Lee 4 Ann Lee Mr. Steigner Genre Literature Block B May 21, 2012 I Have A Dream Young children are asked about their dream jobs every day, and they persistently respond with excited tones, though their ideas are always changing. Fervent parents urge their children to dream big! and become whatever you want to be. Growing up, my dream job has altered quite drastically, and for a while, unfortunately, I had no dream, or even a minute thought meandering through my mind. Entering High School, fantasies of the future grasped me once again, spurring my long lost interest in what the future holds. Currently, my dream job is to become an orthodontist; put simply, a specialized dentist that works explicitly at fixing crooked teeth. An orthodontist is a type of dentist that uses braces, retainers, and other devices

(Kids Health- Orthodontist 1). Orthodontists specialize differently from dentists, who treat diseases and extractions of teeth. The main job for orthodontists is to help attain flawless teeth. Not only does straight teeth boost self-confidence, but it can also prevent disease. It is said that straight teeth help children become more confident and assured about their appearance. Straight teeth can also prevent bullying and taunting, which may influence children when they are older (Orthodontics 1). Many visit the orthodontist to attain pristine teeth. Lee 5 become an orthodontist, students need to complete four years of dental school. Coursework in dental school includes anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and other studies that relate more specifically to orthodontics (Career Profile 1). Significant knowledge in the science and math departments will suffice in the path of becoming an Orthodontist. Lots of skill and persistence is needed to follow up well with the new material. An Orthodontist needs incredible skill, knowledge and abilities in the work field. Knowledge such as medicine, dentistry, and biology are needed to succeed well in strict Medical Schools. Skills including reading comprehension, coordination, time management, and active learning will benefit individuals to become a better worker. Lastly, some abilities are particularly critical, including problem sensitivity, oral comprehension, and finger dexterity for the many tools Orthodontists may be required to use (Career Profile 1). It is said that attending a Medical School, in which Orthodontics fall under, is quite difficult. With a heavy load of work piled up on the students shoulders every day and the many factual information to memorize, I believe it is the optimism, and the vehemence and fervor for the subject that will drive me through the strenuous years of studying. As the famous Korean proverb says, Hard work will never betray you, I believe with an undeviating mindset and plenty of exertion into my work, I will be able to achieve my dream goal. Different jobs suit people with distinctive personalities. Character can affect how one performs at different jobs. There are those who are talented with working with young children, while others would prefer teaching college-level students. Another example would be people preferring to help save lives as a surgeon, than being a botanist studying

Lee 6 purple lilac flowers. I was able to take a quiz, which simply put down my personality and character into words. According to Ross Reinhold, the Myer Briggs Indicator is a system for understanding the dynamics of personal growth and personality development (Reinhold 1). The Myer Briggs Indicator, created by Isabel Briggs Meyers and Katherine Briggs, in my opinion, has successfully labeled my personality well. The authors stated advantages and disadvantages of having my personality. Dr. David Keirsey referred to people with similar personalities as me as the Masterminds. According to Dr. David Keirsey, Masterminds never set off on their current project without a plan, and are efficient at planning. Masterminds never set off on their current project without a Plan A firmly in mind, but they are always prepared to switch to Plan B or C or D if need be (Keirsey 1). Referring back to my dream job, this could be a crucial, important factor for me. Since I have a habit of organizing my papers and work place quite frequently, my finding satisfaction when everything is in place could benefit my future. Its a good idea to leave the house with a plan set in mind: to organize both the days schedules and thoughts. But whats more important is the willingness to switch from Plan A to Plan B. If something unexpected occurs while working towards becoming an orthodontist, there will always be an exit: another door leading towards the road. According to Tom Stoppard, Every exit is an entrance to somewhere else. Similar to the character analysis above, according to Marina Heiss, Masterminds are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest (Heiss 1). Although being a perfectionist all the time can be a tedious and heavy at times, I believe its benefits outweigh its negatives. Mistakes, especially to those in the scientist departments, are not easily forgotten or forgiven. Orthodontists need

Lee 7 to pay special attention to their work, making everything mistake-less. Since orthodontists work on other people, not only do mistakes hurt their own reputation, but also it may hurt, even physically, others if a slip is made in the process. I do not believe being a perfectionist is a waste of time; I strongly think perfectionists merely want to have everything organized and the best as they can make it become. According to Marina Heiss, Masterminds tend to be characterized by their robustness, stability, and good communications (Heiss 1). One major factor in becoming an orthodontist would be having good relationships with both the other co-workers and more importantly, the patients. Good communication with these people would help ones reputation thrive. Also, robustness and stability is important. Stamina is required in order to survive the intransigent consecutive years of study, from college and into Medical school. I want to become a respected, independent person whom everyone can look up to. That is something that will give me warmth and satisfaction, knowing what an impact I am doing in other peoples lives. With these particular personality traits, I believe I will be able to suit my dream job well in the future. Constantly planning ahead, instead of being a disorganized student with lost papers and incessantly forgetting important test dates, will help me become a more independent in organizing my own schedule and work. Being a perfectionist, mistakes are always avoided as much as possible, and I will always be giving more effort than one hundred percent. Lastly, having a robust personality and good communication skills will eventually help me in the long run when venturing out to become an orthodontist, helping many people during along the path to my dream. Goals are important to have, to reach for to help one strive towards their ultimate

Lee 8 dream. Whether it is a small one, or a long-term one, goals are meant to give one a little bit of motivation every day. Some of my short-term goals would be to do well in school, especially the exams, which are coming up in a few weeks, and to be able to excel in extracurricular activities. My long-term goals are interlocked with my future and my dream job. I have several broader goals that I keep in my head, to prompt me and push myself forward when I tumble over obstacles. A goal that I have is to become an orthodontist at a well-known hospital in America, Singapore or Korea. Since the three states countries are the countries I have lived in, I feel a sense of home towards all of them. I can describe as almost a sense of loyalty to my people. If I were able to make the world a better place, I would want to start from my home. In this case, I want to start working in an environment that I am comfortable in. Thus, my goal is to be able to take my occupation and help the people from those countries. Another goal that I have is to earn money to give to my family members, particularly my parents. Although this is not one of the major goals that I have, I believe its my responsibility to reimburse for the money my parents have spent for my schooling fee. I have been attending an international school for my entire life, and quite frankly, they are spending lots of money for me to obtain good education. I want to use that my education to repay my parents back. Although this is a subsidiary goal, it is one that I will strive for. The last goal that I have is to help people improve their self-confidence. I dont want young children to go through the stress that I had when I was young. When I was younger, I had crooked teeth, and it would frequently embarrass me when asked to smile

Lee 9 big for the camera! I want to help both children and adults to not be mortified by their own appearance, when there is something that I can do to fix it. Fixing teeth can be a small improvement in someones life, but making that little improvement can make me satisfied. These three goals, to work in one of my home countries, to earn money, and to help others become self-confident, will help me strive towards what I want to be, an orthodontist. When I was young, I was asked about my dream job every day, and I would persistently respond back in a hushed whisper, something successful! I have finally taken that broad idea and have carved out a new dream. Although this is only what I hope to become in the future, I will try my best to achieve it, because dreams are worth living for.

Two of the biggest, still raging conflagrations are in Idaho's expansive Salmon-Challis National Forest, one of several places -- along with most of the rest of the Gem State as well as parts of Oregon, Utah and Montana -- where the National Weather Service issued red flag warnings through at least Sunday night.
