Notice of Commencement & Public Information Centre

The City of London is conducting a study to identify the preferred method(s) for managing the impacts associated with raw wastewater discharges to the Thames River as a result of sewer system overflows during wet weather events.

Project Background and Purpose

Raw wastewater can be discharged to the environment when sewer systems are overwhelmed by storm water during wet weather events. Under extreme conditions, sanitary sewage mixed with storm water can discharge directly into local waterways instead of going to a nearby wastewater treatment plant. The City recently completed a program to identify and document where raw wastewater discharges may occur within the City sewer system. Through the development of a Pollution Prevention and Control Plan (PPCP), the City of London will develop strategies to mitigate the impacts of these discharges. This PPCP will follow Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process.

Public Information Centre

In order to provide further information on the Class EA process, background information on the study, potential solutions to address the problem, and to receive input from interested persons, the City will be holding a Public Information Centre (PIC) as follows: Date: Time: Location: Wednesday, October 3, 2012 Open House from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. City Hall Committee Room #1 300 Dufferin Avenue London, ON
