Sonus ASX Feature Server

Millions of people today rely on the ASX Feature Server for their residential and business voice services. Based on Sonus industry-leading NGN/IMS network architecture, the ASX server offers a wide range of voice services and sophisticated SIP applications on a scalable IP-based platform. Unique to the ASX server is its remarkable interoperability, which allows service providers and enterprises to deliver a common set of subscriber services over any access technologyVoice over Broadband, Voice over WiMAX, cable, VoDSL, etc.to a wide range of IP and legacy endpoints including H.248/MGCP phones, SIP smartphones, softphones, IP phones, IADs, eMTAs and digital loop carriers. In addition to business and residential services, the ASX server enables service providers and enterprises to offer end users sophisticated SIP-based services such as unified messaging, Web-based self-provisioning portals and fixed-smartphone convergence solutions. The open architecture of the ASX server expands the possibilities for service providers to create new, revenue-generating services and for enterprises to easily incorporate voice services into their unified communications.

The Sonus ASX Feature Server delivers a comprehensive set of traditional and advanced call services to IP and legacy phones. By combining strong protocol interworking with an NGN/ IMS-compliant architecture, the ASX server provides a flexible solution for a smarter future.

Bridging Legacy and IP Endpoints

The ASX server supports a variety of signaling protocols including MGCP, H.248 and SIP. As a result, network operators can deliver consistent call features to all of their subscribers whether theyre using legacy phones or IP phones. In fact, the ASX server provides the foundation for a simple VoIP services migration without requiring any additional hardwaresubscribers can continue to use non-SIP phones but receive SIP services through the ASXs centrally managed system, which converts legacy endpoints into SIP URIs.

Fixed-Smartphone Convergence

One of the exciting new features available with the Sonus ASX server is fixed-smartphone convergence. This allows subscribers to combine their existing home/business phone line with up to five additional SIP endpointsincluding 3G/WiFi-enabled smartphones and PC softphonesfor an advanced, single directory number solution. With fixed-smartphone convergence, subscribers can receive calls dialed to their home or business number on a PC softphone or a smartphone SIP client when they travel. Subscribers can also take advantage of advanced SIP services like simultaneous ringing, find-me/follow-me, fixed-mobile call transfers and multiple concurrent inbound/outbound calls from a single number.

IMS and PacketCable Compliant

As service providers look to evolve their networks to next-generation VoIP technology, the ASX server evolves with them to support the voice services of tomorrow. The ASX server transitions seamlessly into a Telephony Application Server for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks. For cable providers, the ASX server is a qualified CableLabs Call Management System (CMS) for PacketCable 1.0/1.5 networks and is compliant with PacketCable 2.0 networks, allowing for migration from PacketCable 1.0 and 1.5 to 2.0 networks.

The ASX server is built on an open, standards-based architecture that ensures interoperability with many third-party VoIP applications including those from Sonus partners Agnity, Dialogic, Iperia and Movius. In addition, the ASX server has passed rigorous testing in the Sonus Interoperability Testing Lab with Unified Communications products from a variety of vendors including Adtran, Avaya, Cicso, Counterpath, iSurf, Linksys, Nortel, Polycom and Snom.

High Availability, Reliability, Scalability

The ASX server platform is highly scalable; service providers and enterprises can scale modest deployments to millions of subscribers simply by adding servers. ASX servers are deployed in active redundant pairs for failover/disaster recovery (including multi-geo redundancy) and supported by redundant clusters of Access Directory Server (ADS) subscriber database systems for high (99.999%) reliability and service availability.
