining years in prison for God glory. Eddie helps the prison chaplain run the weekly chapels, booking guest speakers, organizing the tape, CD and book library in the Chapel and mentoring new believers. God is working in prison, just like He is working in your neighborhood and in our cities. There is no place, no matter how dark or hopeless, where Gods light and Gods hope cant break through. My experience in prison proved that to me. You can join in on what God is already doing in the lives of prisoners and their families and serve in the name of Jesus through this years Angel Tree Project. Angel Tree allows you to purchase a gift for a child of an inmate who lives here in Santa Ana, Orange, Tustin or Garden Grove. Look for the Angel Tree gift tags in the Calvary Worship Center Lobby on Sunday, October 28 and November 4. Each tag will sign you up to purchase a gift ($25 or less) for an individual child. Other Angel Tree Volunteer Opportunities at Calvary: -Help staff the Sunday lobby table -Wrap and sort Angel Tree gifts in the month of November -Be a part of the Angel Tree gift delivery team December 16 - 23 -Set-up and help host the Angel Tree Luncheon in Fellowship Hall on Saturday, December 15 -Make phone calls to caregivers and families of Angel Tree Children (English/Spanish/Vietnamese) To sign up to volunteer, contact Marlene Eckert at 714.458.4694 or meckert1@socal.rr.com Interested in more info on how you can be part of an ongoing prison ministry? Prisoners Are People Too.

We often have concepts of who prisoners are. In my brief time in prison I saw my share of guys with 25 inch biceps, face covering tattoos covering and racial tension in the yard. But, I also saw men who looked lonely, who seemed worried and stressed about their families outside the prison walls and men who simply were trying to turn a terrible situation into a positive new beginning. In other words, what I saw in prison is like a lot of what I see outside of prison. Humanity, struggles, hopes, dreams, failures, joy and grief. Just like me and you, Prisoners are people too, people loved by God, made in His image and in need of Jesus.
