ABSTRACT BARROS, ALMON DOMINIC PANLAQUI. Southern Luzon State University at Lucban, Quezon. 2011. Knowledge and Health Practices on Hypertension of Selected Middle Adult Citizens of Barangay Talolong Lopez, Quezon. The main purpose of the study is to determine the level of knowledge and health practices of the selected middle adult citizens of Barangay Talolong Lopez, Quezon. Specifically, this study aimed to answer the following questions: What is the demographic profile of respondents in terms of gender, occupation, and educational attainment of the respondents. The level of knowledge of the respondents on how to prevent and control hypertension. The respondents health practices based on their knowledge to prevent and control hypertension. And the significant relationship in the knowledge and practices of selected middle adult citizens of Barangay Talolong Lopez, Quezon to control and prevent hypertension. The study used a descriptive type of research. The total respondents were one hundred thirty one middle adult citizens of the barangay Talolong Lopez, Quezon. Self made questionnaires were used as a main tool of the study. The findings of the study were the following: according to gender, male respondents are the main victims of hypertension due to excessive alcohol drinking. While the female are the minorities of hypertension in the said barangay due to unhealthy eating habits such as always having high salty processed meat products as part of their meals. According to occupation, respondents with jobs are least likely to develop severe hypertension because they can afford to seek medical advices and regular check-ups. While those respondents who doesnt have job, they only seek medical advices when they experience severe conditions on their health concerning hypertension. According to educational attainment, a respondents that have reaching the occurrence of higher level education are more knowledgeable on ways in prevent and controlling hypertension, unlike those respondents that were only able to reach basic education (elementary graduates, high school graduates) Based on the findings, conclusions were drawn: the results and findings revealed that it can be concluded that most of the selected middle adult citizens are highly knowledgeable on hypertension. But with regards to their practices, the study was able to find out that they often practice the prevention and control to hypertension. The researcher recommends the following: The barangay health sector should provide a health concerned seminar regarding on the facts and practices on hypertension in which the community specifically the hypertensive individuals will benefit and realize the importance of a simple practice to prevent and control hypertension. To the respondents, that they should apply the proper ways in controlling and preventing hypertension that they have learned on the seminars they attended conducted by the barangay health sector(if any). And also, to have their weekly check-up on their blood pressure for monitoring purposes.

To whole community, that they should be aware and responsible enough for their own health to prevent and avoid such condition like hypertension and other diseases. To practice a healthy lifestyle habits including eating healthy foods, exercising regularly and avoiding vises. For the future researchers, a research can be conducted in other health problems of the community such as diarrhea, malnutrion and dengue occurrences.
