POC notes CASTS temporary treatment modality for fractures - Types: plaster of paris and fiberglass - Location: always

above the fracture site BRACES - mechanical way of immobilization (ex: in scoliosis; braces are used not to treat but prevent further progression of the lateral curvature of the spine MOLDS - Wadding sheet, plaster of paris, wadding sheet - Purpose: for compound fractures with swelling, open wound or infection (IOS) TYPES:CAST 1. Collar cast - For cervical Spine affectations 5. Shoulder spica cast - For shoulder joint and upper portion of the humerus fractures

6. Short arm circular cast - For fractures of the wrist, carpals and metacarpals

7. Long arm circular cast - For radius, ulna affectations

8. Hanging cast - For shaft of the humerus

2. Body cast (tube) - For thoraco-lumbar Spine affectations

CASTS with oblique cuts indicates callous formation to be able to facilitate joint movement

3. Minerva cast - Combination of collar and body cast for cervical, thoracolumbar affectations

9. Munnster/Fuenster - for fracture of radius, ulna with callous formation

4. Rizzers jacket cast - For scoliosis and CTL affectations

10. Functional - for shaft of humerus with callous formation

LOWER EXTREMITIES 11. Short leg circular cast - for fracture of ankle, tarsals and metatarsals 16. Frog cast - for congenital hip displacia

12. Long leg circular cast - for fracture of tibia, fibula

17. PTB or patellar tendon bearing cast (with oblique cut and heel)- for fractured proximal 3rd of tibia and fibula with callous formation

13. Cylinder Cast - for fractured patella (left leg in the picture)

18. Delvit - for fractured distal 3rd of tibia, fibula with callous formation

14. Pantalon Cast - for fractured pelvis 19. Quadri-lateral ischial bearing cast - for shaft of femur with callous formation

15. Hip spica cast - for hip and femur affectations

Single spica cast 20. Brace cast - distal 3rd of femur and proximal 3rd of tibia, fibula during callous formation

1 spica cast

Double spica cast

21. Basket cast - massive knee injury, compound knee injury, facilitates wound dressing

TYPES: MOLDS 22. Short arm circular mold - For fractures of the wrist, carpals and metacarpals with IOS (right arm in the picture) 28. Hip spica mold - hip and femur affectations with IOS

23. Long arm circular mold - For radius, ulna affectations with IOS

24. Sugar tong mold - for shaft of humerus with IOS

25. Short leg circular mold - for fracture of ankle, tarsals and metatarsals with IOS
