Cameron Art Museum Participates in Smithsonian Magazines 8th Annual Museum Day Live! Saturday, September 29, 2012 10am to 5pm
Wilmington, NC For the second year Cameron Art Museum is participating in Smithsonian Magazines 8 Annual Museum Day Live! Visit the Smithsonian Magazine website www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/venues/Cameron_Art_Museum.html to download a ticket for free admission for two people. You must print the ticket and bring it with you to the museum to qualify for free admission. NOTE: Only two people per household will qualify at this rate. Come enjoy the new exhibitions from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. In the Hughes Wing the exhibition features recreations of 3 local artists workplaces that you are able to actually walk through and experience what it was like for the 3 artists, Minnie Evans, Elisabeth Chant and Claude Howell in From Gatehouse to Winehouse: Inside the Artists Workplace Minnie Evans, Elisabeth Chant and Claude Howell. The exhibition The Transformative Power of Friendship, 3 Collectors | 3 Friends | 3 Gifts narrates the philanthropy of gifting collections to a museum. The exhibition demonstrates the history of major gifts made to the St. Johns Museum of Art (which later became the Cameron Art Museum). One collection is the work of Mary Cassatt, another is the museums collection of Japanese woodblock prints by Edo period artists Hiroshige and Kunisada and also selections from a promised gift by Louis de th K. Belden whose collection focuses on prints from 20 century artists. The day includes family art activities from noon to 3:00 pm, a reception hosted by the Museum School from 10:00 am 2:00 pm which includes a display of artwork by students who participated in Youth Classes and Summer Camp at the CAM. Also from 10:00 am 2:00 pm Raku Firing at the Clay Studio at the Pancoe Art Education Center, at 3:00 pm a lecture by Rwandan artist Innocent Nkurunziza, held in collaboration with Campus Life Arts and Programs, UNCW. Also enjoy the Civil War trail and sculpture park, including the communitys newly planted whirligig Caroline. CafJohnnie is open 10:00 am 3:00 pm for lunch.
The Cameron Art Museum presents 6-8 changing exhibitions annually; ongoing family and children's programs; a unique program of tours for Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers; The Museum School classes for adult and youth education; interdisciplinary programs (lectures, music, films, literature, dance); Healthy Living Classes and ongoing workshops and classes in ceramics at the Clay Studio with resident master artist Hiroshi Sueyoshi. The Cameron Art Museum also features its caf, CafJohnnie. Cameron Art Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
