Introduction
With easy access to Internet and ever increasing cost of infrastructure, BroadVision aims to change the way classroom interactions in Higher Education courses through Enterprise Social Networking tool Virtual Campus using cloud based technology. This solution facilitates to enhance the existing education eco-system. With Virtual Campus at PTES in place, it empowers the Students, Faculty members and Industry experts acting as Mentors to collaborate, Learn and share collectively. Students are now able to explore new technologies using the internet, see updated facts and information on a wiki, or read a famous explorers blog posts on their expeditions, all in a unified platform. PTES is the only Undergraduate College possibly in South of India to have a private enterprise network for an Undergraduate Educational Institution. People Tree Education Society (PTES) has also been awarded as best adaption of Clearvale in Education sector by BroadVision Inc US. This was a worldwide event and some of the best names in
the Industry participated for this.

What is Virtual Campus


Virtual Campus by BroadVision, which has been successfully implemented at PTES aims to create an online social community within the educational institute. Virtual Campus is an online cloud based application that provides Social networking facilities within a campus which is extensively used for all academic activities such as content sharing, Blogs, Forum discussions, Events, tasks etc. This helps them to collaborate better and also save time for both students and faculty members and being cloud based, It can be accessed anywhere and this will also minimize IT hardware overheads.

The Objectives
BroadVision, through Virtual Campus aims to revolutionize the way knowledge flows and enhance the performance of everyone across and beyond the entire education system. To achieve Global connectivity to stay updated had become need of the hour. Objective is to provide a platform where students can have a lively interaction and collaboration with the faculty members, internal and external mentors. In todays vast ocean of information flow, the ability to share efficiently has now become vital to every individual. With Virtual Campus, it is aimed to achieve knowledge and information sharing swiftly and efficiently and to collaborate, learn and socialize. Implementation of an IT system that can be introduced to the existing education system which would enhance the quality of education but with minimized IT overheads
To make students more employable by enhancing their knowledge base by having them communicate with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, corporate mentors, external mentors and others via eMentorship

Task management, file management, Activity management is a great hassle if done through offline methods thus impacting efficiency and performance. Objective is to have an integrated system that caters to all the basic needs of an Educational Institute. Bringing in eco-friendliness within processes of the education system. Move towards minimized paper consumption by having the students, faculty members, mentors, administrative staff and non-administrative staff perform their activities on computer more efficiently and without maximizing the IT Infrastructure overheads These key objectives has encouraged BroadVision to implement Virtual Campus and aims to resolve the issues faced but students and faculty members at PTeS

1. Virtual Campus being implemented using cloud based technology, offer seamless connectivity amongst students, Faculty, members of the Incubation Center or Mentors. Information can be shared in an organized way and accessible to all the community members instantly. 2. Communities within the Virtual Campus help the student and faculty assess and learn with sharing information in a much more efficient and effective method. Wide variety of information can be shared using various methods such as Forums, Blogs, Polls, Files sharing, Audio/Video sharing.

3. Students stay updated constantly with information and updates share by the Mentors, Industry Experts and Corporate Mentors to have the students up-to-date with the happenings in the industry and all the buzzing news and identify their scope for career. By having the students get directly in touch with Industry people on Clearvale has made the students more employable as soon as they graduate.

What is PeopleTree Education Society?


PeopleTree Education Society Registered as Charitable Trust to serve in the field of higher education was established in the year 2007. They offer 2 Courses currently Bachelor of Computer Applications and Bachelor of Business Administration affiliated to Rani Chennamma University and Recognized of Govt. of Karnataka. They are an Education Society are open for new and Liberal Ideas and technology in the Practice of Education with a vibrant and committed Faculty and Administrative Staff. They also house an effective idea incubation center called PTIC (PeopleTree Incubation Center). This provides great opportunity to students and us to incubate new and innovative ideas that can make a substantial impact on todays technology. They provide this platform for the students to ideate and experiment on new technology fronts and gain knowledge through PTIC.

Only Clearvale has the feature to create separate social networks for each of these groups, but manage them together, creating a social enterprise ecosystem. Clearvale and PTeS


In the last decade, the Internet has changed how teachers and students learn in the classroom. Companies like Google, Wikipedia, and WordPress have opened the door to instant exploration of subjects and questions that havent been available in the classroom before. Students are now able to explore new technologies using the internet, see updated facts and information on a wiki, or read a famous explorers blog posts on their expeditions, all safely from their desks. Classrooms, schools and even higher education institutes are able to share and collaborate in private social networks, expanding collective knowledge and relationships to new horizons. With interaction from Technology firms, students gain knowledge about the latest trends and get opportunity to explore with new technology and share the same with their peers. Such private social network has allowed education to expand past local resources, and draw from a vast library of knowledge that organizations and businesses are actively contributing to everyday. Clearvale Express is one such Enterprise Social Networking platform which is extensively used at PeopleTree Education Society since March 2011. Clearvale Express is called as PTeS Virtual Campus. To save IT hardware costs they have integrated it with Google Applications for Education. They are the only Undergraduate College possibly in South of India to have a private enterprise network for an Undergraduate Educational Institution. People Tree Education Society (PTES) has also been awarded as best adaption of Clearvale in Education sector by BroadVision Inc US. This was a worldwide event and
some of the best names in the Industry participated for this.

How it helps?
Connectivity The most important thing that Clearvale provided them with is connectivity amongst all the students of their college and employees of the incubation centre. For instance, if there was something urgent to be communicated after the college hours, then they would update the information on Clearvale which is accessible by all the students and employees and most of them always active on this network. This enhanced reachability and eradicated any hassle in communicating and reaching anyone, anytime. Information Sharing Many times, certain information that needs to be shared with the students by the faculty members, faculty members share the same on Clearvale during this class, by uploading the documents on Clearvale and these are instantly accessible by all the members (Students). This resulted in hassle-free information sharing. Nothing was missed and hence their accessibility to information and knowledge increased. It is easier than the regular way of sharing files or documents by email thus saving a lot of time. Communities They have more than 20 Communities on Virtual Campus which cater to different interests of students and staff members. Examples: PTES BBA - this community shares information between students of Bachelor of Business Administration course. They upload blogs, pictures, videos, share documents, share PowerPoint files, keep polls on news, etc. Sports Community - this community shares pictures and information of students taking part in various sports activities at college level and University level. Pictures of students who have won prizes in different sports tournaments Blogs Blogging gives the user a platform to express their individual thoughts and influences. The blogs added were not always copied from news channels or information from the internet which was found useful to share, but mostly about the students understanding, view points and others. This helped students exchange ideas, understanding and discuss on a subject / matter / topic / event. There were certain blogs which were added by the users which shared useful information.

Types of Users in Clearvale


Following are the type of Users currently used in Virtual Campus portal: 1. Owner has complete control over a network. The owner may transfer ownership to another member. Only the owner may disable a network. 2. Administrators have full management control over a network. They can manage users, change all network administrative settings, and moderate content. Administrators can assign roles to members but cannot make other member Owners. 3. Moderators are members who do not manage the network settings or members. Moderators may access and edit all content in the network and regulate which content appears in network or community widgets. Moderators can also view and receive notifications of reported content. (This role is specific to Clearvale Enterprise.) 4. Writers can create and modify content such as forum topics, files, blogs, and so on to which they have access permissions. 5. Readers are view-only members and cannot create any content. Readers can subscribe to notifications and send messages to other members. (This role is specific to Clearvale Enterprise.)

Customization of the My Page can be done, by using the Edit Layout option, where the user can introduce widgets to his/her page by dragging and dropping them to the placeholders. This is a typical screen that shows how a community page at PTES would be. All the students, faculty members and mentors of BCA department are part of this community

Task Management
This screen shows us, how a faculty member assigns tasks / assignments to a student or group of students and share relevant information and files which would help them in the assignment
Faculty creates a new task by clicking on New Task Faculty mentions the assignment title & Due date for submission

Describes about the assignment and gives all the other relevant information needed

Adds Assignees to the assignment. Assignees can be added to selected assignees or to an entire group, whichever needed Relevant files that are needed for the assignment are shared along this task, which can be downloaded by all the assignees On Click, of Save, Assignment is assigned and the assignees see this task assigned to them on their page as an Action Item

Uploading a File
Below screen shows how a file/document can be uploaded and can be shared with selected member(s), selected communities, or to the entire network (All members) and we can also define if it can be edited or if it should be in View Only mode

Event Management
PTES has been using several features of Clearvale (Virtual Campus) such as communities, blogs, wikis, pools, file management, task management features to manage and execute the events.

There are many in-house and external events being conducted. For every event, a community is created and members involved in the event join this community to connect and communicate with each other

Message board used to post messages and have a group interaction, to have all on the same page. Ideation can be done using the message board

Knowledge sharing can be done using blogs and wikis. Industry experts, corporate mentors write periodic blogs and wikis to help the students get a practical approach of their learning and give them knowledge and scope of the upcoming technologies and subjects that are buzzing in the industry, thereby making the students more employable as soon as the graduate

On Clearvale (Virtual Campus), we have a community named People Tree Incubation Center which is joined by the many industry leaders, entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship development mentors and faculty members and the students interested in these activities.

There are several features of Clearvale that create an environment of a Virtual Notice Board Freeforms These can be used to display notices as we display in a notice board, these can also be used to introduce external feeds such as (RSS feeds, News feeds, Twitter Feeds etc) Event Calendars listing all the events to be conducted in the near future and also displays a countdown so that everyone is updated about the happenings in the Institute Todays Special: Suggested Reading Articles Educators, Administrators can share content and suggest reading of these on the network page, so that all the students get access to the information that are strongly recommended by the educators or administrators Thought for the day: There is motivation thought that is shared everyday with all the members to increase their morale and confidence towards their career Twitter Feeds from Corporate Leaders: Keep track of the corporate leaders and mentors who regularly tweet to share buzzing information of their respective industry

Alumni, Students and Faculty Interaction Platform This solution has enabled alumni who are pursuing their career working with different companies to connect with students and educational faculty. This has given them a platform to exchange ideas and thoughts. Alumni share their corporate working experience and give guidance to the students to prepare themselves for entering the corporate world. This are also able to give virtual seminars by allowing them to post their videos and share blogs with the students on buzzing topics in the industry, seeking students to learn more and keep themselves updated. Students post comments asking queries and questions and alumni respond to their queries. Alumni also share information about opportunities for internship in the companies that they are working with currently and also share information about any openings in their organization. Ideation and Idea Sourcing Activities


This is proven to be an online engagement platform and crowd-sourcing platform for ideation and identifying feasible and implementable ideas and turning those ideas into community projects. Students, External and Corporate Mentors, Alumni, Faculty members and other guest educators are part of this community and involve themselves throughout the conceptualization stage and guide students on continual basis to help them carry out several community project Students come together virtually on this community and discuss all the aspects of the project they would be working on and periodically share updates on the progress of the project to one another. They also post suggestions, questions and feedback to one another to churn out the project in a best way. These activities have made corporate houses recognize the capabilities in the students and they have identified students and given them opportunity for internship and employment in their organizations as the corporate leaders are actively on these communities and keep a track of the updates.

Readers Club
As Virtual Campus Clearvale being a cloud based solution has enabled document management in a most effective way. PTES has been using this feature to give students a platform to get access to all the e-study material and digital books by sharing the document format files and video format files with the community. This is turned out to be a digital library for the students. Students are now able to access the e-books, e-study materials, anytime from anywhere. This has therefore enabled the students to carry all their study material virtually where they go.
