Axalan CRS-4 The DRRM was one of the most informative seminars I have attended, not only did it explain about the different kinds of disasters and hazards but also how to re act to them. Looking at the hazard maps provided for us I can see that my place, Quezon City, is an area which is considered of having low hazard risks making m e very thankful but that doesn t mean I should stay lax for I must take precautions just in case the unexpected happens. Emergency hotline numbers should be near ou r phone, being up to date with storm signal warnings, having emergency food, wat er and battery supplies for flashlights are just some of the precautions my fami ly can do to be prepared for any disasters. I have also learned basic first aid in this seminar like how to care for broken bones with wood and cloth or how to make an improvised stretcher to transfer the wounded in a safer place, I could t each these basic first aids to my family so that they may also know what to do w hen such skills are needed. Knowing about these preparedness acts and teaching t hem to the people around us makes our community better informed about ways to ov ercome disasters and avoid things that could risk their lives and well being. Kn owing when to be cautious about your surrounding and impending disasters wouldn t be a problem though for according to RA 10121 that people have the right to be pub licly informed about foreseen hazards, if you want to know more about first aid there are institutes that teach basic training to be prepared for disasters whic h are approved by the National Council meaning that all volunteers that help and act in disasters are all well trained and knows what they are doing. The PCVA exercise was done by us as one group. We talked about our homes and wha t common hazards often affect us making us more well informed about various plac es in our country for all of us live in different cities. After doing the PCVA a ctivity with my group helped me know what my communities weakness and strength i s and how to usefully use those strengths, we are now more informed about what s teps we should take to lessen or better yet to get rid of the impending hazards and problems that are already seen in our communities. In my community, Quezon C ity, the most common hazard to happen is flood. Floods here in my community aren t t hat frequent for we live in a high grounded place but it is the most frequent ha zard to happen here so the people already got used to it and are prepared for it even if it s just mild showers of rain but the one thing that would always tire peo ple out when there is flood is the traffic and the many ongoing road constructio ns in Quezon City is not helping. When I talked about the problems on the road m y community is facing my group advised for me to inform the local officials that their road constructions are taking a while because it even surpasses the norma l time a road construction is done. I am only a student though so I don t know how s eriously the officials will take my complain so I will also know all the alterna te routes there are to my house so that when a flood does happen I will avoid th e roads that are frequently used by commuters and people with cars so that I may not get stuck in a traffic jam and spend 3 hours on the road when it only takes me 10-30 minutes regularly from UST to my house. Disaster risk managements should be discussed to the people all the time so that they may be prepared for when a disaster does happen and so that people who kno w first aid and various precautions for any disaster may be known to all househo lds decreasing the life risks of these people giving the volunteers for when dis asters happen less people to worry about so that they may focus on those who are unfortunately seriously wounded. Everyone should be aware of disaster risk mana gements and should attend DRRM seminars because whether we are rich or poor we a re all at risk whenever unpredicted disasters and foreseen hazards happen.
