How To Bring People Closer To God

GOD calls you to be a fisher of man. Seriously! You. Not just preachers, priests, pastors but YOU! Thats what Jesus said in Matthew 4:19. God wants YOU to bring people closer to Him. But what kind of fishing did he have in mind? You see, there are two kinds of fishing styles today. First, theres the bearded guy sitting on a wooden chair, with a tackle box by his side, a can of beer in one hand, and a fishing pole in the other. Second, theres a group of rugged men in a boat, casting their net, and later pulling it for a catch. Answer: Jesus was referring to the second picture, because that was what happened around the place where he lived. Burly men working together would hoist a heavy circular net with weights tied around its edgeseither from the shore or from a boat. My point? Impacting others, influencing others, and evangelizing others was a community affair. No Rambo Christians working alone. Why? Jesus said, By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:35) A group of friends that love each other in their imperfect way is the best way to bring people closer to God. Its the only thing that will make this world a better place. Are you a disciple of Jesus? Have you made one? Lets define some terms: A disciple is... one who sits at the feet of another to learn from him and become like him The goal of making disciples is to bring people into a relationship with the Lord through friendship. Through this, people become friends with HIMthey sit at His feet, listen to His voice, grow to know Him intimately, and become like Him. A disciple of Jesus... loves Him with ALL of his heart, mind, soul and strength A disciples prayer is: Lord, I am available for Youanytime, anywhere! For him, Jesus is not just in the periphery of his life; his life revolves around Him! He is a friend of Jesus, and he helps others become His friends too. Disciple-making is... the strategic, intentional impartation of Gods Word into another person through personal involvement/ relationship and friendship We will use Jesus strategy--Friendship. Lets not busy ourselves trying to

build the church. Jesus said He will build the church His Church. MATTHEW 16:18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. But Hes telling you (us) to make disciples (Matthew 28:19). How do you plant a forest? You dont. You plant one tree at a time. Those trees then reproduce other trees and a forest develops. Our part in the church building is to make disciples that also produce disciples. Create disciples by loving God and othersthey cannot be massproduced.
